My wife and I both missed how the two Russian's knew.  We decided it was due to magical doctor powers.

She gave blood when they needed to do a transfusion after they came back from finding Ed and Dannys location. That’s the only thing I can think of, I assume being pregnant shows up pretty obviously in blood work otherwise I can’t see any other way they’d know.

It was the blood test, yes.

That was a better episode for sure, but once again I certainly any real life manned Mars missions aren't handled so ineptly. Honestly, Danny should never have been brought on the mission, but should definitely have been taken off duty a long time ago. He's clearly on the way to some kind of massive redemption arc, but I'm not sure he deserves it.

Yeah that was much better.

Aleidas scene with her dad was heartbreaking. Ellen doing the right thing and the speech she gives and its following impact worldwide was such a good moment for this season. Seeing the marches, Will getting an award and his reaction was good shit too.

Plus the talk about how in this universe, everyone has access to free, clean energy hurt so much to hear. Any day now i'm sure ☹️

That ending though ffs. I should have suspected they'd pull something like that with both the American and Russian crews getting along so well. These writers, man. They really cant help themselves 😆

Spoiler

Best Korea wins again!

Less Danny too was good. He really needs to do a big gesture before the end of this season and sacrifice himself for the rest of the crew if we're going full rehabilitation of his character quite honestly.

This series hasn’t been as been as consistent as the first two, but when it gets good, it’s absolutely superb.

Spoiler

I love how the blended crew are now totally different people

Ellen’s speech was very moving

PRK FTW, though I when I saw the footprint I thought they would have sent someone on a one way trip to die

Probably quite a fitting conclusion to an underwhelming season of TV quite frankly. Don't know if I can be bothered talking about much of it in any great detail as it all felt rather pedestrian, despite a lot happening. Too much really, despite the running time. To the degree it felt rushed, poorly executed and consequently underwhelming.

Thankfully they can lean on the screen presence of Joel Kinnaman because without that, i don't know, man.

Honestly I thought this was laughably bad.

From Reddit

Spoiler

Both the Stevens boys fucked Karen now.

Spoiler

i'm deducting points from the show purposefully not killing Danny off, despite the fact I did agree that the last thing he should have done, given his admission to Ed was to be anywhere near Kelly.

Regarding Kelly, I feel the writers for her were running some assassination on her this season for going to the lengths of putting her on the Mars mission only for her to be reduced to her relationships with her father/the Russian she briefly meets and falls in love with and the resulting baby. Not even being able to control the craft herself but piloted away by Ed in a scene that felt noticeably a bit too close to The Martian.

Also let me also just say that both Jimmy and Danny's stories where both fucking terrible from the jump, but still, it's mighty impressive that jimmy's story line snuck in at the last minute to become arguably worse than Danny's ever did this season.

Regarding the bombing, this speaks to how poorly it was executed than anything else but Karen knew there was trouble at the centre and just wandered around for like a half hour without telling security, which you could argue probably led to the place getting blown up. Like she passed by the security guards how many times? Couldn’t have set off the alarm, started shouting, anything. Infuriating to watch.

Overall, no question about it, despite bits of enjoyment here and there, the weakest season yet, and now it's more clear to me than ever before that the show won't hesitate to stoop into soap opera levels of schlock when ever they feel they need to stir up drama.

I'll probably still tune in for the next season because i'm a fucking arsehole.

After having seen the finale, the most pressing thing on my mind is still

Spoiler

how they fit 2+ years worth of oxygen, water, food and space for waste on a probe not much bigger than a SpaceX Dragon. And with more to spare now it's being used as the Danny prison.

It sucks that him and his bro managed to outlive Molly and Karen.

Also I'm betting leaving the N Korean gun in the sand next to where Danny is now staying is going to lead to complications next season. Best case scenario Danny does the decent thing, but the writers will probably get him to shoot up the crew.

I loved how the EP10 intro was the same as the EP9 ending but on the N Korean frequency

This season almost felt like a different show to the first two. It had none of the spirit of exploration and wonder for a start, but also everyone seemed to turn into a complete idiot. Most of the drama in the first two seasons stemmed from the cold war tensions and competing states, while this time it was almost always the result of bad planning and sheer idiocy.

It felt like the show had received a bit of a budget cut too. There was far less space stuff, most of what we saw of Mars took place in tiny habitation modules.

This was also the first season where the period drama stuff felt a bit jarring. The space technology felt decades ahead of everything else in the show, when it used to feel more like something we could maybe have achieved at the time with enough money and incentive.

I'm a big fan of The Martian, especially the book. This season came close to outright plagiarism a couple of times, but that story did a far better job of showing human ingenuity up against the odds while still making Mars feel like an incredible place.

I hope this season was somehow the result of Covid shenanigans, and next season brings things back around.

Noticed this too… The first episode of the season looked like it had the most money spent on it for effects shots, by some distance. Otherwise it seemed like they went out of their way to avoid showing certain events onscreen.

Agree that this season it’s gone from alt-history hard sci-fi with a melodramatic, soapy streak to mostly a soapy melodrama. That soapiness has always been part of the series, and I’ll admit that the concept of the series has always been better than the execution, but it’s become much more pronounced now. And I’d argue the series doesn’t have the quality of writing or acting behind it to pull it off.

Overall the quality was down on S2 but it's still full of stuff to like and it got waaay better as the season progressed. Ep 1 was proper comical badness, I feared the worst but they turned it around.

Spoiler

The bomb seemed a bit... why? Just felt a bit off. I preferred this to be more about exploration than this sort of thing.

I mean they were leading to something with the whole conspiracy theory stuff with Jimmy.

This is all just so bizarre though, the start of the episode just felt like West Wing style wish fulfilment but this is just crazy....like do they not know what kind of a show this is?

...What kind of a show is this now??? 🤦‍♂️ I feel like I should start looking for all the RDM Mormon references...
