Tonight's task was just weird. What did the negotiations have to do with anything really? We were never given any idea of the costings so it seems like they could really have offered anything. Some were going for £5,000 some were going for £8,000 but it seemed arbitrary and no attention was paid to what that would have actually meant for any kind of profit margin.

i think when he pm'd the drink task and his on point branding sold a shit product it resonated with siralun and that saved him. I think he's trying to play the role of this lot are all morons and beneath me, but needs to join in a bit more, as only Karen gets to play that role.

The latest task was aimless, arbitrary horseshit. There didn’t appear to be any briefing, just, ‘design a pod’. A party pod is a great idea, if you know who you’re pitching to. If it’s Network Rail, probably not.

 

The edit of Akeem’s pitch was blatantly constructed too. Tim criticised him for having his back to the audience, yet in the footage shown there was a big screen in the background, with a POV shot from Akeem’s perspective, so he could have been demoing the pod’s interior.

 

I know the show is about as ‘reality’ as a tabloid newspaper, but feels like even the production crew can’t be arsed anymore.

Whys hasn't there been a triple firing? It could have easily happened this series. When Suga went to the house before the Wales task, that was the perfect opportunity to boot someone with some excitement and create real tension/fear. 

 

The lassy who was fired this week, (Charlotte?), seemed a bit ill or off somehow, maybe I'm imagining it.

We did have a contestant unexpected leave which probably has consequences in terms of how many people he can fire per week.

That's the way it always works on this show isn't it? The suppliers clearly never actually give a fuck what they are getting paid because they are getting a fat appearance or location fee from the BBC anyway.

Another thing that always happens every episode... When they get back to the boardroom Alan always has exactly the same criticisms of the teams' projects and actions as his advisors raised, while they were following the teams around. Like, it makes it really obvious he doesn't actually bother to watch them, or to review what they've done.

They were all waiting for their lunch and then a man dressed as a dinner lady came in all crouched over forward pushing a trolley with all the lunch in it but the lunch wasn't prepared and he was very polite but incredibly creepy and he pushed all their lunch past them and into another room and then he said he needed to make "a bed of sauce" and it still took ages for them to get their lunch and they were all arguing really loudly in the room next door to all of the people that had spent £300 per head on a luxury day. 

 

Stupid? Yes. A complete waste of time from a business perspective? Absolutely! Shit? No. Absolutely not.

The negotiation bit is rubbish really, as they're clearly being set up to fail - they only have one customer and only one opportunity to speak to them, and the people they're negotiating with clearly know that, so the contestants are at a huge disadvantage. In real life, if one client is taking the piss, you can always try another one, and if there was only one client you could deal with, you'd have done a lot more research.

 

I wonder what would happen if the contestants pushed a bit harder, and threatened to walk away and the "client" called their bluff. Presumably they wouldn't be allowed to, as the programme wouldn't work if one team just lost their only client.

Yeah it's all a load of nonsensically-structured bollocks now. Constantly asking the teams to choose their designs/events before pitching to the client so they don't even know what the client wants before making the choices. Only giving them the opportunity to pitch to one client so they're at an immediate disadvantage as they can't walk away or there would be no show.

 

Then they don't get to even try the things they've booked, like the racing simulator, until it's too late. Karen said the team should have walked away from the racing simulator at £800 but what would that have cost them in refunds after telling them that one of the key things they'd sold them on wasn't there because it was a bit crap?

 

The biggest piss-take was the catering though. Again, they're at an immediate disadvantage with the negotiating because there is only one caterer. But the funniest thing was that paying £26 per head for butter chicken and a dessert they then had to cook it themselves?! What a load of nonsense. That price is clearly the price you'd pay to have it cooked for you, not for the raw ingredients. But obviously they want the teams who aren't professional cooks to mess it up so they have to cook it.

 

I feel like the show is insulting to the audience's intelligence these days honestly. It's all very 'lol, they don't know their way around this museum they've never been in before and they don't know how to work the exhibits because they've never seen them before, aren't they stupid?'

That's the thing isn't it. These people are (mostly) successful people who have set up their own businesses and employ people to do these things for them, not because they are hiding away from responsibility, but because they hire people who know what they are doing. 

 

Sir Loin wouldn't go into the kitchen at his next board meeting and knock out 200 bowls of finger food. He wouldn't design the logo of his next cheap shitty product. He'd hire people with the right skills to do that. Not a lady that owns a string of hair dressing salons and chap who sells pillows. 

 

This is all so stupid now.

I see the show as an endurance race for business people - if they can absorb enough humiliation they get a chance to win money for there business. I'm not in it for business acumen just to see them slowly getting worn down so they don't even question why they are dressed in a cheap mario costume during a professional pitch.

I think you’re all way overthinking it. Of course the situations they’re put into aren’t what they would be in the real world (they never were), but they still have plenty of opportunities to fail or thrive under the set parameters. This is what’s always made the format so engrossing. Some tasks work better than others for this but it’s always very watchable.

 

The green team had plenty of opportunities to not fuck up as much as they did. The original negotiation was a prime example. The corporate bods weren’t budging because what the green team were asking for was miles above there budget. They could’ve definitely got at least another 30/40 quid a head out of them, but they didn’t even try. Just went straight from 600 odd quid to 240. The shows not setting them up to fail there, they’re doing that all by themselves.
