They really should have had a more specific warning at the start.

Also Daemon’s daughters need more to do, other than walking up, standing beside someone and smiling. They remind me of Jenny Powell on wheel of fortune except they probably spend less time spurning John Leslie’s advances.

Do you mean Corless' daughters?

Great ending.

Spoiler

I didn’t see it as an anti-climax at all, and thought it ended perfectly: the whole season has been a setup/prologue for the (presumed) chaos that will follow.

I was pretty blown away with this series, in all honestly. Wasn’t expecting to be. I was a bit upset when the big time shift happened, I think in part because I was enjoying the two young leads so much. In hindsight I can see why it was structured this way, and Olivia Cooke / Emma D’Arcy were both wonderful in the second half.

I think perhaps it needs more humour in the next season. I know things have gone from bad to shit, but a Tyrion-style character wouldn’t go amiss.

Thought it was great.

Spoiler

I didn't like one-eye killing the kid because he's a dick but it worked and it was pretty tense from the Baratheon arrival onwards.  He would have known whose dragon that was right?  I would have got back on the dragon at that point, but I guess Westeros customs/rules e.t.c.

The one thing that I didn't get was Rhaenyra's insistence on propping herself up in the most uncomfortable position to self deliver the baby -not that I have a clue about child birth.  Can they please only be allowed maximum 1 horrific child birth next season.

Overall I really enjoyed the series and its pulled me right back in a way I wasn’t expecting, faith restored in the GoT brand.

Didn’t think the ending was anti climatic, quite the opposite, they’ve put a whole series now into the groundwork for what comes next and the whole thing felt very assured.

It does miss a bit of lightness, there isn’t a single character likely to say anything even vaguely amusing or a comment in black humour.

Final thought is the dragons, I just don’t think they are very good, the movement looks weird and the cgi when they’re flying is rubbish (the close ups are good).

Spoiler

The big chase in the finale was pish, like something out of Neverending Story or some kids movie.

I like the storyline of the kids kicking things off like that, just didnt like the execution, didnt feel thrilling or exciting, just childish and cheap looking.

Overall though really strong and I’m definitely looking forward to the next season.

Agree about the black humour, they need a Tyrion or a Bronn.

Spoiler

The bit where Daemon gripped Rhaenera by the throat in a fit of rage does not bode well for any would-be marital bliss. Strong stuff, and you could really see the fear and confusion in the eyes of Emma D’Arcy.

Absolutely loved the series.

I was watching LOTR and then this. The contrast from utter shite to quality was jarring. In a good way.

Spoiler

Daemon. I thought he was leaning towards being someone we can grow to like as he clearly calmed down from him being an utter nutter decades previous but him strangling the queen showed he's unpredictable. Which is a good thing.

Also, that big dragon is fucking mint.

Best table in all the realm. Did we see it lit up like that in GOT? It's awesome.

Oh yeah, the dragons and politics and stuff were good as well I s'pose.

It's not a good look for the show when everybody is upstaged by a table.

Spoiler

In fairness it is the best table ever made.

Finished watching the series. Some bullet points;

- More like a season 2-3 of GOT, dialed down with a focus on family/politics. I prefer this dialed down tone over post season 3 of GOT.

- Found it difficult to follow the details, had to rely on Alt shift x but I kind of enjoy watching those so it's all good

- Less boobage than GOT. I always felt that even GOT had multiple strong female characters, I think HOTD went even further with this here.

- Great casting in general. Rhys Ifans was the standout for me., he reminds me a bit Charles Dance in GOT where he fit the tone of the show perfectly in every way.

- Too many dodgy CGI looking dragons, they look at their absolute worst when flying with a person on their back.

It would have burnt Melissandra's bum when Stannis and her were doing the monster mash.

To my mind the most impressive thing the series has acheived is it has rekindled my interest and enjoyment of the GOT franchise & I would have given big odds on that happening before it started.:hat:

Reading comments on here and eslewhere I can see I am not alone, so bring on season 2.

That was great. I love how they have shown childbirth to be a battle in this series. Probably essential with so many female leads, but there’s something really empowering about giving royal decrees during a contraction.
Makes you realise all the men are totally subservient to the women to be able to continue their lines.

Vermithor, the Bronze Fury, the dragon once ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen (King before Viserys). I guess he knows because it's a book thing.

Vermithor? Boo. I was hoping it was The Cannibal.

She laboured and gave birth in the most natural position. Standing bent and squatting, and then catching your baby, is how it was done. Opens the pelvis and birth canal so the baby can rotate, and gravity helps. Lying on your back closes it all up.
It’s why they put a woman in stirrups if they need to rush them; to recreate a squat position.

A lot of birthing centres have “squatting stools” as part of the labour kit, as well as ropes or scarves hanging from the ceiling for women to support themselves hanging off of. Like the play ropes you see in ape enclosures at the zoo.

So, just finished it. Found it pretty dull for the first half season, but from 6-7 onwards it improved markedly, largely down to Paddy getting better with age, and Ifans too. I love one-eye Prince, though the fact he looks about 40 when he’s supposed to be the younger Targ brother cracks me up. Ended well too.

The main beef I have with it, is it’s just so humourless. There isn’t a single character I actually like or care for. Just dozens of nasty bastards, barely a one with any redeeming features. You need a little wit and levity else it’s all just this one-note, grimdark, festival of cunts. And based on how it ended, you can only really expect more of the same. Should have called it “A Song of Spite and Ire.”

Still in for S2 of course.
