Jeff Bridges will be a retired CIA officer in a new FX drama. It comes from Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, co-creators of Black Sails.

Bridges is Dan Chase, who left the CA decades ago and now lives off the grid. Then an assassin tries to take him out and, I dunno, he uses his particular set of skills or something.

Hopefully it turns out well.

Jeff basically being the bad guy could be an interesting twist on the genre. Is it a one off or series?

It’s an 8 episode series (with the first two being shown together). Not sure if there is scope for more than one season. It’s based on a book I’m not familiar with.

Finally got to watch the first episode last night and loved it. Jeff Bridges is just so good isn't he.

The only issue I did have

Spoiler

what were the two dogs doing while Dan was taking a proper beating? Why didn't they attack the agent? It made no sense.

I also just saw that this is getting another season. I had assumed it was a limited series type thing. Hope they don't turn it in to some plodding over elaborated never ending story.

Really enjoyed the first ep.

The story is almost as daft as Seagal waking up from a coma and fighting his way out of a hospital but shows how far your goodwill can be stretched by decent acting and an interesting back story.

My guard is high for this to be drivel but I'm hoping for enjoyable drivel at the moment.

I'm glad to say I really enjoyed EPs 2 and 3

I'd be interested to know what it was about e2 that didn't ring true for you?

Several WTF moments:

Spoiler

when he almost got killed in the fight in episode 1 and just decided not to call the dogs for help. Why?

In ep2 he just decides to shack up with some woman and so easily lets his guard down after years of super precaution. Basically he’s a totally different character from the first 80% of episode 1.

I said above my guard was up on this, rightly so.

After ep1 it's really utter pish, we've seen all eps on Disney so far and it's just so bloody boring, will finish it now but won't be back if they make a second.

Should be called The Boring Old Man.

Yes, such a shame as the leads are good enough to carry even an average story and script. Unfortunartely 'average' was clearly beyond the creatives behind this show.

Yep, watched last ep just to finish it and in some way that being terrible helped seal how easy another season of this will be to ignore. The worst thing would have been something clever that got us interested, but fortunately they kept up the form of eps 2-6 and managed a thoroughly dull 50m of TV.
