Deathloop

Looks interesting, and the fact that it's from the same people who made Dishonored makes it automatically more interesting. I like how it seems to feature two black protagonists, too, one of whom is a woman. Makes a difference from the surly white guy clones we seem to always get in these types of games.

We don't know, but at least it will have Arkane's quality level design and immersive sim style gameplay, going by this blurb

Quote

DEATHLOOP” transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

Got a feeling this will be something where you have a specific objective to meet and another player will try to stop you and vise versa; could be very fun and I imagine it's been focussed on 2 players so you can properly get into the whole cat and mouse antics of it all.

Do we know it’s multiplayer? Perhaps it’s single player and you alternate roles after each death until each character unearths enough info to break the loop. Could be interesting trying to kill your own former (and soon to be again) avatar.

After the very interesting E3 reveal last year, or whenever it was, I thought this looked a bit meh, to be honest. It reminded my of We Happy Few, and the gameplay looked very similar to what we've already seen from other Arkane games.

I guess it comes down to home much you like Arkane gamplay then! Personally I loved Dishonored and Prey, so I'm definitely looking forward to this one - and it looks far, far more like the former than it does the latter.

That said, the new gameplay trailer did feel like it lacked a bit of punch. Perhaps the original trailer was carried more by the Boga track than I thought?

If it's about finding the perfect "line" through a level after learning from each death, it could be quite compelling, as long as the sequences don't stretch on for too long. In a weird way it makes me think of the Hotline Miami or Katana Zero philosophy - in those games everything kills you in one hit but enemy/object placement is generally the same each time, and each death is just more knowledge. :)

I'm really excited by it, thought that second trailer was ace. I liked both Dishonoured games a lot but was never a fan of how they gave you loads of cool/fun abilities, and then made you feel guilty for using them by giving you limited recharge items and telling you off for kills. This looks much more like it'll be leaning into restarting/chaining cool shit together, which sounds great to me.

Really liked the look of this and it’s great news that Arkane are still being given the budget to do their thing after the unfortunate weak sales of their last few games.

I’m quite surprised it’s a timed PS5 exclusive. Game Pass has been a good home for all the immersive sims that underperformed this generation so I thought Microsoft might have been the more likely to secure exclusive deals for that type of game.

DISAPPOINTED. Fucking timed exclusive on PS5 & PC.

Love Arcane, but there is literally nothing in that trailer that makes me interested in the game. It seems very action oriented (not necessarily a bad thing) and without soul or charm.

PvE asymmetrical multiplayer? Kinda like Spies versus Mercs versus Everyone?

Either that or it's SP and you play as both characters.

From what I understand it works like the Souls games - ie, a player may invade you. That player takes the role of that woman hunting you, otherwise she's AI controlled. You can also play completely offline if so desired, it works either way. But just like Souls, Arkane sees the tension of the main enemy doing unexpected stuff due to the human player element as a key part of the experience.

Tbh, that sounds cool but the trailer leaves me completely cold. And I'm a huge fan of Arkane's games.
