It should definitely avoid leaning into too much of the personal drama. It's fine I think when used to create difficult mental situations for the main players but I don't really need the sitcom-esq relationships.

Probably a way of stretching the budget further.

Well, this first episode blew most finales out of the water for cranking the tension up.

Sure.  Within 5 minutes and before the intro they have

killed Thatcher and England won the World Cup.

I watch this show for the space stuff and find the soap opera and calamity to be daft and pretty much on the level of a low end seventies disaster movie.

But yes

Spoiler

Cheap fusion, Thatcher murdered, Hand of God penalised and a Beatles reunion, what’s not to like?

I enjoyed it.

Glad that private space entrepreneur wasn't just a parody of Elon Musk and was his own thing.

Ever since last season though I discovered that the Karen actress is also the voice of Wraith in Apex Legends and now I can't unhear it. It's broke me slightly.

The last few minutes of E2 were just "fuck yeah!!!!" Molly said it best :D

Only thing I don't like about the series is Gordo and Tracy's son... that pipsqueak breaking up Ed and Karen's marriage, and now talking talking crap about ma boi Ed. Sadly it looks like the writers are setting it up for him and Ed in some confrontation.

two years later jump... there was a lot of build up there which would have been interesting to see, especially that slingshot supply mission around Venus. Instead it was relegated to a sentence at a meeting.

I was a little disappointed about that

I guess it means they can spend more time on the manned missions, which would surely make for better drama than an unmanned supply mission?

It's not just the manned missions though, it's the drama of all of the characters

Spoiler

They cut it off with the flight director woman looking at a photo of her family after hearing about the problems at home!

Wait and see I guess. I can't read the showrunners' minds, but I can only assume that stuff they've set up will have some kind of payoff. Ultimately though they only have a budget for so many episodes, and the main event here is clearly the race to Mars.

Oh yeah of course, the show isn't over and there's always these kinds of issues with big ensemble casts, especially when you have a show spanning decades!  I was just a little disappointed not seeing that story play out

I know no one watched Lightyear, but watching this show is a bit like Buzz going through time dilation and missing years from people he cares about every time he takes his spaceship out for a spin.

the good side is that as unbearable as Danny might be, at least we know it’ll probably wrap up this season and the next would be a bit more of a clean slate.

My wife's shifts have changed recently which has had her working evenings. As something to do I've started picking up shows and just watching them & enjoying them, rather than just having them on as background noise.

I finished foundation and then moved onto this blind, thinking it would be straight up scifi.

It's not, but I'm fucking loving it. Still on S1 and I've just hit an episode that has totally broken me.

Spoiler

Shane's accident.

Brilliant, brilliant show, but I cant do another episode tonight.
