Apple Arcade

Do you not get delay? I gave Drive Ahead a go on the CX through Airplay a while ago and it seemed to have it, not entirely unplayable but not really ideal for that kind of game.

That’s the only one I’ve tried, I might give Sping a go later.

Fantasian is out now. Glad I get to give it a try before my trial runs out at the end of the month.

Looks like I’m eligible for another month’s free trial, having previously had one when Apple Arcade first launched. Definitely want to play Fantasian, it looks delightful, but I’m just coming to the end of a 50+ hour play-through of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (which is great) and I feel like the last thing I need to do now is immediately start another JRPG.

Has there been any chat about Fantasian’s duration? Did I read that they’d constructed 150-odd dioramas to make up the game world? Is 150 screens typical of a traditional Sakaguchi JRPG I wonder?

New (well, it was announced in April '18) Platinum thing:

Quote

PlatinumGames has released a brand new game exclusively on Apple Arcade. World of Demons is an action game that features a gorgeous art style inspired by traditional Japanese ukiyo-e and sumi-e woodblock prints. As samurai Onimaru, players will battle and recruit yokai and oni based on Japanese folklore creatures and demons.

There’s a tiny amount of delay which is noticeable if I put my phone in front of my TV so I can see both. Not noticeable when playing Nuts or Farm It (only two games I’ve tried so far), but I would imagine something more twitchy would have issues. But then, you wouldn’t play something twitchy on a telephone.

No, I think it’s fine. If I can’t notice it on Sping it’s good enough for anything I’d say.

And the rest. Following Fantasian from the day before, Clap Hanz Golf, World Of Demons and Taiko No Tatsujin! Pop Tap Beat are pretty notable original games from Japanese developers released out of the blue.

This has had me resubscribing to the service, I've been loving ClapHanz golf and introduced my son to Taiko no Tatsujin and the Song Pop Party is the kind of game I like to dip into that usually drives me crazy with ads.

Who knew mobile gaming could be fun without constant ads, cool down timers and loot?

Fantasian is... odd? It plays very well, like a classic FF, but it looks... Bad. Maybe because I'm playing on a TV via an Apple TV 4K, but urgh. It has this foreground/background contrast like the FFIX remaster and the handcrafted backdrops bring up memories of... <whispers> Shadow Madness...

Still, more fun than DQXI so far (which admittedly ain't hard), but I feel like it's a bit of a failure on the graphics side. Also, that's the worst default combat theme Uematsu has produced so far.

Song Pop Party is RIDICULOUSLY addictive - it’s great to play locally or against cpu, but online it’s even better as it pits you against a group of randoms and picks from amongst the playlists you are all using.

Fastest finger wins!

Taiko no Tetsujin works rather well on an iPhone with all the tapping on the screen. :) (And it has the Ridge Racer theme in there, which is the closest we've gotten to a new instalment in almost a decade).

Thanks. I’ve had the PS3 out this week to check the store before it closes, but I fired up Everybody’s Golf World Tour and it’s so much better than the PS4 game. If it wasn’t for the PS3 being out I’d have jumped on this. For now I will wait, but it’s good to know my £5 will entertain the children too.

It's always a sad moment when you 100% a game you've loved playing, and not something I do very often really. It's the case now for Sping which I've got 3* on all the one chance levels on top of the main 10 chapters.

Only the daily time trials to play until they get round to releasing some more levels.

I’ve 3* all the main ones now and am on to lvl 2 of the one chancers...how many chapters are there of those?
