Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Breath of the Wild 2) 12th May 2023

Been looking at some Twilight Princess cutscenes to tie a few things up and found this........

There is a scene with Zant and Midna, in which he tries to tempt her. He talks about the tribe of the Twili and how they were banished from the light of Hyrule. How the Twili must bring Light and Dark together to stamp out the light itself. He then says to her.......

”I need you. For all of our people. YOU MUST LEND ME YOUR POWER”.

Coincidence? I think not! Big clue as to what is going on in TotK.

Some other stuff from looking at TP cutscenes. No idea how people have missed this......

Zant bends over backwards just as Ganondorf is doing in the Trailers. Zant also twists his head so he is upside down. Again, just as we see Ganondorf doing in the trailers. A little tune seems to play backwards when going into the Twilight Realm like the music playing backwards in the trailers.

Like I originally mentioned it looks like Link has a Twili’s arm, possibly Midna’s, which contains her power and was sealing Ganondorf. Again, everything is pointing to TotK going big with the Twilight Princess stuff, and a fucking epic battle between the Dark World and an almost beaten Light World. The full force of Zant and Ganondorf vs a Link that is utterly up against the odds and in a desperate situation. With stuff seen in the latest trailer, it seems to give a lot away in terms of how the world will change. Does make me wonder if there might be some kind of Time Travel mechanic similar to Majora’s Mask? Or are we maybe seeing 2 versions of Hyrule? Could the Green Spirals i assumed would be jumping points to the Sky Islands, be portals to travel between Light Hyrule and Twilight Hyrule? I'm certainly getting the impression that the Kingdom is pretty much finished in some of the footage, with just a tiny handful of areas left that are safely sealed from evil. Doesn't look much fun to wander around in and the building vehicles stuff just doesn't fit with it at all.

Some other immediately noticeable stuff in the new trailer - some of the enemies look reminiscent of Zant and his Snake armour. The “robot snakes” BOTW tech that surround Link, are depicted in Zant’s Domain in Twilight Princess. The dark Hyrule in TotK looks a lot like the Twilight Realm. with all light completely blocked out. In Twilight Princess the characters of Hyrule are turned into floating blue souls.......and we see similar floating blue souls in TotK trailer.

The more i look at stuff, the more this game just looks fucking mindblowing, in terms of how crazy it all seems and the technical stuff its doing on the Switch. Like people were saying, this shit wouldn't be in real time, but it looks like it is! Link is literally flying around Islands, Skydiving etc with the whole of Hyrule on show that you can fly down to below. Mental!

Just watched most of that vid, but he doesn't seem to be piecing everything together, more just analysing the stuff on show. I think i've got most of the main theme for the story down and some solid ideas of how it will impact gameplay, to add to the ones i've already mentioned. Some of it is highly likely, some of it is pretty nuts, but would have good potential. Its Nintendo though, so i wouldn't be surprised if some of the more unlikely ideas actually make it in there!

Will have a look at the new trailer properly when i get chance and maybe add my take on any important bits. From the quick look yesterday, i'd say Zelda definitely asks the Gods to give Link her power. I think his hand has been infected by evil. I also think the evil voice shouting "everyone must be killed" or whatever is Zant, not Ganondorf as everyone is assuming! I think its possible the Sacred Realm in the Sky has been invaded, which ties into Zant and Ganon's whole story and there is a giant battle between Dark and Light going on. One thing that stood out in the Trailer for me was the Green Block falling at the end. Reminds me of Manna from heaven. Or Tears from heaven. That ties into what i was mentioning earlier in the thread about the green magic/tears being a source of energy and why Link has vials full of it on his hip.

His analysis focussed on gameplay elements and mechanics, geographical changes, technical aspects etc. as much if not more than the story and lore, but he does delve deeper into that as well, he’s talked about Link’s hand, for example.

I’ll spoiler this for those going in blind who wish to know nothing.

Spoiler

The character being resurrected in the trailer, and the initial reveal, is Ganondorf, it leaves little room for doubt.

A theory I have seen is that Ganondorf is sealed away in that tomb by Gerudo goddesses, and the statue figure surrounded by the 7 ‘tears’ we see in the trailers is the one holding Ganondorf down, who passes on her powers to link by possessing his right arm. Sorry if you have covered that already, I can’t remember!

Looked at a few vids now and they’re good but I think he’s off with a lot of stuff. He also doesn’t really say much that isn’t already obvious just from watching the trailers themselves.

Obviously that is Ganondorfs corpse! It’s not spoiling anything it’s openly in all the trailers. However, in Twilight Princess, Zant breaks his own neck, it cracks and it kills Ganondorf. In the trailer Ganondorf’s neck cracks when he comes back to life which implies Zant’s neck is unbroken too and thus Zant is back. That is how Ganondorf is being revived. Ganondorf’s head is upside down just as Zant turns his head upside down, and Ganondorf is bent over backwards just as Zant bends over backwards. Zant is a Twili and the King of the Twilight Realm. He has power to alter and manipulate reality. Ganondorf/Ganon is directly linked with Zant, the Twilight Realm and the forces of evil.

