Good article on the showrunner crisis that's currently going on due to streaming services needing CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT quickly at any

https://www.vice.com/en/article/epxeze/television-is-in-a-showrunning-crisis

The latest series of Barry (an excellent series that more people should watch) had a subplot about someone going direct from PA to showrunner after noting the random things the algorithm likes and then basing a vacuous series entirely around that.

Thats a really fascinating article. Thanks for sharing :).

It should be fairly obvious that a post that either gets left at the end of a page or caught up among a stream of others that people end up flicking past can be easily missed. Can you imagine if everybody posting in these threads was picking apart minutiae per-post as they were watching as well? Nobody's giving you a "telling off", you're just being asked to be more considerate and understand why some people might find it annoying.

I'm sorry about your hand but you've been doing this a lot longer than the last few weeks. And saying that I'm "goading" you into writing a long reply and having a flounce about never posting in this thread again is being needlessly dramatic.

I made 4 posts per episode. I just happened to watch it all at once, after everyone else had already watched them and the thread was quiet. It's being made to sound like I'm some sort of disruptive forum influence for doing something in my own way.

If you are worried about people flicking past your posts then you're already making an assumption that people aren't going to read them all, or that people have no interest in reading most people's posts sequentially. If that's the case then it won't make a difference how many are posted. They will still see yours if they're reading them.

Oh great, I'm "flouncing" now for being annoyed at this petty nonsense.

Yeah I'm out.

Obviously I wasn't just talking about your posts in this thread.

Call it what you want but getting overly dramatic about minor criticism and threatening not to post anymore is flouncing, like it or not.

Benny's thoughts = good and as valid as anybody else's. I enjoy reading his take on things.

Benny's stream of consciousness posting = not so much. I personally prefer one post with everything in, but I'm not about to start telling a man how he should/shouldn't be posting.

Nobody's saying otherwise. I've quite enjoyed some of the posts he's made about Picard in the past.

The stream of consciousness thing is something that bothered me when it came up but I've only mentioned it today as it was already being discussed and I thought the dismissal of Thor as a "miserable, boring wanker" for disagreeing was a bit much. Otherwise, it's frankly not worth the hassle.

True. Thor isn't boring nor a wanker. Miserable, though.....? :P

The Better Call Saul thread was unbearable while he was doing a full rewatch, while the rest of us were watching the newest season week to week. Just post all of your thoughts in one go after you've finished watching.

Really? The whole thread? I made just a few posts (and fairly extended ones) sprinkled over page 69 and 70, for the entire 5 seasons, when there were only 2 new existing episodes out. Apparently that's "unbearable". I'm not sure you posted more than once in that time, so I was hardly stepping on your toes there, seeing as you're such a prolific contributor.

You're going on ignore as well.

Benny is right about one thing, I've been a bit of a tit asking him to watch a certain show - therefore inviting posts from him about it - while also complaining about him posting. I'll hold my hand up to that one. I was going to @ him with this but I reckon he has me on ignore now.

I'm struggling to understand how those posts would be "ousted" from the conversation, as assuming people are reading new posts in order, they will still be visible and read yours, unless people are just going to skip your posts to read mine for some reason.

I'm not deleting your posts. People can still read them.

It makes it sound like I'm silencing everyone by having some passion about something.

I actually reduced how many I posted at once at one point because I got discouraged by the comments about it and didn't post in some threads because I thought it meant my contribution wasn't wanted anyway. I've always had people in my life take the piss how I write passionately about things with a stream of consciousness sometimes, so to have more people come on here and just give me a "telling off" for trying to take part in the conversation in the best way I can is really disheartening.

I've had my hand in a cast for weeks, so I can literally barely type properly without constant correction as I have to make use of only one hand to make posts, so several short posts on my phone are easier than writing a long one at the moment (this one is a PITA so thanks for goading me into it I guess). If that's "inconsiderate" just contributing that way then I'm not going to post in this thread ever again. Enjoy the last episode everyone, who cares what I think eh.

I like reading your posts fwiw . Keep posting bro the more the better

The people ruining this thread aren’t the ones pointing out the shit in this.

Its the ones shitting on other peoples opinions.

Objectively, this series is piss poor but I like it.

Others will be less tolerant and that’s a good thing. Season 2 might be better if there is one.

Nobody's doing this. The criticism was about the frequency of posting, not the content or the poster.

I’m in the same boat - yes, there's a ton of stupidity going on in the show. But the main cast have been doing a nice job on the whole, it’s been great seeing the McGregor and Christiansen characters onscreen again,  and we’re seeing some master-level Sith moves from Vader. It’s blurred my critical eye. I don’t know if there are any newly hatched plans for a S2, but I’d be happy if there was one.

It would have been nice if there were more scenes with Anakin in this, showing the side of his relationship to Obi Wan that’s hinted at in the original trilogy - friend, war hero, all round good egg - a man who was already an accomplished fighter pilot by the time Obi Wan met him. Instead there’s been one more scene where he’s a petulant, whiny brat who needs teaching a lesson once again by his superior master. It’s a horrible dynamic, which we’ve already seen enough of, when we could have seen a bit more of why Obi Wan wanted to take him on as padawan, seen the good in him, and why it tears old Ben up so much to see him lost to the dark side.

This show is so weird on many levels. It's enjoyable enough fare (for example, I thought episode 5 was a lot of fun), but it's technically so very shonky and could be a lot better. The scripts are pretty bad with plotholes and silly decisions everywhere, and the action sequences are perfunctory at best (and 'Leia chase' at worst). But I don't know how much the show going from expensive looking, to cheap looking, to direction that's reminiscent of a lower sixth film club - sometimes all within the same scene - is being caused by insipid helming vs the difficulties of StageCraft and 'The Volume' vs budgetary constraints. But I don't remember this stuff being so obvious in The Mandalorian. Maybe it's unreasonable to expect film-level lightsabre duels in this, but when you give the same characters lightsabres as in the films, audience expectation is going to be at a certain level. Or maybe now that we're a few years into StageCraft, it's easier to see the joins of this production method. I dunno. The only thing I really like about the lightsabre stuff is the lighting on them, which looks like it was somehow done practically and is amazing.

There are seven seasons of The Clone Wars that do exactly that.

Matt Lanter Anakin > Hayden Christensen Anakin

Budget and talent being spread too thin is much more likely to be the cause rather than the tools.

The Mando had the whole attention of Lucasfilm at the time with a budget to match. This is being made at the same time as several other shows at the company, not to mention all the content being made at other studios.

That's because it was - the new ones light up so you get shots like this:

Those reflections on her eyes are real, not added in later.

The sabre lighting is wonderful- especially in this.
