The Last of Us: The Show!

I think that’s fair enough. The concept of a locked door sealing in an airborne virus works as a videogame mechanic, but wouldn’t stand up in a series.

Spores makes sense, and it’s super scary. I bet they changed it to prevent alienating anti-maskers.

Take your tinfoil hat off, Stevie. If it was spores, everyone would have to be masked up all the time (look at the height of the covid pandemic). Spores worked in the game, because its a game

Common man, it’s not like television is anymore real than games! :D

Seems like a global plague would be very easy to avoid if it was spread by tendrils, but what do I know.

What about the zombies?

Yeah it's surely just a creative decision (maybe Pedro Pascal didn't want to be in another show where he has to do the majority of his acting behind a mask), not them trying to make it more "realistic". How the virus spreads only needs to make enough sense that it's not distracting. It's the thing that drives the plot, it's not the focus.

Is this streaming anywhere in the UK?

Seeing it heavily advertised on Sky but I would like to just batter through it in a couple nights.

You can’t have every major action sequence taking place with the main cast always wearing masks. It’s a necessary change.

That didn't stop Nolan

There's probably 3 or 4 encounters in the game requiring masks so I don't see how it's that necessary.

Can't believe how much fuss is being made about the spores thing. Resetera got to nearly 1000 posts on the subject which is nuts.

In the scheme of things it is a complete and utter irrelevance that will make not a single iota of difference to how good the show will be.

Reviews for this are excellent, perhaps most notably even amongst critics who never played the game or play videogames period.

So much for the 'The Last of Us' story is only good by videogame standards' naysayers.

They could easily solve that by not wearing masks out in the open, but then putting them on in close quarters.

Or even better, just stay true to the game. I could easily live with a tv series that generated a million shitty “here’s why HBO’s TLOU are unrealistic” videos on YouTube made by the most insufferable people in the world.

Instead we might get oh no, tendrils crawled up my bum when I was a sleep ^_^

It’s good to see it’s getting positive reviews. I’m sure the reviews would be positive if they stayed true to the game.

That bit in the 70s Invasion of the Body Snatchers is proper creepy, though. I hope they're going for that vibe and not just having tendrils grab you like the woman from Superman III (although that was terrifying as well, come to think of it).

Trust Mazin.

I remember The Hangover Part II having some laughs in a “how can the same shit happen to the same guys twice” sort of way. But The Hangover Part III was unforgivable.

I’ve never seen anything from the Scary Movie franchise.
