The Last of Us: The Show!

Druckman has said there’s a plot outline for a third game, but given the disappointing sales of Part 2 I wonder if they’ve moved forward with it at all.

It’ll be weird if this show really takes off facilitating a green light on a new game, but covers the content well ahead of release. Game of Thrones territory.

Really? According to a quick Google, it was one of the 'best-selling PlayStation exclusive launches of all time', and has currently sold 10 million copies. I mean I realise that other big titles have sold a lot more, but it's a hardly a number to be sniffed at.

Others have covered how TLOU Part III wouldn't exactly be a financial risk. As for the show catching up with the game, yes I suppose a series of TV is always going to be quicker to produce than a big-budget videogame. Even considering that though, they have five years to cover between Part I and Part II. Then the events of Part II. They could do a bit of a time skip (presumably it won't be long before Bella Ramsay can convincingly play an adult Ellie, given she is literally an adult now) I suppose.

Assuming this show is a smash hit and ends up lasting the best part of a decade akin to Game of Thrones (which is a massive assumption) the earliest they could probably catch up with the events of Part II would be 2028 I think. Who's to say the show wouldn't go off in a completely different direction anyway, just using the first game as a jumping off point and then branch the plot off from there? Which I would be fine with personally, as long as they stay relatively close to the characterisations, themes and wordbuilding of the games.

I don't think whether Naughty Dog releases a sequel by 2028 (or ever) will be down to whether they think there's demand for it, in any case. It'll be down to what they feel motivated to work on, and what resources they're already throwing at other projects.

I was surprised like wtf is that, is that take… surely not… no it is! but then dur I don’t know why given pt 2.

So far, still unconvinced. The art direction doesn’t look right to me. The world doesn’t look fucked enough either. I want to be wrong absolutely mind. I want this to be great.

I'm just 100% in for this. I think it's going to be fantastic. It actually made me buy the on-sale-for-£50 insanity version for PS5 to play again ahead of the launch.

And whilst I originally felt Bella doesn't quite sit right for Part 1, I've just realised how beyond perfect she'll be for Part 2.

Admittedly, I've never seen Game of Thrones but I find it hard to believe that they'd miscast Ellie given she is the joint lead. And especially given that Druckman is heavily involved in the show and knows the characters inside out at this point. It just doesn't seem plausible that she would be cast unless she killed the auditions.

That didn’t feel like a great trailer to bring ina new audience. It felt aimed at TLOU fans and gamers.

Oh yeah, the use of Ah-Ha’s ‘take on me’ would just perplex/mildly amuse anyone not familiar with the games.

This was markedly better than the teaser, as Bella actually seems to have an accent now. I’m glad they’re not going the route of slavishly following the game’s plot but are, by the looks of it, taking TWD’s approach of hitting source material mileposts while introducing new characters/content.

To be fair, since I sent that tweet Pedro Pascal has rather cornered the market on homicidal surrogate father figures.

Obviously I assume he didn’t see my tweet but Twitter advanced search shows I’m the only person who ever tweeted that name at him or mention her alongside TLOU, and he replied/liked other tweets of mine around the same time. About inverted controls I think. So who knows. If she’s crap you can blame me.

Anyway, better get practicing Take On Me lassie! I wouldn’t bother with most of her other vids though, they seem to all be about Jesus...

Guys how am I doing this? First I cast Bella Ramsey by shouting at Craig Mazin on Twitter, and now he's lurking my Rllmuk posts for song choices.

Because the way the characters look is so ingrained in my mind,

How can they? In the otherworld of this thread, The Game Does Not Exist.
