Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

Had a quick blast on this and found it a bit disappointing. Limited amount of game modes and the battles I took part in purely consisted of some very overpowered characters running around one or two-shotting everyone (people who have spent time developing PvP builds I guess rather than just jumping in headfirst using their PvE characters like me). I don't think there's any rewards, or sense of progression. So the same as the PvP modes in other Souls games basically, just I was hoping for a bit more here, due to the fact we've been waiting so long for the coliseums to finally open.

The main thing that worries me though it - I don't think we're going to be getting an actual Artorias-style "proper" DLC, are we? Bearing in mind the PvP arenas were included as an extra with proper new-content paid DLC in the other From games (I think - definitely is Dark Souls 1).

Has there ever been a delay of this length between the release of a From game and an announcement about DLC? Not long now and Elder Ring is going to be a year old! I do hope I'm wrong as there seem to be so many hooks left in the storyline where DLC could come in.

I think i've finally reached the end of the game. What a trip.

Abandoned multiple builds along the way because i lost the feel for them after taking long breaks (work). In the end a pure Bonk build was probably the most fun (lvl150, 55 vgr, 65 str, 40 fth). Dual wielding two Giant Spiked Hammers just never gets old

Highlights:

Limgrave first time around

Altus /Leyndell combo (atmosphere and music)

Cealid first time around (same as above)

NPC's / excellent voice acting (Hoarah Loux was really the only disappointing one for me)

Subterranean Shunning Grounds, Nokstella, Haligtree and Farum Azula.

The Bosses. Glad they didn't just went the route of adding more flailing capes and hair on bosses to disguise movesets a la Ds3 or BB. Only had to change my build once (EB, which moved around too fast for my hammers).

Tightening up the animations/ hitboxes/ weapon sound effects made this easily my favourite 'Souls like' since DS1.

The patch that reduced/halved the loading times on ps4 and made multiplayer fun again.

Kinda funny that the boss i probably died the most to must be the cunty cat/dog thingy with his gargoyles somewhere in a cave in weeping peninsula. Melania and EB took less tries combined.

Picked this up recently and wondered if anyone has a copy of the Elden Ring Official Strategy Guide from Future Press, they would like to pass on / sell?

For these types of games, I like to fully clear out areas as far as I can and then read over the lore and find parts I didn't discover via the books.

You'll probably find sites like this just as - if not more so - complete and free.

Cross-posting from the Steam Deck thread:

Double dipped on Elden Ring in the Steam sale, despite not yet finishing it on PS5 (my mans has been patiently sitting at a Site of Grace in the Shaded Castle on Altus Plateau since summer). Amazed at how well it runs on Deck. I was expecting it to be 30fps at 720p but it seems much smoother and higher res than all that.

Managed to slap Magrit second go, about 1.5 hours after starting with my “new” character (it’s anotherSTR/DEX Uchi boi. Again. Always). Pretty sure that took 3 days of play, exploration and death originally.

Currently sipping a wee beer and having a scan through the massive fuck off guidebook I got for Christmas, so I can see what all these non-STR/DEX Uchi boi, non-melee builds are about.

Not opened mine yet. Tempted to keep it in the shrink wrap lol

Picked this up as I was hoping to reignite my gaming interest which has dropped of a lot of late, also thought it would keep me busy whilst I recover from flu.   Have been playing a couple of hours and beginning to get a handle on combat, but I still die frequently which is starting to grate.  Main thing is it all feels aimless at the moment, I am so used to Skyrim-type games that continually throw quests at you but this feels less linear and I am struggling with anything that requires brainwork at present.  Any advice as to where I should head to or what my starting aims should be would be appreciated!

At the most basic for progression, are you following

the graces?

it didn’t jump out for some people that

the light trails went in the direction of the next one.

Have you identified the icon on the map that, er, uncovers the map?

Last Easter I got up to and beat Melania(?) and went on to the next area but got Covid which knocked me out of playing it and I've meant to get back to it since then.

Started a new game tonight as didn't want to pick up from where I was not knowing what I was doing etc. Picked a Wretch again so started with no armour and a club and muddled through, pressing the wrong buttons etc and got to Margit after about 40 mins (10 mins was in the character creator making the same sort of character I do in all games where there's an option) and went to summon my jellyfish and then remembered I didn't have a bell

Went back to the church, got the bell, back to the castle, smashed his face in after a few goes but my evading leaves a lot to be desired. First time around I had barely any HP as my strategy was to not get hit but that's looking optimistic at the moment and I already have bumped it up a bit.

No idea what to put points into now though, on playthrough 1 I went Strength crazy so could do with balancing it a bit more from the off, I might have to look up some weapons and aim towards their requirements and see how it goes...

I can see why it grabbed me first time around :)

Crazy (in a good way) swedish Twitch streamer MissMikkaa is currently doing a challenge run on ER where she is playing 2 games simultaneously (on 2 monitors obviously). On PS5 with the controller and on PC controlling the character with a dance-pad. It's an all-remembrance run and she just beat Malenia (x2) on her 199th try. Only Radagon/Elden Beast to go and she has completed the challenge. No summons allowed and no magic build. The main bosses has to be killed on the same try so if she dies on 1 screen she has to restart both. For Malenia she opted to forego Wild Strikes as it was too overpowered. The dancepad has limited buttons so she has to reconfigure it depending on the situation (if she needs Jump e.g.). Also she can't control the camera freely on dancepad so has to rely on re-centering the view. I think she was level 123 for Malenia. Mikkaa previously did a dancepad only RL1 AR run and a 1-hand only controller RL1 AR. She also beat God of War 2018 on hardest difficulty on dancepad incl. all Valkyries.

I'm about four hours into the game, still in Limgrave, found and equipped the Lordsworn's Greatsword. Tried to take on the troll at the Gatefront Ruins but turned back, after at some point getting past while on torrent and ended up in a barren area with some huge circle thing on the floor which I could enter but got scared and went  back after not being able to find a Sites of Grace.  Just found the entrance to the Murkwater Catacombs.

Playing as a Vagabond, going for a shield style character, but wouldn't mind having some distant weapon like a bow for some distance attacks when required.
Looking for advice on what I should be scaling and aiming for to do within this starter area,  assume for a this type of build I should be going along the line of Vigor, Endurance, Strength and Dexerity? But not sure to which ratio between them.

Shall I upgrade this Lordsworn's Greatsword sword? Having the Halberd as well, do like the reach it has, is making me too heavy still so removed it atm.

The Lordsworn GS sword was my weapon of choice for the first half of my first playthrough, it's a popular choice and a decent beginner's sword I reckon.

Yeah the Lordsworn's Greatsword is a great starting weapon. And yes do upgrade it. See if you can find Limgrave Tunnels (NE of Agheel Lake). Enemies there should be fairly easy and they drop loads of Smithing Stone (1). x12 of those will take it to +3

Vigour and Strength levels will work good for it also. Endurance will help with equip load so you can equip both weapons

i am about 24 hours in and I am still using my Lordsworn Greatsword that I got early doors.

Also a vagabond but instead of a shield I now dual wield giant swords - it’s great fun.

Primarily I have upgraded endurance so I can do a jump attack and several big swings. I also needed the equip load for 2 large swords.  My weapons scale with strength so have dumped loads in there also.

I binned the halberd and have a bow as a secondary for distance. For ages I had to keep that unequipped to keep me below heavy though.

I have a few items I found along the way that help with some stat boosts - won’t say more than that as I know some consider that spoilers!

I found it useful to watch a few YouTube vids on builds to see where I wanted to end up before starting this run - not following a guide as such but just a ‘here’s how you can end up’ and getting a help in where to focus.
