So if BOTW was released in March 2017 - when did we start to see in-depth gameplay videos from Nintendo?

There was a massive blowout at E3 2016 where BOTW was literally the only game they showed off and they dedicated their whole event to it. So about 9 months before release.

The good BotW trailer was out about 2 months before the game, maybe Jan 8th 2017, so I guess or rather hope Nintendo will be doing the same thing.

For now you have a bit of gameplay and a release date, they'll focus on their Xmas schedule for now with a blowout around next March maybe.

With regards to the name, if you think about the title Breath of The Wild it ties into the gameplay, the wind system and the open world. Tear can be read two ways, the titular kingdom we see that is literally torn apart and fractured, and tears perhaps something to do with rain, although BOTW has weather too, but perhaps it’s more meaningful in this. Obviously it could mean something else, such as crystals, a prominent feature in Zelda, but I doubt it’s just some random name, there will meaning behind it not solely to do with the story.

I dunno, none of that was in the compendium.

The E3 2021 trailer showed Link diving up into the sky islands via a pool of water which forms into a tear-like thing then shoots up into the sky, like a reverse droplet

I’ve read a couple of articles offering deep dived (and occasionally unhinged) analysis into the new trailer. They’ve talked about what the name could mean but none of them mentioned this bit!

Can’t believe it’s been 5yrs since BOTW.

I would expect a ground up sequel in that time not an expansion pack.

Hopefully the scope has combined considerably and this isn’t another majora mask/skyward sword situation.

It is a full blown sequel (prequel maybe?).

Also, which Zelda was Skyward Sword an expansion pack for?
