Not a Vauxhall promotion, but a movie with Brad Pitt in space. Pitt is Roy McBride, who travels to the outer edge of the solar system to find his father and unravel a mystery that threatens life in the solar system. Also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, Jamie Kennedy and Donald Sutherland. Currently set for 20 September.

I'm in for this. I was worried it seemed to disappear without trace but apparently it was put on the back burner while Disney and Fox sorted themselves out. Can't really glean anything from the trailer but James Gray has hit consistently with me.

The “a chicken” era

IDGI!

If you're suggesting Apollo came first, the look Ad Astra's helmets is a odd as everyone in a modern film driving 60's cars.

I'm clearly over over sensitive when it comes to helmets...

(Inevitable The Expanse does helmets properly footnote)

Pollo is chicken in (I think) Spanish.

Breaking bad? Pollos? No.

How about Monkey Island and its El Pollo Diablo? Still nothing?

The trailer seems to give away 75% of the film!

Yeah, I watched about the first third of the trailer, decided it was something I'd like to see, and then switched it off before it gave anything else away.

I see. The film's set in the uncertain un huevo era?

Saw this today having avoided anything about it bar knowing Brad Pitt is an Astronaut and Tommy Lee Jones is also in it.

Was really good - perhaps 10 minutes too long (although it’s visually stunning so plenty of lingering space shots to enjoy) and a little bit too much voiceover - but very good.

Worth avoiding trailers I’d have thought although the official one I just watched didn’t spoil too much.

Film/trailer spoilers

Spoiler

Although it does show the end of the film and bits of two key set pieces.

I saw a bus go by at the weekend with some of the laziest advertising for this on it,; just a big ol’ face of Brad on it. It could have been advertising aftershave rather than sci-fi film. Thought at the time obviously not much faith in this film.

Grace Randolph reckons this is one of the best films she's ever seen. Seems a bit hyperbolic but it certainly piqued my interest. I thought it looked so-so from the first trailer but I like any half-decent hard sci-fi so it looks like I'm going to see it this weekend.

Oh, it’s definitely hard sci-fi if you like that sort of thing. Easily one of the hardest sci-fi films I’ve seen in years.

Do they explain why their helmets look like antiques? I like my scifi with good helmets and in the trailer they really blow it.
