FYI, you can change weather mid-flight.

Yeah, but that would have been cheating...

(I probably would have done it if Pembrey visibility was too bad to land)

So Series S - clean 1080p, no upscale (probably why it still looks crisp to me)

Series X - 1440p upscaled to 4k and more LOD stability.

Both 30fps

secret setting if you have your console set to 120hz it plays the game with an unlocked frame rate but you need VRR or Freesync ability

For those that have a Series X, can you set the resolution to output at 1440p (on a 1440p monitor obv) and have this game run in native resolution? In fact can you run all games at 1440p?

Still trying to decide whether to pick up a Series S for this or wait until I can get my hands on a Series X. Only got a 1080p TV and a 1440p (non gaming) monitor with no plans to upgrade in near future.

There is an option on the dash on the x to set to 1440p

The system can totally output at 1440p but the internal resolution in this game will be 4k, just downsampled. Some games do have a 1440p mode.

I think ps5 has problems with 1440p support but no such issue on Xbox.

Ah so this games doesn't have a 1440p mode on either Series S (upscaled) or X (native)?

I have this a go earlier and flew over my house and around New York. I did ok initially but then got a bit too clever and flew into the Empire State building.

Looking forward to playing about with it a bit more. It absolutely crippled my PC, so it’s quite impressive to see it play so well on Series S.

Series X has better draw distance, if that helps?

You get flight simulator rendered at 1440p , upscaled to 4k and output at 1440p presumably.

It’s all down to price and availability really.

There are other benefits to the series x but it didn’t really bother me because it won’t be my main console.

London is just gorgeous isn’t it?

(Corner of Baker Street and Marylebone Road. Basically where I work, they’ve not got the new Taco Bell signs up on one of the buildings but the accuracy is incredible. I can’t think of a game that would have impressed 90s me more than this one.)

It's probably already been mentioned but make sure you turn the high resolution texture streaming and photogrammetry on in the options. I'd forgotten about it and wondered why the Everest flight looked crap, it was a night and day difference with it on!

Followed the invert guide but it's still not working for the outside view camera.

Didn’t work for me either, can’t believe that in this of all games you can’t invert the camera. Just can’t adjust to it at all.

How do you do this? I checked ‘general options’ but there are only options to turn photogrammetry on or off.

If anyone has figured out how to invert the external camera, I’d be grateful for a shoutout too.

I’ve still not managed to download the full 40GB of the patched PC version.

Even with a reinstall of the game and windows

…!

I should probably have just bought netlimiter.

Took me the best part of twelve hours to DL the patch.

Ludicrous, but the performance gains are REAL! Even if all I do now it  just potter around in my 60mph winged skeleton plane (with two gauges) so have no real need for the smooth...

I have always had my camera on whatever the default is (which, I think, is an inverted cam?) and have not found it to be a problem at all. If it were any other way I'd be looking to change it!

Is there any way to set the altitude when you start a free flight from the world map?

Climbing takes forever and I would just like to start above the clouds. 🙂

Yes.

When plotting your route on the map screen you will see a box named 'NAVILOG' in the top right. Click on that and there will be a box showing whatever altitude the flight will start at (used to be 7500ft on PC but post patch is now a ridiculous 16,500ft). Change that to whatever height you wish to begin the flight at (hint: the best height is 2-4,000ft). Sorted.

I'm not playing at the moment but from memory the options were under the data settings of general options I think. I accessed them from the in game pause menu. Everest area was just covered Iow res white snow with them off, lots more rock detail with the settings on.
