Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Breath of the Wild 2) 12th May 2023

Even though it’s set in the same Hyrule with the same art style already I can only imagine the huge amount of game that will be in this.

There were 100+ shrines in BoTW, so they will all be different and based on the brand new game play mechanics, and that’s if they are there at all.

We still don’t know anything about dungeons or divine beasts, or the story bar the tiny amount revealed in the short trailers.

We know about the sky islands, and those alone look ridiculous and filled with possibilities, and it’s strongly hinted at a subterranean network of caves and caverns.

Combined with the recall and ascend abilities alone it breaks my brain just thinking about what we’re about to experience.

This does look really cool. I played botw on the Wii u and it's one of my favourite games ever.

I don't have a switch and won't be buying one just for this but I'm looking forward to watching some playthroughs and to see all the crazy stuff people do on it.

It does show that graphics arnt everything. This will be polished to high heaven and the scale on the trailer looked brilliant

I'd like every response to Jamie to include details of everything shown so far summarised into a neat unavoidable spoiler. All that hard work.

😱

I'm outta here.

I've just watched the gameplay video and holy shit I want this soooo bad!!!

My eldest really wants it too so that's two copies I need to buy... not even complaining, glad he's got such great taste!

I'm a bit out of the loop on this as I generally avoid knowing too much about this game, but wasn't it supposed to be £70? Most places seem to have it for £60 including digital and £50 on shopto?

I've bit the bullet.

Tomorrow I'll be recieving delivery of a v2 switch with Animal Crossing, Breath of the Wild and Pokémon Shield, also the little thing that lets you use the joy cons like a regular controller.

Described as used/like new from Facebook marketplace all for the princely sum of £190.

I'm not too bothered about the games (already rinsed Zelda on WiiU and loved it) so will be trading them in at CEX for £51 cash or £73 store credit, meaning I've basically got myself ready for the new Zelda and Metroid for roughly £130 🙂👍

I'm tempted to pick up Mario Odyssey (and some wee odd games that really demonstrate the motion tech in the joy cons) to keep me going until Zelda but kinda feel I'd be wasting my time and money as I'm a full time Xbox gamer at heart and I'll probably not get into them 🤔🤔🤔

What say you lot?

If you want to play it/them and you can afford it/them then buy them. Obviously Odyssey is a great game.  You know that. No one needs to tell you that.

But for saying you're an Xbox gamer at heart you should sell it and stick to your horribly processed love and never play TOTK.

I've never quite understood buying game-specific themed consoles or accessories.  Don't you feel like a mug playing a different game on it?

Depends on the design - I quite liked the platinum Zelda GC; the black/gold Zelda Wii U, and the Splatoon Pro controller for the Switch.

I guess that's why I bought 'em. Plus those consoles actually came with the game, which no longer seems to be A Thing.

Don't get me wrong, I was (and still am to a certain extent) a huge Nintendo fan right up until online play started to be a major source of gaming enjoyment, for me personally, and Nintendo just didn't seem to bother with that side of things too much 😔

I've owned all Nintendo and Sony consoles through the years but, if I'm honest, I ONLY bought them to play the exclusives I was interested in and then sold the consoles on.

Had a SNES, N64, Wii and WiiU and by far my favourite experiences were the Zelda, Metroid and Mario games - in that order. I've currently got a PS4 and am playing through The Last Guardian, Ghost of Tsushima and God of War but, when they've been enjoyed, I'll be selling it and probably pick up a used PS5 in a few years for the games I missed on that.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but it's a bit judgemental for you to dismiss me like that so I thought I'd better explain my reasoning 🤔🙂👍

It was really more wondering what you expected someone to say in response to whether you should play Mario Odyssey.

Does being an Xbox fan at heart make you more or less likely to like Mario?

Does the buying switch for some "princely sum" and selling games tell us if you like Mario?

You bother to tell us why you can sell some of your just acquired bundle of games but never whether you have played or liked s Mario game before. More important to know you like Xbox.

It's a stone cold classic. A passing knowledge of gaming and metacritic will tell you that. If you have even a passing interest in platformers then you should play it. Obvious really.

Dude, don’t worry about it. No need to explain your reasoning to anyone. 👍🏻 Odyssey’s quality and is a huge game, fantastic value for money. Definitely worth picking up and giving it a go. Highly recommend Super Mario 3D World/Bowser’s Fury too.

See some of my “crazy” ideas regarding TotK, actually turned out to pretty much be TotK! Hate to say I told you so but.......I told you so! 😁 I’m out until I’ve played it now. 👋🏼 Roll on May 12th!

@scottcr Hope your little lad absolutely loves it man. He sounds like a proper little dude!

I think the opposite is supposed to happen, but as I get older I care about how games look more and more. Obviously art direction is the most important aspect of this, but that includes framerate, resolution etc. and sometimes how limits there play into artistic decisions.

The game looks ok. I think all the contraptions and bulding shenanigans, and all the new traversal brings out issues in the graphics a bit more, for some reason. It did seem a bit rough after being used to other newer games. I would prefer an even more painterly look to cover up the limits, or maybe something else. But at least the framerate seems smooth and the draw distance is pretty good considering the hardware and all that is going on with the physics.

Sorry for a shallow post. I think we all agree the game is looking set to be fantastic, but may as well look like an idiot and agree with the lame article. 😄

fwiw my favourite looking games are Ico, Wind Waker, Okami and Silent Hill 2. All were a joy to play because of the graphical approach, and in some ways shaped by the limits of the hardware.

Anyone with even a passing interest in games should be excited about this, and should have already played BotW.

Doesn't matter about console preference - it's just a wonderful series that deserves your time, effort and money.
