Best TV of 2019

Recommended Posts

It’s been a ridiculously good year for TV, so had to compile a top ten and see what everyone else’s highlights are. The fact that great shows like Mindhunter, Legion and Dark Crystal don’t even make my top ten speaks volumes for how good a year it’s been.

1. Watchmen

2. Too Old To Die Young

3. Succession

4. Game Of Thrones (deal with it)

5. Fleabag

6. This Time With Alan Partridge

7.The Virtues

8. Mum

9. When They See Us

10. Top Boy

I’m really liking His Dark Materials, but need to wait and view it as a whole before assessing my final thoughts.

This felt like a proper good year for TV. The prestige stuff was really amazing and lots of new stuff impressed.

 Barry

 Beforeigners

 Derry Girls

 Servant

 Watchmen

 The Boys

 Fleabag

 Succession

 Alan Partridge

 Russian Doll

1) Chernobyl

2) Dublin Murders

3) The Expanse

4) The Boys

5) Barry

Sounds like Watchmen and Beforeigners need watching.  The Virtues exhausted me so I had to abandon it

Watchmen come top of my list, with an honourable mention for The Boys, which was just riotously fun.

Would Fleabag round out my top three? It absolutely would.

1. Chernobyl

2. Succession S2

3. The Boys

Others I have watched and enjoyed...The Loudest Voice, What We Do In The Shadows, Dark Crystal, Living With Yourself, Mindhunter S2, Narcos:Mexico, Stranger Things S3.

Thanks for this thread! I've been completely ignoring Watchmen, didn't realize it was being so well received. I'm in!

1. Chernobyl

2. Dark Crystal

3. Watchmen (not finished yet)

4. Too Old To Die Young

5. The Boys

6. The Expanse

7. Stranger Things S3

8. When They See Us

9. Mandalorian (not finished yet)

10. Game Of Thrones

Watchmen/Mandalorian could shift about a bit once I've seen all the episodes, but yeah thats a pretty impressive bulk of TV. When they See Us perhaps could be a little higher, but then it was more a case of one incredible episode making it a must watch series. Thrones should be in there I guess despite them fucking it up.

When is Doom Patrol hitting the UK? Interesting to see Pennyworth get a mention, it's on a channel I've never heard of.

4) Jack Ryan S2

1. Chernobyl

2. The Virtues

3. Giri/Haji

4. Unbelievable

5. I Am...

6. When They See Us

7. This Time With Alan Partridge

8. Years and Years

9. Stranger Things

10. The Mandalorian

Lots of stuff I didn't get around to watching - I think I'll try to catch up with Watchmen at least, maybe Dublin Murders and The Capture. The top two here were a cut above anything else, though.

Chernobyl by an absolute mile. Just untouchable.

Watchmen for doing the impossible in being a worthy sequel.

Doom Patrol for the sheer ridiculous fun it is.

Returning shows in The Expanse S4 and Mindhunter S2 kept a very high standard.

Chernobyl wasn't the best show of 2019. It was the best show of the decade. Breaking Bad a close second. GoT would have been third if it didn't betray you at the last hurdle.
