Die of the Dead

Yeah I'm really happy! I feel like I'm spending a lot of time trying to get across on FB & KS is that the reason there aren't further deluxe stretch goals or components is because the game is already pretty damn deluxe, and any more components, or a change in components, would make either the game or shipping prohibitively expensive, but I'm really happy that people are so excited by it. Also I didn't think we'd hit 12,000 by today, which is properly amazing.

So many stretch goals are very obviously things that had already been scoped for, but have been inserted purely to create a sense of added value and drive whatever force stretch goals have on a campaign's success. I applaud your approach @therearerules, it's clear you've been very honest and transparent about the project, and I don't feel it's any less of a premium product just because it has fewer stretch goals.

Regarding the dice, we've been reading the comments, and we've received plenty of messages about them. Whilst playtesting Die of the Dead one of our focuses was always on the accessibility of the game, and essential components which only differ in colour are a prime weak point for this in any game. During playtesting we actually swapped out the green dice (from early prototypes) to yellow, when a playtester with colour blindness commented that was essential for making the game playable for them. Since then all playtesting has used these 5 dice, and we are confident that they provide the best opportunity for all players to access the game.

We do understand that some other colours or options could probably look more aesthetically pleasing (maybe either pastel, or marbled, or coloured pips), and have enjoyed reading people's thoughts on this matter- it shows a real excitement for the game that we want to encourage! However, any change in the dice colour at this stage would require us to be confident that it would be equally as accessible, which would cause a significant delay. Perhaps more importantly it would also mean going back to all backers to make them aware of this change, as this would be a significant change to the game which could cause some to no longer think they are able to play it.

So why not offer it as an alternative or expansion? That's simply because all our costings, for both the game and shipping, are based on one print run, and the same game for all backers, and it would be unfeasable to add in the option of an expansion at this stage in the campaign. That's not to say it's not something we might offer in the future, but not during this campaign. We hope everyone who sent us comments about the dice understands this, and please know we appreciated everyone of those comments, and if at some point we release an expansion we will definitely be including alternative dice sets in it!

Thanks, apologies for the lengthy post, we just thought it important to explain our reasoning.

@therearerules found this thread from your post on the "Start up" thread.

This looks a cool game but can I ask, what sort of age range would be suitable for?

I'm thinking it could be fun with the kids but they might be too young at 9 and 10.

Also would it be suitable for someone with little to no experience of board games other that the off the shelf stuff like Game of Life or kids monopoly.

Edit: just watched the Chit video on the KS page, think they might be a bit young for this one.

Having played boardgames with my daughter since she was 7 I would urge you to give it a try. Young kids can pick things up incredibly quickly often taking in rulesets that can appear complicated and confusing. Think about the Pokemon games and all of the little rules, tactics and tricks they need to know to play the game and they manage it easily.

Memory aspects in games often give the younger ones an advantage anyway, I can never remember where things are but the kids seem to and that helps them massively. The opportunity to sit them down and play together shouldn't be underestimated, do it now while they want to as in a few years that may well wear off.

@therearerules

Who are Gamefound? They've emailed me re. DotD, and say they're going to convert my KS pledge into Gamefound credits? Asking me to create a new account with password etc.

Never had that on any previous KS I've backed. Assume it's all above board? But why is it needed?

Gotcha.

Not necessarily that company, but the same general idea has become pretty much the default for games on Kickstarter. For the big stupid ones with 97,000 miniatures and 49 different tiers to back at it’s basically a requirement for keeping track of the different combinations of things that people want. And if they can cope with those, they can definitely help out with smaller projects too.

Super excited for it too, had a few KS arrive over the last couple weeks but this is the one I'm looking forward to most :D

Well done on the quick turnaround. Easily beating the estimated delivery date by a mile even if i dont get it for another few weeks! Kickstarter first for me I think!

Thanks! UK deliveries this week, as well as hopefully everything arriving in the EU. Crossed my fingers for a decent Dice Tower review- had this from DTPreviews though which is nice

It'd be really nice to have some momentum when we start selling to non KS backers. Only about 200 copies to sell, but we've got some ideas for a fun expansion, and anything which drives a reprint would help get that met.
