Finished this today. A fine slice of cheese indeed.  Held my attention throughout and a good first series.  Never read the books. I imagine their a quick easy read.

The books are very similar! Good fun but extremely dumb.

Hands like dinner plates. Punching a guy so hard you stop their heart and so forth

Yes…but he had a crowbar.

Given what he shrugs off in the books, a crowbar is nothing. Besides, in one of the books there’s at least fifty pages devoted to types of crowbar and how they’re made. His extensive knowledge of crowbars should have given him some sort of advantage.

Watched two episodes and I'm amazed with the waves of love for  it in this pretty critical forum.

The guy can't act for shit, it's like he's just reading the lines.

I guess it must be hard to find an actor that has the required stature and physique as well as coming across as intelligent.

Will keep with it, but not feeling it like everyone else.

This is pretty good in my opinion until the last episode.  Its janky as fuck in the major action scene.  The cgi is horrible and nothing about it looks convincing.  I still like the character and I'd watch another season but it drops from 4 out of 5 for me to 3 because it looks so bad in the last episode.

That's a little harsh. He is a good actor in other stuff (like Titans) but here I'm guessing he's being asked to play this Schwarzenegger like figure and he's doing that fine imo. :) Hes not showing massive range but then that's not what the role requires. He just needs to look convincing when punching things.

About half way though this and it's enjoyable trash. Tetris.

For some reason I giggle every time at the unnecessarily long "Based on the novel Killing Floor by the author Lee Child featuring the character Jack Reacher and other characters that were also in books by the author Lee Child who is a person who writes books featuring the character Jack Reacher"

Finished tonight - I thought it held up well over the series. Disappointed to learn from my wife that

Spoiler

Roscoe doesn’t appear in any of the other books, which is a pity as I thought Willa Fitzgerald was excellent in this.

I’m repeating most other points of view but I’m very pleasantly surprised by the show.

I was dreading watching this as my in-laws recommended it. Let’s just say our tastes and general world view are a tad at odds.

But it’s very hard not to love. He plays Reacher well, Willa Fitzgerald is great and even develops a little through the series and the supporting cast do their thing. There are some decent action scenes that cause a wince or two and there are some genuine laugh out loud moments. Looking forward to finishing this season and I’m sure there will be more.

Liking this too but it helps having read the book and seeing it’s such a faithful adaptation of utter pulpy trash. Treads a fine line and without Roscoe not sure it would hold up.

The kids love it. They call Reacher an NPC when he walks around. 😁

I think that is the case with all of the stories. Reacher simply would not work without that key female character and its great to see it done so well on this first outing. 2 episodes left and loving every minute of it.

That’s interesting. Only ever read this one to see what the fuss was about. Hadn’t realised he always has a female foil. The books aren’t really my cup of tea but it does what it says on the tin and isn’t remotely embarrassed about it! As a TV series it works really well.

It shows just how well the book has aged (first published in 1997) that very little, if anything, has been adjusted for it to make the screen. Reacher doesn't acknowledge the passage of time. Time adjusts itself for him.

Looking forward to watching this. How different is this to the novel? Killing Floor is about as generic a "man goes into a small town, sorts shit out and leaves" story as it gets but is no less entertaining for it, in fact I prefer it to some of the later ones.
