EFL Championship 2019/2020

Unexpectedly exciting end to the game!

Really hope Brentford make it, mainly to mix things up a bit, but also because Fulham have really underachieved this season and don't deserve it.

Cardiff arent out of it. If they get the first goal tomorrow then who knows.  Now we are beaten I dont care if they win.

I’m slightly more confident this morning than I was Monday night.

But, Fulham will really need to mess it up and then we’d just get taken apart by Brentford anyway!

I had £1 on 10/1 on us being in the lead at ten minutes :(

We are no worse off I guess - less time, but snatch another one and not immediately concede then who knows.

Oh well. Congrats to Fulham.

Fair play to us and the Jacks - we certainly gave two teams who got very close to automatic promotion a hell of a fight.

Thats 6 play off loses from 7 now for us. No depressing trip down the M4 though on a coach tonight.

That was legitimately horrible. We were pretty shit throughout. Unlucky @Ork1927, Cardiff couldn't have given any more and we just managed to hold out.

Next week is going to be genuinely horrible. Parker is starting to win me round in the way we ground out games but Tuesday aside I can't say it's a particularly enjoyable watch as a Fulham fan. The away game against Brentford we didn't turn up at all, and I thought we gave them a good game at the Cottage before just crumpling in the last 10. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

I dunno about Parker. With the team he has, he shouldn't need to grind out games. I think, with a decent manager, Fulham should have got automatic promotion. But the Championship doesn't work like that does it. So who knows?

As a Bees fan I am going into the final with a lot more hope following our 2nd leg performance against Swansea that I was following our preceding 3 games. We were back to our best in places.

However, this is The Richest Game In World Football® so it's got to reset to a 50/50 really. It's the right final considering we finished in 3rd and 4th place.

Having waited longer than any other team to return to the top tier (74 years) I of course want us to go up however given that we are in our new stadium next season, preparation time would be tight and I would likely be missing at least half the games due to Covid I would selfishly defer it a year if I could! Can't though and I know you have to grab the opportunity whilst you can so I'll cheer em on anyway!

I can't quite get my head around the concept of us being on Match of the Day and I think most neutrals would be up for a new team in the prem rather than a yo-yo club.

SO EXCITING.

Yeah, I'm not sure you can extrapolate much even from the performances immediately preceeding it with this game since there's so much on the line. It'll very likely be the most pressure any of these players ever has to deal with and will probably come down to how well they all respond, which is hard to predict. It's not surprising that it so often results in a dull, cagey game decided on a mistake, a bit of luck, a moment of magic.. Or penalties.

I’m fine with either team getting promo’d but favour Brentford as a good story - that said Fulham have their minted owner and were a bit of a basket case last time round so good for a laugh.

They’ll probably sack Parker if they go up and appoint Roberto Martinez.

Of course they will consider it but I am pretty sure the EFL have it tightly controlled in agreements as to when deductions need to apply based on when the infringements occur and loads of other factors.

I doubt a legal challenge would get anywhere.

Big piece on the Athletic about it - this is quite pertinent. Also Charlton can sue but the process has taken so longer the financial infringement Sheffield have been found guilty of didn't take place in the most recently finished season, but the 17-18 one. Should the points penalty be applied to that one then ?

Why does the points deduction apply to next season, not this one?

Rules around sanctions imposed for profitability and sustainability breaches are less explicit than those surrounding administration, for example, and the two scenarios are covered by completely different sets of rules in the EFL’s regulations. We’ve just seen Wigan Athletic relegated from the Championship after going into administration and being docked 12 points, which is the standard for any club who find themselves in that position. For financial breaches, though, the EFL’s regulations lay out a range of punishments that leave things wide open as to when a club get charged and that is at the independent disciplinary commission’s discretion.

In theory, Wednesday could have been hit with anything ranging from a slap on the wrist to a transfer embargo, a fine, a points deduction or even expulsion from the league, although the latter never seemed very likely. There is no requirement that any sanction relating to profitability and sustainability breaches should be imposed in the same season the charges were brought and this season has been an exception because it has been prolonged by the coronavirus pandemic. In a typical year, the day the verdict was announced (July 31) would have been close to the start of a new season. In Wigan’s case, the rules are much clearer and state that if a club enter administration during the season, the sanction will be imposed in that same season.

Very much looking forward to the play off today and cheering Fulham's return to the Premiership, but I'm quarantined and don't have sky. If anyone has a good place for a feed online, a share would be most appreciated.
