Artistically I think the game is really impressive, much better than Namco's usually somewhat cheap looking anime RPGs.

Yeah there is way more detail in the environment than in typical Tales RPGs. The only thing that stands out to me is the character mouths though- they’re all incredibly basic and postbox-like, especially considering everything else. I’m assuming they only did the lip syncing for the Japanese voices, since it looks terrible for English, but it’s more the way the mouths move/look.

I've put in about 22 hours since friday evening and I love the game. I switched to maining Rinnwell after a while. Initially she's a bit dull but once you get enough AG points and a bunch of stuff unlocked she's a monster. She's also pretty handy to have an overview of the entire battle since she's long range for the most part.

Also don't sleep on the sidequests. A number of them unlock skill lines to put points into (You can see which ones they are from the skill points page).

Toptip. Took me a while to figure this out. Push left on the dpad for quests. Select a quest and press x to show you the map it's on (Assuming you've been there).

I have one question. The Spirit temple quest. I went in there but was permenantly in combat mode which I'm  assuming is a bug?

It's a bit weird and might be a bug, but that's how it was for me as well and it's certainly finishable in that state.

There is a bit of lore that might explain it, or it might just be a bug.

Spoiler

The entire temple is a Zeugle.

I read that it was a way of getting levels at endgame but I couldn't get out and the fights were getting higher and higher level. In the end I just let a bunch of level 61 mobs kill me. If that is how it's supposed to work it might need more tutorialising.

Being playing this for some hours now. Got it on PC and used the ini settings for eliminating pop up (there’s one for NPCs now as well). Man, what difference does it make to see the world solid. A very beautiful game.

I am surprised at how nice the world building is and the ideas around it seem well thought out. Huge amounts of banter between characters which makes everything much more immersive.

I am going back and forth between Japanese and English VO. I prefer Japanese but there’s so much context banter that I have to read during play that it will be a mess when more characters appear. Any thoughts?

Also, it’s buttery smooth at 1440p maxed out and the combat is really great (when you understand what’s going on).

This is the only JRPG i've played where i have the voices set to English, for the exact reason you mentioned - the frequent 'pop-up' banter between your characters which would be distracting and easily missable if you had to stop and read the translation text everytime.

Luckily the voice acting is decent enough and i've adjusted to it now.

Man the cringe is real. Am in the second zone now, it’s gets worse and worse. Just witnessed that monologue, fecking hell 🥴

Game is great, the cringe isn’t.

Yeah, I'm glad I gave this a miss now. Clearly not a game for me. Does it also do the thing where characters just communicate though grunts and sighs?

No not really, I wouldn't write it off so easily the combat is fantastic, prob the best of the new breed of action based JRPG combat systems.

No not really.

You’re kidding right? This puts FF7 Remake to shame, the sheer amount of sighs and grunts boggles the mind.

On top of that, characters do not shut up. Imagine 4 character during combat yelling out all their attacks individually overlapped by random phrases they like to yell.

Also, why does a simple “kill 7 enemies” quest pick up come with 40 dialogue boxes where characters say complete invaluable nonsense.

Combat is fun, it can look gorgeous (in third zone now, wow). Everything else so far of mediocre at best. How this reviewed so extremely well is a mystery to me.

What he said was 'Does it also do the thing where characters just communicate though grunts and sighs? ' Which is doesn't, they do go on a bit tho dialog wise, but it's talking mostly not grunts.
