Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Breath of the Wild 2) 12th May 2023

Once I realised Elden ring was just a massive grind-fest for runes I gave up. Sure, there was new stuff to see purely due to the size of the thing, but the game barely changed from the first hour. Would’ve benefited from a small map, with more stuff crammed in it. I get why From zealots love it though.

Actually, yes!

There is changeable  weather in ER but I think the OP was referring to the BOTW weather bringing  'useable' gameplay features whereas in ER it is mostly cosmetic.

I'm just really happy to really like both BOTW and ER so don't need to waste too much time dissing one or the other but I guess both Nintendo and FROM do attract a certain type of do or die, us v them, fanboy.

Do they? I’m like you, in that I love them both. I can’t wait for BoTW2, although I reckon ER could well last me until it’s launched.

I realise you are simply doing your ever tedious thing and that I shouldn't humour it but I am 110 hours into ER and haven't needed to grind for runes at all as, instead of trying to force an upgrade, I just go and do something at my level instead. Of which there have been near limitless opportunities.

It's a game that can be played totally organically with zero need to grind or to frantically chase objectives unless you want to rush to the end but you know that. It also makes all other open world games, bar BOTW and very few others, look like the formulaic, hand holding, snooze fest that they all are and that is a significant element of why so many people, and all the critics,  are enjoying it so much.

'Zealots'. Amazing.

Controversial opinion. Maybe.

Bin off a BotW 2, produce a new ground up Zelda with some of the mechanics from BotW held over. As great as BotW is (and it is) I don't think I need a sequel to it, and I think a sequel can only disappoint against a game that is an all time great.

If the sequel is as good as Majora's Mask was to Ocarina of Time then I don't  think there'll be much to worry about really.

Other than a few hours of Bloodborne I don’t think I’ve ever played another From game and certainly none of the Souls games.

I’ve been playing computer / video games for almost 40 years and I genuinely believe that Elden Ring is possibly the best game I’ve ever played.

He’s doing his ever tedious thing and you bit. He wins. You’ve made him win.

I’d love them to do a 3D game with the mechanics of Link Between Worlds, although the bit in the trailer where Link goes through the platform could end up being similar to 2D wall mechanic from LBW.

For what little it's worth I thing the reason this got delayed was just because it wouldn't be ready this year. Not to coincide with a Switch Pro or get out of the way of Pokémon or any other grand strategy.

There is not enough PR/hype time between now and BOTW2 for a Switch Pro.

It makes sense for Nintendo to milk the current Switch for people wanting to play BOTW2, and then follow up with the Switch Pro after and release the 'upgraded' version of BOTW2 with a paid DLC pack, or something similar.

Can we just change the thread title to add ‘Delayed to Spring 2023’, y’know to save people having to watch the video?

Also second this. I'm surprised it took so long for someone to sum up the video.

And it will be magnificent.

The hype cycle for the Switch was tiny. First reveal video in October 2016, second video detailing launch plans in January 2017, release in March 2017.

Wow that is a short window - well fingers crossed then!

Somebody really should make an Elden Ring thread.

To be fair cross thread posts comparing stuff is fair game, I dont really have envy interest in Elden Ring as I have bounced of souls and blood borne but given these sort of posts and I’m tempted - the main thread is impenetrable!

Are we able to tell from the minuscule amount of footage if you’re able to transition from skyland to groundland (probably not the actual names) at will and without loading screens?

There's a caveat at the beginning of the trailer about game footage not being final. If the free falling transition is in the final game is seamless and has no loading I'd be surprised.

I really want to be excited for this but all the trailers so far have been dull cock-teases that do little to show off what's meant to be new and exciting here.

I'm sure we'll get a proper blow-out next year at some point but it's been a proper wet fart of a hype-building exercise to date, especially considering how excellent all of the BOTW trailers were.
