Besides from the IPS screen, my only other wish is to have to usb charging as I don't want to be swapping out batteries all the time. Its why I haven't gone down this route yet.

AAs are part of the retro charm, you absolute heathen!

I wish I could switch out the unreliable lithium cell in the Miyoo Mini for a AA compartment. That’d be immense.

Mate we live in the 21st century.

I know, but lith cells don’t last forever and degrade gradually over time. Then you’re at the mercy of the battery manufacturer years down the line when you eventually want a replacement (like me right now with my n3DS XL). That also applies to the generic/dodgy non-OEM types.

At least you can always be guaranteed a fresh set of AAs.

OK you got me, how long do AA lasts for Gameboys?.

I guess that would partly depend on whatever screen you go with. I don’t have a Gameboy (yet(?)), but the AGS-101 screen in my GBA is considerably more efficient than the non-luminated stock screen. I get around 10 hours out of a pair of Eneloops.

Yeah I should get a GBA instead but I just love the look of the GB and it was my first portable so holds more sentimental value.

Really that long?

That is when mine is due, and I ordered mine the day the pre-orders opened, so you'd be 5-6 months of purchases behind that. The shop says (in a vague link under the "add to cart" button) that orders are in pre-order group c which is "2023". Could even be fricking christmas 2023.

OK, of interest were people charged customs as well?. If so how much was it.

I received mine at the end of March. £42 in total including the Fed Ex handling fee.

You can knock off the handling fee (about £10) apparently if you want to argue with Fed Ex, but I chose not to as they had my DE10-Nano at the time and I didn't want them holding that hostage.

Fwiw on the handling fee, they've not replied to me on my usual "I ain't paying that" email. In fact they've just sent me a letter saying I've to pay in 10 days or they're escalating.

So that route out of it may have been cut off.

Anyway, customs were about £55 - I got a Pocket and Dock.

The Everdrive X3 that I ordered from Krikzz finally arrived this morning from Ukraine and seems to work like a charm on my Pocket.

Newer GB / GBA Everdrives are fine as Krikzz made allowances in their design to deal with the Pocket.

It's older ones that can require modding to work on the console, until Analogue release a fixed firmware.

Yeah. Mine is one of the batch they’d found at the beginning of April after the war had started so I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a new one or an old one.

https://www.analogue.co/announcements/pocket-os-v1-1beta-coming-in-july

"Analogue Pocket OS v1.1 [beta] is coming in July.

We've been hard at work pushing the envelope of what Pocket is capable of for FPGA development.

We appreciate everyone's patience.

This release will include beta versions of:

Library

Memories

FPGA Development

We will continue to progress Analogue OS regularly after OS v1.1 [beta] is released in July."

I’d like to remind everyone that it plays carts fine (except some Everdrives), should the topic of jailbreaks arise. 😅

Personally, I want the jailbreak ONLY so I can make a video on it for YouTube and snag some extra subscribers 😂😂

it’s the only reason I still have the thing tbh, hardly used it!!

I’m seeing this like a ridiculous vinyl system purchase. I’ve got loads of way to play gba roms, what I don’t have is a premium way to play my original Rhythm Tengoku, Wario Ware, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem and Metroid Carts.

ridiculous unneeded ‘it sounds better on the original cart’ luxury. Can’t wait.

I got fed up of trying to get the everdrive gba mini and gb x7 so I went for these instead.

EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition DE

and

EZ Flash Junior Jr - Gameboy GB Color GBC

Apparently they work (albeit with a few issues) on the the pocket and are a lot cheaper as well.

Still waiting to receive my Pocket and Dock so all will hopefully be fixed by the time it arrives

It seems that Analogue might be opening up their machines to open source FPGA. Which is a tantalising prospect, as  it could open the door to other cores, including arcade cores and the like.

I'd definitely been interested in FPGA games on the go!

Curious about the delivery of these open source cores. Are they going to be freely updated by the authors, regardless of firmware? Analogue aren't exactly speedy with their own updates.

It would be funny if someone released a Game Boy core that worked with Everdrives properly.
