I wouldn't be able to play this game on my old ISP. 30gb update and then 50gb in the game itself. It looks like it's downloading most of the world updates again? I mean, sure, they get improved, but no incremental updating? The whole back end of this game is absurd, when you think about it.

The A310 that comes with this looks very promising, sounds like they’ve partnered with iniBuilds who make excellent detailed payware aircraft. A big step up from the default a320 that came originally.

Hurry up and give me my internet Virgin!!

there were videos from Asobo when this came out going into some of the huge legacy technical debt they suffer with, IIRC the in game cockpits were all built in some old legacy web browser they'd picked up from the previous version.

once you're up in the air its such a beautiful game, but agree the back end, update methods and UI are a mess.

It can be such an obtuse game.

Added helicopters (yay), puts a NY flight on the main menu to get you going (yay) then sticks you in a copter with not a word of instruction and those swirly air visualisation lines all around the bird which I couldn't work out how to turn off.

It can be the most infuriating relaxing game.

Yo dawg, I heard you like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, so we put older versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 so you can flight sim while shit that doesn’t work.

Anyway, there’s an Easter egg in the 40th anniversary update whereby you can play older versions of the game on the dashboard of the Diamond DA62:

Pretty cool! Would be even better if you could play them full screen, but it’s a lovely touch nonetheless.

You’ve been able to do pretty much exactly this since day 1, just “flying” the drone camera at ground level with a pad. Operates entirely as a first-person walking sim.

In fact, I did exactly what he’s doing at Courchevel well over a year ago.

Had a quick play last night via Cloud Gaming which works really well and I had the entire world at my disposal, so where did I go? The Pyramids, The Great Wall of China, Vegas, Everest?

No, I decided to fly my commute to work, what is actually wrong with me?

Man, I always fly around over my own area. You're not alone. 😄

Nice looking smaller flightstick coming from Turtle Beach. I love the Velocity controller but sometimes for a quick blast it's a faff setting up. This looks pretty sweet. It's due out the 17th November and as of today (20th Oct) a discount code, jondenton works for 10% discount.

Did anyone give this a go after? I had a session last night, lovely helicopter flight around Manhattan, and I started the flight training for landing. But it's way too twitchy for anything other than casual flights on the pad. I'm an old school DOS flight sim nut and it was kinda frustrating trying to do what the instructor asked. Can't justify a yolk but I can see a stick getting decent use, plus in other games that support it.

I've a hottas x and even then it's tricky. Are you using the assists (I assume you are as the pad is really difficult to use) with the assists off on the hotas you need to setup your trim and use it to smooth out the inputs.

Are you on Xbox or PC?

I've tried both but the hottas didn't really work on my series X.

Hmm, bummer. I'm on Series X. I assume (hope!) the assists are on, as I've never manually adjusted trim, but whatever I fly does tend to drift so who knows. May have inadvertently turned them off. What about hotas + assists on? I appreciate i won't really recreate my ancient PC setup but I would like to get through the tutorials without it being a chew.

That Turtle Beach thing looks like it'd be fine I think. I have a full HOTAS but I don't use half the buttons, possibly because I badly need to print out a diagram reminding me what they all do, a slightly simpler option ought to be fine for most stuff.

I grabbed one and it's a lovely piece of kit, bar the ring for accessing menus, which feels a bit cheap. But everything else feels great/ Not had a chance to try it with helicopters yet, but I'll try it later and let you know.

Anyone looking for a fun and really wonderfully modelled (in terms of systems and flying feel) I heartily HEARTILY recommend the Milviz C310R plane. It’s a twin engine prop and flies like a dream, has a huge level of depth in systems, failures etc, and is just huge fun to fly. Looks cool too
