Knowing Nintendo; I’d be much more likely to believe that

we’re not getting MP4 this switch gen either are we???

If anything I expect that to become a "Switch Pro" launch title. Much better to launch with a specialised underdog than a guaranteed hit.

I was thinking maybe late 2023 at best, coinciding with a Switch 2. The most significant thing about this is that it looks like they plan on releasing a more powerful new Switch a bit earlier than I was expecting. Which is fantastic news.

It'll still probably end up late 2023.

This just means we are definitely getting that rumoured Wind Waker-Twilight Princess double pack this autumn.

Guaranteed. 100%. Absolutely going to happen at the E3 Direct.

and Metroid Prime Trilogy

I know its chalk and cheese but Elden Ring 80 hours in is still opening up new areas and places of utter wonder.

I just cant see how this could even come near it in terms of how the rules of the open world game have changed. I know Nintendo always deliver but still.

Super Switch Pro Spring 2023 release then, noice.

The amount of times I've almost bought a second Switch is absurd. It's probably sat in my cart on a couple of different sites. Need to keep second guessing myself until the Pro.

80 hours wouldn’t have begun to properly scratch the surface of BOTW’s world, so no reason to think 2 should be any different in that regard.

I'd be pretty pissed off if the Switch 2 came out next spring, when it feels like I've only just bought the OLED. I mean, I'd buy it, obviously, but I wouldn't feel good about it, especially if that one doesn't have an OLED screen, either.

But you have had fun with your current switch right ? And you could sell it if a new one comes out ?

I have friends that want a switch but keep saying they will wait for "the pro" .

We'll they have missed out on 5 years worth of great games.

Elden ring isn’t all that, not really sure what open world rules have changed? Even Far Cry 2 had a more interesting open world.

BOTW does open world better than Elden Ring

Far Cry 2 is the pinnacle of open world games, so of course it does. Even BOTW doesn’t belong in its rarified orbit.

Good to see they're scheduling some extra dev. time to add loftwings.

Remember when people said Nintendo was doomed at every announcement? Good times.

Nintendo are doomed obviously.

Also, with Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, they already have lined up two potential blockbusters for the end of this year.

Other things to play in the meantime: Kirby & The Forgotten World, Triangle Strategy, Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Advance Wars Re-boot & Elden Ring DLC.

It is still a shame though as I don't like Zelda games releasing in Spring. Since their initial release on the NES, they have always been the perfect Christmas game.

Maybe that's because you're being murdered every five to ten minutes?

Spoiler

I jest. I love Elden Ring, even if it hates me.

BotW is absolutely ace, but no it really doesn’t.

Elden Ring is chock full of discovery after discovery as well as lots of jaw dropping views and makes BoTW feel distinctly empty in comparison.

You can't climb the mountains though!

And there are no weather systems!

I really, really enjoyed  BOTW but never finished it as I ended up pissing about off the critical path until I became  bored.

Still put 80 odd hours into, probably more, but but never made it into the castle and only took down three, maybe only two,  of the Divine Beasts (IIRC). I should go back before the next one as it was a lot of fun but Elden Ring really has changed things as it just keeps on giving for so, so, long.

Controversial opinion. Maybe.

Bin off a BotW 2, produce a new ground up Zelda with some of the mechanics from BotW held over. As great as BotW is (and it is) I don't think I need a sequel to it, and I think a sequel can only disappoint against a game that is an all time great.

Actually, yes!

There is changeable  weather in ER but I think the OP was referring to the BOTW weather bringing  'useable' gameplay features whereas in ER it is mostly cosmetic.

I'm just really happy to really like both BOTW and ER so don't need to waste too much time dissing one or the other but I guess both Nintendo and FROM do attract a certain type of do or die, us v them, fanboy.
