Now that’s what we’ve come to expect. Stuff going badly wrong, and more Elon-like behaviour

Spoiler

The smashing a computer in anger reminded me more of accounts of Steve Jobs’ behaviour and egomania from former colleagues! Helios does seem based on Silicon Valley companies of that era and earlier, with their strange mix of post-hippie ethos and ruthless corporate ambition lead by a publicity-hungry figurehead. Err, rather like the tech company whose streaming service this series is carried on.

Yep, that was understandable, but

Spoiler

Leaving the rescue to NASA so he can win the race is more of a dick move.

Anyway, I’m assuming that next week we’ll get the remaining Astronauts and Cosmonauts salvaging the fuel and continuing on to Mars, or possibly all having be rescued by Ed and then we get one giant mixed crew together

This is so good.

Spoiler

I got a huge sense of dread from the moment Sjourner got the tip off call, and that just built and built until the disaster hit at the end of the episode. That was a hell of a cliffhanger.

Ep6, quite trash now. They're in space but acting like childish idiots.

Spoiler

The Sojourner landing was bad enough.  Why was it a VTOL craft, separate engines and everything!?  They had a lunar lander, why would they try and land the whole ship for Mars??

Also it kinda reminds me of Pan Am when they brought up the sexuality stuff and it just seems pointless in that time and now, like shit we've just had the majority of Republicans vote against gay marriage.

They really are doubling down on the worst part of the show now and depending on how this resolves next week, this show may be going down a few pegs in my estimate. Worst episode of the season.

Spoiler

If nick dies so this Danny thing can continue even longer than it has, I think thats it for this whole season quite frankly.

I haven't seen the latest episode yet, but I do think this season has lost a lot of the sense of wonder of the first two. The balance is definitely off.

Last week was a perfect example:

Spoiler

The first manned Mars landings should have been a celebration, but instead the episode focussed on the tedious aspects of maintaining habitation and interpersonal squabbling. Mars itself didn't really get much of a look in, and felt a lot less special than the Moon did last season.

Definitely agree. It just serves as a backdrop to interpersonal squabbling now. It could be anywhere. Mars is just the excuse. It was far more science forward in the previous seasons.

Now its

Spoiler

"Will Ed find out NOW?"

Whether the season manages to turn itself around, the amount of time already spent on Danny and his ever growing array of personal problems has just been the most staggering miss by the creative team of this show.

I don’t know, I didn’t think Danny dominated that much up until this episode, you could easily pretend he died in episode 1 and cut him from the rest of the show and it would still make sense.

As for the sense of exploration, I think it was still there but makes sense that it changes as things go on.  It became a race and it was about winning, and people start to get greedy and take things for granted.  It’s another step towards Alien space truckers.  I mean, that was pretty much the Expanse right?  Discover any new frontier and petty human squabbles follow.

It seems to have got far more "soapy" this season.

I appreciated the little redemption dev got.  And…

“This is an engineering problem.
We are engineers.
Shall we begin?”

You knew it was coming. It’s cheesy but pretty much sums up the best parts of the show, with heist movies like scenes.

And the Danny & Ed stuff were a little better this episode.  I expect it to be a little bit more like the Expanse next season.
