Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! May 2021

Recommended Posts

Just announced at Comic-con for a May 2021 release. Scott Derrickson will return to direct with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising the title character. The film will follow on from the events of the TV series, Wandavision, which features Scarlet Witch. Derrickson said he wants this to be the first gothic, scary Marvel movie.

One of the intriguing things about this is that Wanda's presence suggests that her powers are based on magic, and not just telekinesis/telepathy induced by the Sufficiently Advanced Mind Stone.

Could it involve Strange training her, having seen what she can do in Endgame?

Bring on the hexes!

Not someone I know of.

He's fairly well known as a Dr. Strange villain but he regularly pops up all over the place. His most recent appearance was as part of the Avengers No Road Home event series. Apart from Dr. Strange he also fought the Hulk and the Defenders a bunch.

Dr Strnage 2 has lost it director.

Word was this was going to be horror-esq. Sounds like Marvel bottled it.

Put quips and smart-alec comments in. And a big battle with thousands of weightless cgi monsters and we're done.

Marvel shitting it at the thought of an R rated horror doesn't give me much hope for Blade.

It might be different for Blade and someone who has already been in the Avengers PG-13-ing it up.

(although, in the comics Blade is the one who is currently an Avenger, so could get fucked over)

It's a bit odd to expect Marvel's mainline characters to be R rated.  It's not as if the Marvel comics are generally equivalent to that.

Marvel did do an imprint called the Max line which was equivalent to R rated content.

And they're doing Immortal Hulk right now which gets even more gruesome than Carpenter's The Thing. It's as R as R can be. Not even on a separate imprint like Max, it's the mainline Hulk series that has been running since the sixties.

(It's also brilliant btw)

Yep one of the best things Marvel is producing next to the X-men at the moment.

Speaking of the Max imprint, if (and that's a humongous 'if') Marvel Movies is willing to do R, I would hope that they'd revisit The Punisher and do the character justice by doing an all-out adaptation of Punisher Max.

And if they do that, continuing Deadpool as it was at Fox shouldn't be a problem either.

It's a shame that they're chickening out on Darker Strange because apart from potentially being very cool, it would also set a great precedent for a proper MCU Defenders. Not that puny 'Jessica and her three Pussycats' thing that Netflix did, but O.G. Defenders - a series that's wonderfully absurd and at the same time darker than yer average Marvel team book.

It'll never happen, but I reckon hand it over to Richard Stanley.

Lol. It'll be given to some tv drone who'l make it the same as the other pictures. With quips.

Derrickson isn't that interesting a director anyway, but it's a shame as Dr Strange is one of the corners of the MCU that gets away from that house style flat, plain visual aesthetic, if nothing else. Hope that doesn't change.
