E3 2019 | Hype Train / General Chat / Down With This Sort Of Thing

So this popped up in the Xbox thread:

and really took me by surprise. I mean, I knew the Xbox conference was on the 9th but it still seems to have snuck up on me somehow.

What’s odd is this is the first year since I’ve known what E3 is that I’m pretty much free to watch it all. It’s always been during school or uni exams, and since I finished uni, has been smack bang in the middle of Ramadan so I haven’t been able to pay that much attention to it.

There also don’t seem to be that many threads on here in the lead up to it. Is it because the gen is winding down or because Sony aren’t pitching up? Or something else?

So is it just me or is the run up E3 quite subdued this year?

Without Sony around, a lot of stuff will likely be concentrated in the Microsoft conference, which has a healthy thread and people are excited for. The Ubisoft and other conference threads often arrive late. Do we have people who do them every year still? Didn’t I help last year? Should I be doing this now?!? Oh goooood

I'm excited. Excited to see what Microsoft have got to offer, especially with their new console. They simply can't afford to fuck up again, so their new Xbox has to be the best fucking console ever released. I'll be even more excited if Bethesda show us what Arkane Studios (Team Dishonored) have been up to.

Can't wait to see Animal Crossing, and hopefully a new Wave Race game.

I seem to recall someone did a megathread with all the conference times and what not last year. I think it might have been VN1X.

I believe @Robo_1 is the king of E3 threads!

I only have a PS4/PSVR, so I'm personally not interested in E3 this time around. Weren't Sony supposed to do their own thing? When's that?

But what about the multi-platform games that will still get shown at Xbox? Or the Square Enix press conference? Or Ubisoft? Or Bethesda?

Where is @VN1X, on that note?

Damn, doesn't even exist any more?

Good dude, I liked him.

I do hope he didn't leave the forum over it, but he was given curator status and made some edits to people's topics which weren't required. Members complained and he eventually stepped down as curator.

It was a silly incident and it would be a real shame if he left the forum over it. Particularly as he was a huge help getting the E3 Threads to the standard they were last year and was always one of the forums most enthusiastic contributors.

Sony aren’t doing anything. When they announced they were pulling out there were a lot of rumours about their own thing but nothing was announced. There was a state of play a week or so ago, and the death stranding trailer. Call of Duty and Destiny have revealed things separately, probably because their current ties with Sony would make it awkward if they were in the Microsoft conference.

But the MS conference will be full of cool stuff, loads of third parties, loads of cool announcements, and the majority will be multi platform.

@Broker I think Sony's own thing is Playstation Experience which happens later in the year. Around Oct or Sep.

I'd rather they don't pitch up than do that weird mood lighting theatre and stream of trailers, though. They've got a lot coming and probably don't have much new to show with PS5 around the corner so just showing us TLOU2 and that Samurai game yet again would be a let down.

E3 Does seem more muted this year with Sony being absent but it will be interesting to see what MS announce. They certainly have been hyping things up at their end, I hope to see some new hardware. Maybe some new IP announcements but perhaps a bit to early show anything other than reveal trailers from their recent studio aquisitions.

I assume Google are just going to be on the show floor demoing stuff seeing as they announced pricing strategy and launch titles yesterday.

Should make for an interesting comparison: Doom Eternal running super smooth and fast at the Bethesda booth, and Doom Eternal streamed with lag over at the Google newsstand.

I think they’ve confirmed there’s no PSX this year either.

Makes sense if they think it's too soon to properly unveil the PS5. In terms of PS4 stuff they'll probably have nothing new to show at this point. Like HarryBizzle says, they've already shown extensive gameplay demo's of TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima - and there's a possibility that either of these titles are PS5 titles after all, or cross-gen. In that case they would have even more reason to wait until showing them again.

Next year with the PS5 launch likely around the corner we'll at least see a PSX event again and probably also an E3 conference.

I’m finding the lack of hype round here quite sad tbh :(

It sucks that Sony won’t have a presence, but their thing was shite last year anyway. It’s all about that Nintendo Direct for me. But weirdly there seems less Rllmuk hype for the whole event than there would be for one of the other Directs we get throughout the year.

I'm not particularly hyped; the lack of Sony has significantly drained my usual excitement. Still interested in Nintendo, but I'm not expecting much, really. From Software is the only other studio I'm interested in, but they're not big enough to have their own presentation are they? I guess they'll be part of the Microsoft one maybe?
