Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

Finished this last night after starting it on launch weekend. It’s been immense. So many memories created wandering around this VAST world. As ever with From games, early memories are best - the unknown at every turn , death around every corner. . . .

Ended up co-opping the final boss. It was late and I couldn’t be bothered chasing it around the arena with my strength build character.

also went back and co-opped Melania before bed. Apologies! I genuinely don’t think I would’ve done her without help.

need to decide what to play next:-

- resume Dark Souls 3 & finish it

- Yakuza: Like A Dragon

- Red Dead 2

- resume God of War 2018*

- Death Stranding

any suggestions?

*I worry that the combat will feel rubbish so soon after a From game. That ruined Witcher 3 for me back in the day.

Death Stranding!

I played that for the first time this year and was blown away by it. Also a lovely change of pace, gameplay and visuals from ER.

I will assume Sekiro isn’t in your list because you’ve already finished it, otherwise 🤨

no, I’m about 70% through Sekiro. That’s going to wait until 2023. Will likely start a new game.

I’ll give Death Stranding a go. I know absolutely nothing about it other than the fella from Walking Dead is in it.

Morgott is hard af 🤦 how much more of the game is there after that ?

I don't even think that's 25% through. But equally, I also don't think there's a relative difficulty spike like that for the rest of the game, until Malenia.

Yep. It’s exactly what you’d expect. Not a great deal of art, a small amount of lore, and thousands of screenshots and step by step guides to ways through each area, weapon and character stats, NPC journeys and interaction points etc. No boss strategies I don’t think, that’s book 2.

Nothing you likely can’t get online now, but it’s a hefty, well thought out beast.

So after a lengthy delay I have just jumped into this yesterday.

Spent the first 2 hours wandering around dying a lot and not really knowing what to do. But have just done Beastman, the troll thing in the Stormgate and made it up to the hills. Need to get my From mojo back as my combat is sloppy still and having done Bloodborne and Demon Souls before I don't really have any excuses to hide behind. Just need to get good again.

Glorious suffering.

This is great, as you have referenced a specific point where I had my first big 'nope' moment. I ran from it of course. Ran away so fast and so high I put that Giant behind me and never looked back. Then about a month later I returned to that area and more or less ended him by flicking some lint from my pocket in his general direction :)

You've got much more From pedigree than me with BB and DS under your belt (Sekiro is the only other one I've completed) so this should be as good if not better than those for you once you get properly settled in.

Got summoned by the dude who wants to watch the full opening Melania cutscene. He then got decimated by the first waterfall dance. This is the start of a long journey for my invisible online friend. Praise the rump.

Not had loads of time on this since starting but managed another hour or so last night. Banged my head against getting into Stormveil Castle a few times (and finally got through only to come face to face with the big guy). Think I'm a bit under levelled/equipped for him so will come back, annoyingly I have a feeling I missed a site of grace as I was running away from some soldiers in the tunnel on the way in and was going to come back but hit the cutscene. Will try and unlock that later. 🤦‍♂️

Instead I decided to wandered around Lingrave a bit and punished a fool for invading me near a little keep under the broken bridge, then saw the crone and took the path north around to Lakes of Liurnia, found the chapel and then got mauled by a big skeleton in the graveyard.

Not masses of progress but starting to get a feel for it. Definitely need to sort out what I'm doing weapon wise though, currently running two handed and dodging rather than blocking/parrying but not sure that is going to hold me in great stead for later. I'm doing a Samurai build so any top tips on where to take it would be welcome. Currently at Vig/End/Dex of 16 and everything else as it was at creation.

I think it is a pretty safe bet. It's probably the only way to get anyone to actually care about watching the awards.

I believe they’re on at half past midnight our time.

In the words of forum friend Nate Brown - fuck about.

I guess I’ll catch the highlights on Friday morning (shortly after the live show finishes).
