Ha, maybe, but there was a video I saw ages ago, someone fighting Ganon or maybe one of the other bosses, and just pausing the game to literally eat 80 apples or whatever to heal themselves back to two full rows of hearts!  I think that kind of healing makes the game a little too easy and actually negates the idea of cooking/preparing for battle, imo!

I'd agree with that, but I do really dislike the game running around you when you're in the menus.  I understand why, in always on-line type games like Dark Souls, etc, but I'd hate to see this adopted in pure single player games too.  It's too stressful!

A much better solution would be to not allow you to apply buffs, eat food etc within the menu itself.  If you go in the menu to eat an apple, then it cues up that action and once you leave the menu the character performs the 'eat apple' action, at the next available opportunity.

I depends whether you think of the inventory as a menu or part of the game. I prefer to do that kind of management with the game still running, and perhaps have the interface not take up the entire screen so you can see a little of what's going on around you, as it makes going into those UI-heavy screens less immersion-breaking. Metal Gear Solid V had some pretty intensive realtime management screens - that game did it perfectly. The only time the game ever paused was when you were in the actual pause menu.

You'd need a better quick inventory system, though.

I think being able to replenish your health in the menus is an elegant way of implementing difficulty levels, for those that are not as proficient at the game sure go ahead and munch 80 apples. There are also those who will leave the plateau and defeat Ganon with just a stick. That both methods exist together is great design.

I'm avoiding reading this thread as I want to avoid all information, which is not something I'm normally bothered about.

However, I must remember to book the week off work for this tomorrow. At 49 years old that feels a bit silly, but if it's not worth doing for a follow up to what I consider the best game ever made then I don't know when it ever will be.

Totally worth doing and let’s be honest, the older you get there always seems to be more to do and less time to play games, so time off is so precious!

IMO the only solid information we'll get between now and launch will be a proper trailer in the next Nintendo Direct...unless there are any events scheduled where people can get hands-on experience? I haven't heard of any.

No kids here. Very little (and I mean very little) social life. Strict 37.5 hour working each week and all from home so there’s no commuting time.

I still don’t have anything like the free time that I want to do fun things and don’t know how people with more commitments than me manage.

The sad thing is I just think you get tired more quickly as you get older too. I’m really strict with my sleep and fitness too, so there’s that. I rarely go out socialising now but somehow the time is eaten up with one thing or another, and I only work 4 days now. I can still pack in a good few hours gaming though if I plan it right so I’ve no complaints, but the days of pulling an all nighter are way in the past for me

this is me... by the time the kids are in bed and I've sat down to play a game on the big screen, I'm usually to tired to start something...  I'd have finished XC3 weeks ago a few years back.

I don’t actually know how I completed XC3 but I absolutely caned it over three of four weeks. I suppose if a game is that good I will find the time.

I *did* manage to put 150 hours into Elden Ring before I realised I was wasting my time and the game hated me.
