Also, Demise, has to be Demise in that trailer, the first reveal.

I thought it was at first - but I don't think it is now... If Demise was in it, Fi would be as well - as it would mean he'd escaped from the Master Sword.

Hey, it’s me again! Lol.

Sooooooo, I’ve noticed something else that no-one seems to have considered. As I was saying, I’m just finally finishing up BotW and needed to change my gear for one of the EX Trials. Taking a look at the Helmet’s, Zant is already referenced in the BotW world as you can wear his Helmet, just as you can Midna’s, so it’s pretty clear Nintendo has had plans for them in the BotW/TotK stories right from the start. Pretty cool!

Also 60fps, better draw distance and mods if you so desire.

I wonder if that might be double-edged through sparsity because of the skyworld?

And it's designed down to the Switch with artistic care, leaving modders struggling to build on what isn't there without compromising attentive compromises! Switch 2 would've been the best answer.

Good point, increased draw distance can be turned off.

I can’t imagine playing Tears Of The Kingdom in any other way than on the hardware it was designed for. Nintendo will have pored over every pixel, the movement and animation will be tied with the frame rate, the world drawn to take advantage of the resolution etc. etc.

I watched the 8K RT video someone posted in the PC thread and thought it looked absolutely terrible. I think they’ve messed with it to make it look overly saturated, but as you say, it all just looks totally off. Textures and geometry that was never intended to be seen in 8K and looks all the worse for it.

I am concerned about this being limited by the Switch’s performance but that’s down to what they can do with the world and the framerate. I didn’t have a problem with how the first game looked.

Glad I'm not the only one! It's one of the issues I have with most mods for games that affect visuals - they're done by people who have almost no idea of artistry and do it because they think it looks...erm...'rad'.

Zelda BotW looks amazing, and all I want from it is it to be slightly smoother and at a native 4k resolution.

And on a Switch, as opposed to fucking about on my PC.

But even if it never happens, I'll always take the game on an original Switch first before emulation.

Easy enough. I don’t bother with anything beyond resolution, frame rate and LoD myself. But the options are there for those who want something different and weren’t blessed with a sense of taste.

And on a Switch

lol

I will buy this and play the fuck out of it on the switch. And then sometime later I’ll come back once it’s emulated faithfully and play it again with a frame rate that cannot be counted on most peoples digits.

At some point Nintendo will have to release a Switch replacement, and if like the machines from Sony and MS it offers enhanced BC I’m sure it’ll suddenly be OK to prefer an enhanced version of the game. 😉

I think my thoughts on the matter is that an enhanced version of any game is all good if it's done by the people who had a hand in the original. Of course, this sometimes goes horribly wrong, but - by and large - I'm much happier knowing that any upgraded version of a game has been done by people who at the very least had access to original code, people etc who worked on the originals.

Obviously, knowing Nintendo and how they like to shit the bed every other generation the likelihood is that we'll not see anything remotely like the Switch and backwards compatibility will all need to be paid for yet again.

Because...well...Nintendo.

Well yeah hopefully, and hopefully they’ll use the same lightness of touch they did when they remastered Skyward Sword.

BoTW ran at mostly a solid 30fps didn’t it, and it was more than fine, even the slowdown bits, stopped no one from thinking it’s the best game ever made.

I’m excited to see TOTK and Nintendo yet again showing everyone else how it’s done on hardware only a fraction as powerful as what’s seen as standard these days.

They have the original textures so can probably release ones which look better and thus entirely justify them charging you once more for a game you already own.

I’ll play this on Switch OLED. I’m pretty sure pirated emulated switch games run at the original frame rate anyway if you put them on your steam deck. At least initially. Plus, if you yarr this game Reggie comes out of retirement to haunt you in your dreams.

The Wii U BOTW has seen some rather amazing work go into it, mind.

I just don't have the attention span to finish these things any more. I remember finishing A Link Between Worlds and thinking that I was absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the game and it finished exactly when I was ready for it to. RE4 VR was the same a few days ago - brilliant game and wrapped up in a smidge over 20 hrs.

The release date for this is terrible - are we really all going to spend June and July inside?

You might, but I'll be outside, frolicking in the hills of Hyrule.

I do: I found its graphics gently depressing. I think its world being so quiet at the same time added to its melancholy. Though occasionally I felt this fit a location's mood really well, in particular the Ancient sites.

Even the sunniest area in Akkala had vibes of a caravan holiday in Morecambe, but saturation mods aren't the answer. Team ICO remakes perfectly illustrate why, except those games were designed to be lonely. Was this? Because I feel it's an unfortunate side effect of weak hardware imposing a misty, low draw-distance artstyle. Like everything's under the influence of Lost Woods.

But then hardly anyone else seems to have a problem with it, so it's not a commercial worry.

I won’t labour the point too much otherwise I’ll upset somebody. That’s all good to play on original Switch hardware but when Tears of Kingdom is emulated it will be literally the same exact game as the native switch version which you can play vanilla so not to break anything or at a more stable frame rate, 60fps, boost res, frame rate mods etc.

The other thing with emulation is that I don’t want to be playing a 70+ hour game and have something break half way through, or to have any jank that distracts me from the game itself.

Emulation has come a long way and getting better.  I’ve played 100hours plus and not encountered any issue and that’s with 60fps although one mission requires a button press to switch to 30frames temporarily.  If I wanted to play vanilla with no “Jank” I can play vanilla mode but with a locked 30fps.  For the record I own BOTW and will buy TOK.
