My experience with the beta has got me all-in on this, I do miss the right analogue for dodgerolling but I also can appreciate why it’s gone and what they’re aiming for. Think I’ll be Druiding  it up in the open beta this weekend

Preloaded the open beta onto a couple of computers. That's this evening's entertainment sorted for after the kids are asleep.  As in,  Mrs Monkeydog and myself can queue together for the open beta, get bored, give up and then go and rage watch Picard.

One disappointment per evening not enough for you?

Don't be surprised if after queuing for an hour you get an error message or get booted after a minute.
If it's anything like the first round, it got a lot better after the first day when everyone and their ganny was rushing to get on there.
Staying up is your best bet if that's an option, the servers really seemed to calm down later on in the night when all the normal Normans were abed.

As Layten said earlier in the thread, run it windowed while you do other things, when the window is unfocused/inactive it runs at like 7fps or something and won't use much resources.

It's worth noting that part of this is not just the initial rush of people but the devs being defensive.

There was an interview somewhere this week that discussed how they put delays in the login process to slow it all down. Over the course of the test they halved and halved and halved these delays until they're practically nothing. This allows them to manage load a bit and protect against overloading certain parts, or all, parts of the system at once.

In the end, testing the overloaded system and the queuing function is part of the test. They need the capacity to be exceeded at least for some period of time so that they can understand that when it does happen (and it will) then they can at least handle it gracefully.

Well, played a good ten minutes before I hard locked the Steam Deck and got back into an hour queue! Could be anything, though, it's a beta after all.

Started with Necro, I'm enjoying the Scythe skill a lot to help manage what your summons are killing - it's slow, but it has massive AoE. I also love how grimy the world is and the initial customisation of the character.

Boo - played a bit more, game crashed again, look at queue - 140 mins this time.

I think I'll wait until tomorrow morning to play again - it's clear I'll have to fuck around with ProtonGE and video settings to get it running well, and I can't be doing that while it takes hours to get in. I can sit there watching YouTube while in the queue, but it's a waste of videogame time!

Waited it out while doing other stuff and I’m really quite enjoying it. Had to ramp the brightness up a fair bit as it’s very dark. Far too many long (but beautiful) cutscenes  at the start for my liking.

Played for the last 2 hours after the initial hour queue. Was going fine and enjoying the Barbarian but got to a boss and the lag made it unplayable, died during lag spikes on several attempts. Good stuff though, although I’ll probably give it few weeks until after release for things to settle down.

  • Kryptonian changed the title to Diablo IV - Open Beta this weekend. Current status - Queuing

HDR on PS5 is complete nonsense with a clearly raised black level. Proper fucking amateur hour on that front.

Not a good first impression from a gameplay perspective either, it feels ancient. I'm just pressing X repeatedly to hit stuff while running through identikit corridors. It's 1997 all over again. I can see why Diablo fans are loving it, but this is mutton dressed as lamb.

the lag on my necromancers skeletons was far worse than any lag I saw last weekend. I assume it’ll calm down tomorrow.
