Obi-Wan’s gift to Luke of the T16 Skyhopper model (initially rejected by Owen)? Luke is playing with it in ANH when Threepio takes his oil bath.

Obi-Wan says goodbye to Leia and she asks if she will ever see him again. She does, one last time, when her dad is slicing him in half. 

 

 

Doesn't Obi-Wan become one with The Force just before Vader's lightsabre hits him? That's why Vader steps on Obi-Wan's cloak after he's gone. Vader's not sure what has happened.

Yes. It’s also what happens to Yoda and Luke when they die, but Obi Wan effectively commits Jedi suicide or something.

Also the whole “if you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine”…well, that doesn’t really happen, does it? He doesn’t become more powerful, all he does is talk to Luke occasionally. He basically becomes an extra from the Frighteners.

Yeah - I was kind of exaggerating for dramatic effect, but from Leia’s point of view Vader kills him. Thing is, now that we know Leia not only knew Kenobi but had a grandfatherly relationship with him, she seems more concerned about comforting Luke in the Falcon afterwards than expressing much grief herself. Perhaps she was just being stoic.

It's always been like that. Her home planet and billions of people on it including her adoptive parents have just been obliterated but she must comfort the random farm boy she's only just met because the old wizard he only just met vanished in front of them. That's Star Wars for ye!

He was just trolling Vader, knowing he’d freak out when he saw the empty robes and from then on would be half expecting beast mode Obi-Wan to appear at any moment.

I think Leia is just cold as fuck. It’s not only the above, but some years later, after Han dies she goes to hug some random scavenger girl she’s barely met, and leaves Han’s grief-stricken life-debt partner just hanging. Ice cold.

It reminded me of the Last Jedi, and Luke's fear of Kylo Renn, and his shame in preventing him from going the same way as Luke's father. The scene with Anakin brought that into focus too - "You didn't kill Anakin. I did" was quite chilling, and capped off their relationship well. It doesn't stop the Phantom Menace from being a not-very-good film, but it did make me think of the scene where Obi-Wan meets that young boy, and the absolute horror of how he ended up.

 

The very end was really nice, and a bit emotional in places. It helps if you have a sentimental love for Star Wars, but I really liked Owen's grudging "would you like to meet him?", and Obi-Wan's obvious joy at the offer. Plus, "hello there"! I was grinning my head off.

 

The series as a whole was the prequels done better. I don't think I'll be watching the prequels again too often, but this adds to the better version of them that exists in my head, where the story concentrates more on the people, rather than on expository shots of two people walking along a corridor explaining the plot to each other.

 

Once again K writes a fantastic post, and I couldn't of said any of this better! Fantastic and I couldn't agree more!

I think that's just Star Wars. Luke sees the dead bodies of his adoptive parents and his house being burned down, and he's a bit sad in the next scene and then never mentions them again.

My only real issue with the final episode was that the climactic confrontation between Obi-Wan and Vader had already been done almost identically with Asohka in Rebels, and I felt it had more impact there simply because the relationship between Asohka and Anakin had been built up better over the course of seven seasons of The Clone Wars than the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin had been across three fairly mediocre movies. But taken on its own terms it certainly worked and I enjoyed the series overall very much.

I'm four episodes in and its a bit shit isn't it? The writing is woeful and almost all the time I'm just thinking why is he acting such a feeble twat. Why not just use the force once in a while to get out of a jam. Still it looks nice and the episodes are short enough that it doesn't outstay its welcome.

This was very dull, the scenes are just so empty and it's the same thing again and again. Go here, oh no zero tension drama, will they be caught??! No, they got away, oh no they are in trouble again, oh they got away.

I've seen several people say in here "why watch it if you don't like it", and after reading plenty of off putting things around the internet and the debacle that was Book of Boba, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Not watch it. I'm still a massive fan of the OT and even (although to a much, much lesser extent) the prequels. I think I'm out with Disney Star Wars. I liked Rogue One a lot and The Mandalorian was good but the sequels and Boba were awful.

 

So no more SW unless it gets really good word of mouth. I've got a shelf with about two grands worth of Black Series figures and I just can't risk falling out of fun with the shows anymore*

 

I've got enough content in the SW universe that I love to last me a lifetime anyway.
