I went into this year knowing that I would spend quite a bit, but aside from the self-indulgent day one purchases (FFVIIR, P5R, Yakuza) I think I could have done a lot worse. I didn't go nuts during the sales and my biggest "luxury" was the RS-97. And even that was about the cost of some full-price games.

Also, keep in mind that plenty of people outside of this thread bought Xbox Series consoles and PS5s this year, so people shouldn't feel too bad ;) (that said, I might be too scared to jump in on the '21 thread as I'll probably be joining the new gen as well...)

Ended up nearly £500 up this year, despite buying 2 gaming PC's, a Quest, a Quest 2 and a Series X.  Had a steady trickle of sales through the year to help me out.  Thanks to the Quest 2 purchase, I hadn't raised the funds to cover the Series X, so flogged it straight away.  Didn't realise quite how much effort it would be to get another!  Expecting £250 to come out of my total as I need to refund a refund on the Quest 2 thanks to the great Oculus debacle of 2020.

I ended up failing to buy a new console and still spending £996, which contrasts badly with the zero I spent in 2019. I now have a massive backlog as well as around £450 in store credit to spend. So even factoring in buying both a Series X and PS5 I should be able to comfortably spend less in 2021 than 2020. At least that’s the plan.

I've not properly tracked it but 2020 has been the most expensive since 2017, the main ones I remember are

Series  X £449

51 classics Switch £40

Links Awakening £33 *

Xbox Gamepass (3 years gold converted)  £120

Cyberpunk £0 (voucher)

Control ultimate edition £0 (MS points) *

*not yet started!

In 2021, I could end up spending very little due to gamepass and Microsoft rewards netting me on average £100 a year.

Spoiler

New PC as old one broke: £1070

RDR2 £45

Divinity 2:OS £20

Assassins Creed Odyssey £20

Cyberpunk Pre Order £23

Hylics £1

Year of Game Pass £40

Thronebreaker £9

ESO: Catmandu £20

FFXIV: Complete Edition £20

Muse Dash £4

Disco Elysium £25

Noita £11

Morrowind on Steam (to replace lost old 2003 CD copy) £4

Death Stranding £11

Total: £1340

Not including PC (not entirely gaming related, use from WFH): £260

Not too bad overall, most stuff I picked up cheap, and Game Pass meant I didn't spend money on stuff that was on my wishlist like Doom Eternal.