Link’s new hand/arm is a Twili arm. The first trailer shows what appears to be Midna - the Twilight Princess sealing Ganondorf’s corpse. We also see what appears to be Midna saving Link. The amount of Twilight Princess stuff loaded into this is crazy, I’m not sure why people aren’t seeing it? It’s even on the cover of the box! Zant and Ganon’s aims were to conquer Hyrule and invade the heavens. Which seems to be what’s going on in TotK. The Twilight Realm is rising, Ganondorf is rising and together they are almost unstoppable. It all seems to tie in with BotW lore too.

Yeah it sounds like you’ve given it a lot of thought, what about the Gerudo goddesses, do you think that theory is accurate? Certainly makes sense that they would have sealed Ganondorf away - and that the 8th statue is hidden away in Breath of The Wild, mirroring the goddess who is still there in the tomb keeping Ganondorf from resurrecting.

IGN UK Deals on Twitter is a good place to keep an eye on for this if the shopto sells out

Thanks for this - not only did I manage to get one of these, but it also bought to my attention that due to me cancelling the Pokemon double pack last year and the weird way that ShopTo deal with cancelling pre-paid pre-orders, I had a chunk of 'credit' lying around on my account which I could put towards it. Good times :)

This has got me hyped. Gone back to botw to mop up the quests I never finished. My word - it's such a brilliant game.

I should probably play Link To The Past and Links Awakening seeing as I haven't played either and have them both on Switch...

Maybe I should try one of those Warriors games as well... Hmm..

I'm enjoying how vague and comparatively secretive the trailers for this have been in comparison to Breath of The Wild. Kind of reminds me of how 'out of nowhere' Majora's Mask felt when I played it compared to Ocarina of Time, which had in-depth coverage wall-to-wall in various magazines leading up to launch.

I’m not into all the lore and stuff, just watched the trailers and read some stuff on Zelda Wiki about the characters, plus what story I can remember from playing the games, which is not much!

As far as I’m aware the Gerudo don’t have Gods, and there’s nothing in the trailers that ties into the Gerudo, other than Ganondorf and the 100yr rebirth/cycle. In Twilight Princess I’m pretty sure Ganondorf gets banished to the Twilight Realm and he’s last seen with Zant who kills him. The arm on Ganondorf’s chest, clearly looks like that of a Twili. It’s removed and that arm/magic then seems to be transferred to Link who then has Twili markings spreading up his arm and into his chest.

As far as I can tell, TotK will be about the lost tribes, one of them being the Twili/Interlopers and how they tried to conquer Hyrule and the Sacred Realm, and claim the Tri Force, using powerful magic but were banished to the shadows. To me, being banished to the shadows without light, implies they’re underground. This would give Nintendo a whole wealth of stuff they could bring back from older games. I just like speculating what Nintendo’s big new idea is going to be really, like when everyone was doing it with Mario Sunshine and Flud.

I think Nintendo have done a great job with the trailers. A masterclass in keeping people interested and guessing, whilst also leaving plenty of room for big reveals and massive surprises!

@Stanley Cheers for posting that! Really cool and shows how much detail there is in the BotW world that you don’t even notice.

Could have some relevance to TotK but I’m not really seeing how at this point. Definitely still think the Twilight Realm stuff - interlopers, Twili, Midna, Zant and how that relates to BotW and the Zonai etc is pretty much a given at this point. I’m most interested in Link’s new arm really. It looks Twili. Is it something to do with Midna? Is it infected and sealed? Does Princess Hylia give Link his abilities or are the abilities Midna’s etc? There’s so much going on in the trailers it’s nuts, and so many possibilities. I keep changing my mind and got loads of ideas for potential gameplay and how things might work.

I’ve not felt excited for a game like this since I was a kid. Literally cannot wait to start playing and discover everything it has to offer. Think I’m going to book some days off just to play the fuck out of it at launch! 😂

Talking about the launch.......do Nintendo allow you to pre-download stuff? What is the size of the game in GBs likely to be? My internet is shite and I want to make sure I’m on this asap when it comes out. Bit eager! 🤣

@Mr Do 71 Cheers for posting that mate, its good to know. It'll probably take the best part of a day to download on my connection.

So can you pre-download stuff on the Switch, or is it no TotK for me on launch day?

So, looks like playable Zelda might turn out to be a thing then. I had that idea early on, linked to the Twilight Realm, but didn't think it would pan out too well. I really hope this doesn't mean some kind of online co-op.

I’ve done the maths and this is a 25.8% increase in size. This means - and although there’s no evidence this has been scientifically proven - that Tears of the Kingdom will be 25.8% better than the first one.
