I can not believe that some people who claim to like Star Wars are genuinely suggesting that it has always been this poorly written. If you honestly think A New Hope is no better than this you don’t like Star Wars.

I don’t think anyone’s suggesting this is as good or well written as the original films. Simply that despite that there are still good things to enjoy in it.

So, what you're saying is, that despite what the fans think of all these characters: Obi Wan, Vader, Boba Fett, they're all actually a bit shit

I wouldn’t say that exactly. I thought Obi-Wan was pretty cool in this. Boba is a mixed bag.

Vader is iconic as a presence on screen, but his record doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

How come Luke doesn’t remmeber being chased by someone with a red light saber when he meets old man kenobi?

He has concussion and only remembers running away from someone in the middle of the night. Beru & Owen say that it was a red light and she was trying to fetch him back.

It's like people didn't even watch Return of the Jedi

Spoiler

It's completely different in RotJ.

Luke strikes Vader down in anger. The Emperor tells him this is the path to the dark side and offers him Vader's place.

Luke turns this down because he still believes there is good in Vader, not because he doesn't believe in killing his enemies.

How many people were kill at Jabbas Palace by Luke? He (or he tells Leia?) to blow the sailbarge up with everyone on it. This is completely unnecessary as the fight is finished!

When Obi-wan has the chance to kill Vader its different because he can't see any good in him. Vader has killed Anakin "from a certain point of view".

Yodas future visions of Anakin were always clouded. Obi-wan would not have know what the future held for Vader.

She actually never has her saber out when he sees her.

I thought McGregor was always shit as Obi-Wan that hasn't changed. He's marginally less shit I suppose but not much.

Visually this was great but almost everything else is the same as everything Star Wars these days. Badly written, badly acted, Inconsistent , illogical, paper thin, and ultimately unsatisfying.

I find it a real struggle to even muster the energy to watch Star Wars stuff any more but I still keep doing it. There is some enjoyment to be had out of most of these series, but I cannot help feeling each one is chipping away at the franchise and soon there will be nothing left of any worth.

I know they are not trying to ruin something great but it sure feels like it sometimes.

The series as a whole was the prequels done better. I don't think I'll be watching the prequels again too often, but this adds to the better version of them that exists in my head, where the story concentrates more on the people, rather than on expository shots of two people walking along a corridor explaining the plot to each other.

Except Obi Wan Kenobi has a runtime of 4 Hours 40 mins. Of which maybe 30 minutes was decent action, the rest was poor dialogue in low budget, crappy space corridors most with really poor lighting.

At least the prequels had a lot of great action set pieces, Obi Wan Kenobi has the running time of two prequel films and didn’t even come close to the action of one.

I know the prequels get a bad rep, but they at least felt high quality. They were made 20 years ago, yet Obi Wan Kenobi feels like a step backwards in quality.

Theres also the really basic plot holes, which even my 11 year old son says makes no sense (and he LOVES the prequels).

Spoiler

“How come Obi Wan Kenobi gets burnt by Darth Vader, yet nothing actually happens to him?”,

“How does an exploding barrel stop Vader using the force on Kenobi, but he can use the force to stop a ship taking off?”,

“How come Reva can use force healing, yet that wasn’t even a thing until episode 9 and if it was a thing, why didn’t Qui Gon Jinn use it”? “

“Because Star Wars” is just becoming more of an excuse since Disney has been involved, but this series is the worst example of it

I'm not that bothered about action; I enjoyed Obi-Wan because it handled the characters extremely well. The fight sequences in the prequels were technically excellent, but also quite boring because I didn't care about the people involved. I watched the climactic lightsabre fight in Revenge of the Sith in isolation a while back, and it was actually better than watching it as part of the film, because I hadn't just sat through over two hours of tedious, stilted, dramatically inert melodrama.

In this, they weren't as lavish, but I found them a hell of a lot more engaging because the series had done the groundwork involved in making you relate to the protagonists.

Just watched the last episode and on the whole it was good. It finally had some resonant moments and the fights were fun. Though lets be honest, the whole show basically boiled down to the last episode, that's what people really wanted to see. The inquisitor storyline had potential but only became interesting at the end, and most of the Leia stuff was just annoying, with a few exceptions. They could have condensed the whole thing into a 2 part mini series and it could have been way better. The last episode showed the potential of what it could have been and feels like a satisfying piece of the prequels > originals arc. But now I pray they let this part of the saga die, the gap filling gets more and more silly as they keep milking the fan favourite characters and storylines. Overall the moments of quality in this show unfortunately don't make up for the rest of its mediocrity for me.

Agree with this.  It's also redeemed some of the faults of the prequels, like Clone Wars did before it.

As for the 'badly written, bad action, bad acting, EVERYTHING IS BAD' takes - I suppose I'll just have to agree to disagree.  Aside from the admittedly ropey forest chase in the first episode, I've really enjoyed it - I'll definitely rewatch.  I think my stepdaughter is due a huge Star Wars binge-a-thon next week (she's just finished her GCSEs so she's got lots of spare to time to relax and enjoy herself) so I look forward to seeing it again.

I hate the prequels with such a loathing that I cannot bear to rewatch them. I thought McGregor was a very minor positive in that slurry pit of Lucas' making. Almost utterly without worth as a trio of films.

As a result I went into this giving almost no fucks about it. It is a decent show with some good action at times and some great Star Wars fan service. It reminds me of Force Awakens in that way, some new stuff and a bunch of old stuff to give us oldies a bit of nostalgic fun.

as I said before , it was Super OK :D

Objectively, there is more bad Starwars than good.

On the contrary, there's more good Star Wars than bad. The novels, comic books and animation is evidence of this.

Woah woah woah.

Right at the start or Phantom Menace Obi Wan and Taken do some kind of weird fast running thing we've never seen before, which then they couldn't recreate in other danger scenes or during fights for some reason.

It was like some cheap college effect.

Then they jump down from a hatch with clearly crap CG.

Right at the start. It stuck out a mile.

Luke Skywalker could do all that before he even knew he had the force, as was seen in this very much part of canon game.

Maybe it was be down to lower gravity in that universe that’s far, far away. Or something.

Obi Wan has been shown previously to have absolutely zero issues with killing people when he feels it necessary, but has also shown a great desire to redeem or otherwise make people answer for what they've done following the proper 'process', the rules, the jedi way. He killed General Greivous without a thought, but wanted to ensure Count Dooku answered for his crimes rather than be killed, for example.

I can see that being true. However Dooku was a bigger fish than Greivous. Dooku had been a Jedi, he was Qui-gon's mentor. Obi-wan probably felt he needed to answer for his actions. Greivous was just a mad cunt in a robot suit. He had probably suffered enough.

Yes he did.

Ah yes. I clearly remember the man sized scorpions of Tattoine.

Has anyone mentioned…

Spoiler

Obi-Wan’s gift to Luke of the T16 Skyhopper model (initially rejected by Owen)? Luke is playing with it in ANH when Threepio takes his oil bath.

I also thought it was sad when

Spoiler

Obi-Wan says goodbye to Leia and she asks if she will ever see him again. She does, one last time, when her dad is slicing him in half.
