Yeah I hate this too, I'm sure it's some auto focus lens thing which means cheaper cinematography (who needs a director of photography right) as you can use the same lens and camera for any shot whatever the range, it is terrible. Homecoming on Netflix was particularly bad for it, in fact it seemed to be most popular around that time, between 2017 and 2019. It seems to have become lesser used now.

Minor nitpick… isn’t Homecomming on Prime. Sorry.

Finished The Morning Show S1 now - really liked that!  The plot is bit trashy at times, but still compelling - and the production and performances are terrific.

Now started Ted Lasso!  Which I love already

I got a year of this with my Macbook and dived right into The Morning Show - love it!  Billy Crudup is absolutely brilliant in it.  A few episodes to go yet, but I can't work out how I'm enjoying being in the company of such a creepy guy.  I can't tell if he's going to joke along amiably with me or grab my ass without my consent, but I want to find out.

Anybody else watching ‘Physical’?

Really enjoying it and not at all what I was expecting.

I’m about half way through Physical and it’s excellent. I’ve no idea why some of this Apple TV + material doesn’t get better reviews. Must be some sort of anti Apple agenda as they’ve really nailed some of these shows.

I've watched four episodes of The Mosquito Coast and it's really taken a dive in quality. Melissa George's character is, well, what is her character? I couldn't tell you. In episode 4, she now seems to be...

Spoiler

some badass taking on the Cartel.

When I look at who's behind the show, Neil Cross, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The dialogue is terse to the point of banality. And as for what Theroux's character has done, I'm not sure even the writers know yet. It's currently following the Lost formula of someone about to reveal something big, only to be interrupted, with the conversation fizzling out. Funniest one was someone knocking on the door just as Theroux was about to spill the beans. Maybe it gets revealed later in the season. Can anyone tell me if it does? If not, I'm out.

I saw it through to the end as I thought it was a mini-series based on a single book. Barely anything happened or was resolved and its extended for another season. I thought Theroux was excellent as always, and it is exquisitely shot. The rest of the cast and the plot, writing, etc is all mediocre. Disappointed.

I won't be watching any more.

Anyone tried Schmigadoon yet?

I've just finished the first episode. A bit like Galavant, if you saw that, but less charming, knowing or clever. There are hints that it might have a bit more substance than that did, but it's too early to tell.

I loved this show, although it was typical of those type of shoes that are very nicely made and watchable but you think ‘what really happened?’

Trailer for Tom Hanks new film, Finch which comes to the platform on the 5th November. Its directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed some of the great Game of Thrones episodes including Battle of the Bastards.

Is Tom Hanks annoyed about this skipping the cinema?  Wasn't he titsed off when Apple bought Greyhound?

For some reason all I could think about while watching this was Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E. from Friends.

At first I laughed at how little there appears to be on Apple TV + but… now I quite like that there’s less on there but of a higher standard than Netflix’s absolute flood of content. Feels a bit a more curated and much less overwhelming.

I’ve got fuck-all time to watch that much anyway.

I'm 4 episodes into Ted Lasso and I absolutely love it, so besides that, what else should I look for?

For All Mankind

Tehran

Mythic Quest

The Morning Show

Servant

are probably the big ones.

Foundation just started and should fit in your 3 months.

Servant may be marmite and does have people doing stupid things.

Tehran, then everything else.

Physical is good fun too (if you are okay with a programme about eating disorders).

EDIT: There are also loads of the classic Charlie Brown specials, which I consider essential viewing.

Defending Jacob is my favourite thing on Apple TV+, yet nobody talks about it. It’s great.

Proclaiming Defending Jacob as the best thing on Apple TV+ is the hill I will die on.

Deep cut at this point, but the Beastie Boys documentary is great. I also liked Greyhound with Tom Hanks. And if you like Bruce Springsteen there is a decent documentary set in the studio with him and the E Street Band reminiscing and recording a new album.
