FF:Crystal Chronicles and Metroid ZM

But what you are describing would require a lot of extra development work, wouldn't it?

To use the earlier analogy (of course, slightly flawed as all analogies are) GTA could have an extra option to make the game suitable for 5 year olds. It doens't, but nobody minds.

As for GTA - if you made a version for 5 year olds, then you'd have nothing left. With GTA, you really are ripping the guts out of the game. If you can't shoot people, run people over etc.. there is no game.

I don't believe CC would suffer the same loss. I agree, it wouldn't be as good a game, but I still don't believe it would be worthless - do you think it would be? This is the crux of the matter for me. It appears that many people think that without hiding the information, the game is worthless. In my eyes, this doesn't say much for the game anyway. It's only good because you have to communicate? I can't believe the gameplay itself can be quite so shallow.

As for extra development? It would involve more, of course. However, the increased sales would probably make up for it I'd imagine (and more besides).

It is difficult though, because there's nothing like this available out there.

One example I can think of is some American football game on the Dreamcast where you could pick your plays on the VMU so that the other player couldn't see what you were up to. A great idea, that worked well, and was only possible because of the VMUs. However, American Football games still work perfectly well without these features.

There, you happy now?

Yes, but you don't have to talk, because the information is on the screen already, anyone else can already see full well what health you have, what items you need, etc, etc.

Do you not see the difference?

But you do have to talk. You have to organise, it is essential. You have to know what other people think.

I know what you're saying, but I'm saying that whether or not communication is technicall essential or not, it'll still happen freely and people will enjoy themselves.

So wether it's technically required or not it'll still happen. Surely the fact that it happens is the only thing that matters?

Surely that's beside the point. I'd probably crack open a beer when I sit down to play something over the weekend, because I'd enjoy it, but the fact that I will doesn't mean it's essential to progression or anything.

I don't know until I've played the game. It's easy to see that a game like Pacman Vs. wouldn't work without the GBA linkup but more difficult for a game like this.

I think the point is that I don't care. I'd rather the developers concentrated on attempting something new with the GBA linkup (if they are making a game based around it) than compromising trying to please everybody.

I agree with Pug here, there had to be a far more practical way of creating a 4 player FF game. I'm not saying the GBA-GC connectivity isnt genius, i've dabbled with a bit of co-op and it was superb.

I just cant help thinking so many people are gonna miss out on this because of the complexity of the set-up and its shame. People will dismiss it as multi-player only, which it isnt, the solo game is beautiful and i'm looking forward to going through the US version after already finishing the JAP one.

There is just no way I could convince my brother/mother/best mate/girlfriend to buy a GBA just to play some co-op with me, simple as that. Those of you that do have that luxury, you lucky bastards

With all due respect, that example is rubbish

Yes, but no other way of creating a commicative game with individual information.

And yes, I agree its a shame that so few people will be able to play it properly, but I'd rather it was that way than just being a clone of a an already existing game using already existing ideas.

And hey, what do people think of my Advance Wars Fog of War co-op idea? Wouldn't it be great for GBA-linkup?! You could fire off artilery into random places on the map, and your co-op partner (who might be closer and have a different view) could tell you how close you are through the GBA screen without the other players noticing.

Actually, I demand that Nintendo get to work on such a thing immediately!!

Well, I don't know about any body else, but its time this thread died. :D

For anyone that hasn't played this game: the GBA element is essential to what makes this game what it is. It really is, I'm not just saying this. Why would Square-Enix put in something that limits the number of people who can play this game if it wasn't? They won't make any extra money from GBAs sold, so its not that. If they could make a fourplayer game that required the least expenditure from the purchaser, surely that would increase the sales of the game? As this feature has been included, at some risk (and reading this thread it seems that alot of you guys aren't going to get this game) so it must be kinda essential.

And trust me, it really is. This is a wonderous game, simply stunning; the GBA element elevates it above the rank and file to something that I don't want to stop playing.

Don't worry - there's another thread where people are moaning about FFCC as well. As I point out there, never has so much shit been talked about a game people have never played.

.::: Well normally I'd care but in this case, it's entirely their loss. We're already planning multiplayer-nights over here for the English version. <_< And consequently we're already discussing 'jobs'.

Seems I'll become the 'white mage' of the bunch as I actually care about healing people in time.

Fucking hell. No one hates it, they're just disappointed they won't be able to get the most out of it, therefore aren't going to bother buying it!

No, they all want it to be something it isn't: A multiplayer game that doesn't require GBAs. I.e. they want a different game. Stupid really when you think about it.

Just a smidgen. Ah well, c'est la vie. :P

We'll just have to enjoy it ourselves then; fuck everyone else.

I do not hate FF:CC. Like I said on the other thread, I've got FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FF Tactics Advance, I will almost certainly be getting FFX-2 and I have FFXI arriving by Fed Ex today. As you can see I'm a bit of a fan. I also love my Gamecube and the great first and second party games on it. So you would figure FF nut + plus GC version = must buy. But unfortunately it doesn't.

Fair enough. Your loss though.

I was especially looking forward to the Moogles and the FFIX style characters (I think I enjoyed FFIX the most of all the series so far - great story well told with fantastic humour and a brilliant final duo of bosses to beat with seriously fantastic backing music).

My loss I know. Maybe I'll get it in a few months time second hand.

Someone mentioned playing it with their girlfriend. I have a question. My girlfrend isn't a huge gamer but she likes them. Would she be OK playing this game? It doesn't get bogged down in stats and crap? Would she be better off using the pad or a GBA controller? Does it make a difference which controller you use? Thanks.

My girlfriend and I have played it for about 6 hours total so far. She's a bit of a gamer, for example she's playing Luigi's Mansion while I write this. To be honest there are not a lot of stats, most of the stats come through buying weapons. If you play it multiplayer you can basically tell her what to do in the more complicated bits. Its a very simple RPG though really.

Honestly, its quite a simple game really, but needs a bit of teamwork. In boss fights you definitely need teamwork, which usually comes down to, you attack it, I'll make sure we stay alive (i.e. cures and life spells).

Oh and she'll have to use a GBA if you want to play multiplayer, or a controller if you're single player.
