Let me add to the what: WHAT????

I was literally drinking coffee as I read this because I missed the news yesterday. The reports of it being more SotN-like sounds absolutely PERFECT for me. GIMME DAT EXPLORING

While I quite liked the original Axiom Verge, I fell off of it at the end, didn't manage to finish it & so wasn't really interested in the sequel.

But upon seeing the reviews & impressions for the sequel I thought all the changes sounded like exactly my cup of tea.  More of a focus on exploration & story than combat & weapons & it even has sliders so that if the game is kicking my ass I can tune it more to my liking.

And so i've got it & put a few hours in & i'm really liking it so far.

atmos is great tho

Of course it is. ;) This is like deKay saying his hardware is faulty.

Tip: you can really customize the hell out of the difficulty in the settings.

Am I right in thinking that the ring in the bottom left is a compass, but it's a rather vague one?

Yes. It's literally introduced as such. 😅

Maybe it will have a higher frame rate, because other than faster loading, which is pretty instant anyway, what can they improve in a game which looks like an Amiga game by design? Haptics maybe, I don’t know.

The "Stay tuned for additional platforms" comment and the lack of an XBox mention so far makes me wonder (rather wishfully tbh!) if it's perhaps penned in come to Game Pass?

Perhaps, but given how cool the developer is, and how ace his games are, and the fact it’s only £15, I’d advise an immediate purchase on your platform of choice other than Xbox :)

Got really giddy after finding a certain note.

Spoiler

In the Giguna Steppes at the base. It’s a note by Trace! The something-agonist of Axiom Verge 1. :D

One nitpick: the default sound balance if horrible. Had to turn BGM way up and SFX way down. The destruction effect (amongst others) is horribly loud!
