Anakin Skywalker sucks too my dude. Neither of them are bad characters, they’re bad performances.

The other bad guys in this are horrible too, but they have less screen time. Parceltongue mushroom head man is absolutely ridiculous (even in this context).

Mushroom head is comically bad.

”third sister must pay” lmao

It's not great. I watched Stranger Things S4 at the same time and not only is that better written with better characters and setpieces, but it also looks a million times better. Maybe because they shot on real locations and used a lot of practical effects but the difference is striking. And now I'm watching Reacher, which is pulpy, but pulpy in a fun way, like SW used to be. Obi Wan isn't the worst thing I've ever watched but I'm very indifferent tot it at this point.

Well this is certainly one of the more racist things I've read on this forum.

Huh, what has race got to do with anything? Please don’t try and turn it into something it simply isn’t. I was just trying to say her accent sounds too modern for Star Wars, although that doesn’t feel like the right way to describe it either.

You specifically said she sounds like a rapper - a racial stereotype - and basically said it "doesn't belong" in Star Wars.

Playing the character as a racial stereotype?? She’s using her own accent and she’s doing fairly standard Star Wars villaining. Isn’t she doing exactly what the character calls for? The other two inquisitors can be monotone Cenobite knock offs, but she is supposed to be the one who doesn’t fit in with them, so she will show more emotion and be more obsessive, reckless and openly ambitious etc. Also putting on a bit of a front because the other two openly say they think she’s the worst one and that probably stings but she tries to act like it doesn’t.

If someone says the performance is “too urban” next I might actually cry.

Maybe it was a bad frame of reference, but it certainly wasn't intended as racist. I'm sure she's a great actor in other things, but her more modern accent certainly doesn't feel like it fits in the Star Wars universe to me. I'll try to remember that the word "rapper" is racist from now on.

I think the armour of one of the countless stormtroopers Obi Wan just mullered would have been more effective - than the Rolf Harris' man with three legs look.

But narrative logic isn't this shows strong point.

Put Leia in a stromtrooper outfit?
I think a 3 foot-high Stormtrooper in ill-fitting armour might be slightly more of an obvious disguise.

Yeah that’s clearly the take away from this, the word “rapper” is racist. I reiterate my “fucking hell”.

Sounds like a rapper/playing the character as a racial stereotype are simply not things people would say if she were white. It sounds like a way of dancing around saying something worse. That’s why it’s coming across as racist. It’s not the PC brigade saying you’re not allowed to sing baa baa black sheep any more.

Garwoofoo wasn’t the only person who read it that way.

I just don’t get which accents are supposed to be wrong for Star Wars anyway. Characters are from anywhere and everywhere and have a ton of different accents, so I find it odd that hers is being singled out. I know some people expect the baddies to be largely posh sounding imperial types, but this character could be a random force sensitive person they found or a survivor from a Jedi temple massacre etc. So I don’t really get what accent she’s supposed to have?

Of course that was a cheeky dig at how pathetic this conversation has become over race. It’s fucking ridiculous and no matter how much you might want to believe it, it wasn’t meant in any kind of racist way. I don’t really have time for this today, so I’ll leave you to it. You almost cracked it with your last paragraph as well.

RE: Leia and over-coat.
Their distraction is the choas happening around them, the Imperial officers and Stormtroopers are distracted by the explosions and shit like that.
They've also shown in almost every Star Wars thing to not give a fuck about anyone else but themselves when the shit hits the fan.
See also exploding Death Star and Luke just casually carrying Vader's almost dead body.
Anyways, can't believe I'm writing this.

The explosions didn't start happening until they were outside of the fortress - which means they walked until that point with Liea under a rain mac when the station was on alert for intruders.

Saying a black actor doesn't fit into Star Wars because they speak like a rapper is textbook unconscious bias. It would make sense as a criticism if she delivered her lines in the form of a rap, but she just speaks in an American accent. @JPL, you must accept that this shows a degree of bias in terms of what kinds of people you find believable in what roles.

The annoying thing about the mac is they could have easily come up with a less ridiculous way to escape

Off the top of my head

- have Indira Varma know about a maintance shaft (or research this when she is sitting at the console) which they can crawl out to the dock.

- hide Liea in a cargo box and wheel her out.

- Put her in cuffs use the old "we have orders to move the prisoner" line + Obi Wan using the jedi mind trick.

None of these are great but better than "hide her under my coat" as a clever escape gambit.

tbh I kinda like her voice and accent.

She was really good in the Leia interrogation and gave away a bit of background too when she said they took everything away from her.

Shes clearly going to have a redemption and then her own TV show…

The escape bit was fun. People forget Starwars is aimed at kids not man babies.

Yeah cutting Stormtroopers in half, torturing a guy in fire, snapping people's necks. Definitely aimed for kids.
