Man sues everyone over X-Men cartoon intro

Recommended Posts

A man in Florida is suing *deep breath* Marvel, Buena Vista Television, Apple, Amazon, Haim Saban, Warner Chappell Music, UMG Recordings, Ron Wasserman and Shuki Levy. He claims to represent the composer of the theme to a Hungarian 80s TV show, Linda. He's representing himself in court, so I'm sure the huge corporations are scared.

Here's the two pieces in question

Doesn’t it!

I’d say he has a strong case. Not only did X-Men quite clearly rip off the tune directly, they also seem to have pinched much of the intro itself.

That is exactly the same bloody tune!

If this guy doesn’t win his case there’s no justice. Especially when people keep handing over millions to Marvin Gaye’s estate for having some of the same notes arranged in a completely different order.

Has the guy been in a coma for 30 years? How's he just noticed?

What have Amazon and Apple got to do with it anyway? Amazon was a book shop when Xmen was made.

He says it’s because it’s available on Prime Video and iTunes.

I think the fairest way to settle this would be to get the studio and their lawyers on one side of a field and him and his mates on the other, then they run at each other. Last man standing gets a bag of cash and a giant yellow novelty wheelchair.

I'm pretty sure I listened to a podcast recently, or was it a YouTube video, of an interview with the X-men composer. He looked like a downbeat.

This video is kinda brilliant!

The X-Men theme still sends a shiver down my spine every time I hear it, TV themes are definitely a lost art.

Not sure about the legal aspects, but the animation at the end of that Linda title sequence is fucking great. I would assume it's rotoscoped, but it looks lovely, like something out of Akira.
