I remember The Hangover Part II having some laughs in a “how can the same shit happen to the same guys twice” sort of way. But The Hangover Part III was unforgivable.

I’ve never seen anything from the Scary Movie franchise.

Ah well, perhaps Chernobyl (aka the best TV show in years) was a fluke.

Although, he could have plotted the Book of Boba Fett, and I’d still trust his vision for this over anyone moaning about fucking spores v tendrils.

Couldn't really care less either way re. spores but it does seem like an unnecessary decision if it's mainly from a 'our stars can't wear a mask all the time' POV. In my recollection, Joel spends the minority of the action sequences in a mask anyway, let alone the game as a whole. The spores only occupied specific areas of levels and most of the time exploring and fighting was spent unobscured. It seems like a slight missed opportunity if there are none at all; having the characters navigate through some of the cramped underground spaces that the game filled with spores would surely give them a bunch of tense, claustrophobic scenes practically for free.

Spores will stick to skin and clothes, and you will breathe them in long after you have passed through the areas where they're prevalent. The only way way spores would realistically work in the show is if you have the characters fully hazmat suiting up and then showering off in a decontamiion chamber after it. Not gonna happen.

It's a completely sensible change.

Do you make YouTube videos? Seriously though, superman spun the world around in order to turn back time and people didn’t complain about that. It’s still a beloved movie. I’m sure there are still going to be things that aren’t realistic in this tv series. The world has ended exactly because spores are so lethal.

why do you care so much about spores?

Tendrils? Like tentacles? That does sound curious (like, what are they attached to?), but I have every confidence this is going to be amazing regardless of what changes had to be made to suit the format.

Spores are scarier, but they are a very pre-covid decision. If they keep spores, they'll get endless, tedious, correct chat about how 'they would all be infected by now' especially from non-game players, who since the game have lived through a contagious pandemic, and if they get rid of them, then they'll get endless, tedious chat from gamers about how the tendrils are worse. I think they are right to distance themselves slightly from direct pandemic parallels - it's too close to people now.

And anyway as half the gamers are going to complain because they are all weirdos creeps who dislike that a Ellie isn't being played by a time-jumped, non-trans, Elliot Page, and are still processing their frustrations over Part 2's inevitable narrative conclusions, then I would change it to tendrils too.

Oh what? Shame but if anything that suggests they are taking their time and investing in this. I have this feeling that THIS is the one, this is the break-through moment for tv/film adaptations based on a game. That isn't just hugely popular but well acclaimed too.

You can quote me later on that

Look, I was right. Everyone always makes fun of me but I'm always right.

Apparently, tendrils was supposed to play a part in the game

Spores AND tendrils, now that's something that would be terrifying.

In an interview with Collider, The Last of Us Showrunners said they altered the Cordyceps infection spreading from spores to tendrils to make the show more realistic.

Our zombie show isn't realistic enough

The other point about a zombie film or tv series is that they very rarely care what caused it, it is mostly irrelevant and a basic macguffin to make the plot work. There are exceptions and I am sure the ultra fans of the game will say how different this is (it isnt) and the story depends on it (it doesnt) but all you need is "Zombies" caused by meteor/infection/spores/blood/Monkey rage/virus/anything bish bash bosh done.

Even if it is used in the plot it doesn't really matter what macguffin you want to employ.... Airborne? The Crazies .. You want it to spread without biting but near contact? Do it like 28 days later and make the blood highly infectious.

The actual mechanics of why the zombies/infected have become that way should be irrelevant to the story you want to tell. The classic Romero Zombie Trilogy doesn't even tell you why it happened it just did.

Am I reading this right, all the episodes will be released in America but here we have to watch it weekly on Sky?

Most reviews are for the entire series one so why aren't they releasing them all here.

Fuck that, will be hitting the high seas next week if that's the case.

No, it's weekly in the US too. It's made primarily for normal scheduled TV (HBO), not for a streaming service, though as with normal TV these days it will also be available to stream after it airs too.

Ahh, that's not quite so bad.

Strange that places are reviewing the whole series though, but risky giving access I would have thought and just a matter of time before it gets leaked surely.

Really hyped for this.

I know this is the Tv show chat but finally finished the first game yesterday having had it on PS3 and PS4. I know. My 16 yo daughter loves it. It’s her favourite game but she’s too scared to play it. She’s just watched people play it on YouTube. I know.  Just got the second game and she wants me to tell her whenever I play so she can watch!

The game is pretty much already a film. Started the second game today and whilst the relationship between Joel and Ellie is great in the first one, the opening scenes between Joel and Ellie in the second one are incredible. If they can capture that for the series it will be superb and it seems like they have cast Joel and Ellie perfectly.

Spores or tendrils? Who gives a fuck? It’s really not about that.
