Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Announced

He's really weak to Scarlet Rot and you can craft rot arrows if you go buy the recipe off one of the merchants in Caelid. It's the one south west of Souther Aeonia Swamp Bank. They'll probably make the fight a lot easier, I've not tried them but I've usually enough faith/arcane I can use the dragon breath on him. Arrows should work just as well though and require no casting stats.

One's he's infected with scarlet rot, just stay on Torrent, keep away from him and re-summon your buddies as and when you can. You'll need to re-apply the rot in phase 2, but one's he got the rot on him he can't help but die. You just need to stay alive long enough for it to work it's magic.

I ask because I’m more interested in how rare it is for people to be sorting his armour. I’ve bea…. Sorry, my zombie mates have beaten him while I rode around like a polo player resurrecting people instead of hitting a ball, so whilst the battle itself was a bag of shite the rewards certainly are not.

Spoiler

I opted for the great bow so when I respec I’m going to hit that minimum dexterity requirement and add that as my ranged option. The full armour is the stuff of dreams. It looks sensationally over the top is bastard hard and absolutely perfect for my strictly melee character.

What’s this Ranni quest @Hawklord? I assume if I start it now it’s a case of confirming it’s already dealt with?

I'll spoiler just in case and try not to give too much away

Spoiler

Ranni the Witch is one of the two main side quests. It's fairly long and complex and it gives you the option of a different ending to the game and has it's own separate achievement/trophy. You've actually already met Ranni early in the game, you just don't know it yet ;)

The Festival at Redmane Castle and the Radahn fight is part of the start of her quest. There's a couple of ways to trigger The Festival but fortunately you haven't been locked out of her quest yet (I think) and beating Radahn is compulsory to progress it, but not compulsory for any of the other endings.

The quest is typically Souls obtuse in places and you probably won't be able to do it without a guide and it can lock you out of other side quests depending on how you work through it

If you want to see as much of the game as you can in one playthrough, it's worth doing as there are areas on the map that you won't have access to if you don't. Don't worry about it though if you plan on further playthroughs

Also, don't forget that you can use certain Walking Colosseums to duplicate his Remembrance but also these Colosseums are limited in number i.e. there are more Remembrances than there are Colosseums and each can only be used once per playthrough

@Hawklord I’m level 69, have been playing for god knows how many hours and have absolutely no idea what a fucking walking coliseum is  love it.

Appreciate the tips man, thanks. I’m messing about in Caelid still and just beat a big Commander guy to get a gold needle for something. It was a brilliant fight!

🤣

I'd guestimate that you're not even a 1/4 through it yet then, possibly even less lol. And that needle is part of another long side quest that can affect the other (not Ranni) main side quest. Gotta love From with their interconnected stuff lol

Took me 160+ hours for each of my 100% runs and that was only because I done the save scum on both. But I had to do NG+ on SX as I missed part of that very quest with the needle. Rushed through it in about 30 hours (on top of the 160). I think in total (including my current Steam Deck run) I've played just under 400 hours. I may have a problem 🤔

And sorry, I meant Walking Mausoleums, not coliseums.  You'll know when you find one, or rather you'll hear it first ;)

I seem to have found this way after I was supposed to. between the dude being weak to bleed and getting mimic to dual wield, I almost feel like I cheesed him.  I do not feel like I had to properly learn his moveset. also I could not get those shackles I had to work. they have one job!

EDIT: wow that's a lot of runes.

I still dont really know where I am actually up to or what to do next but I will dig out a guide tonight and try and work it out.  In the meantime though I took down Commander Niall at last and I can now access the Haligtree area.

Fuck that.

Back to the drawing board.commander niall

Also, how the hell are you meant to track where you are up to with sidequests? I have loads of key items for instance that I have either used or have no idea where to use them.

My copy of volume one of the official guide arrived midweek. It's a bit of a tome, as you might expect, but it's very comprehensive, and it comes with a massive map of the world (which I'm tempted to have framed, although that might level me up to a whole new realm of dork). There's lots of lovely art and close ups of the various items, NPCs and enemies. There's also a bit at the back that concisely explains the lore, cross-referencing different item descriptions and NPC dialog, which I found useful as online explainers and videos can often be a bit unwieldy.

Having 100% completed the game, I doubt I'll ever actually use it as a guide (maybe on my third run-through), but it's a nice thing to have and I'm going to keep my pre-order for the second volume.

Pen & paper or read through here

Personally, I went down the guide route as I don't have much time for gaming these days

(Also reading the item descriptions will give clues. Cryptic ones, but you can piece things together, eventually)

It’s taken me a ridiculous number of hours but I actually feel a little bit powerful now. Wearing Radahns full armour, using Longsworn sword heavy +14, a beautiful large shield and my strength overclocked to the hilt :)

I met a few mini bosses whilst I was playing last night and they all fell on the first go. Not because it was too easy, but because I finallly have the stats and gear to make the way I love to play possible. Block this, roll from that, attack, attack, move away, close range. Behold joy!!

It shouldn’t take as long as it has to feel this way, but I am not obsessed with this game. It still has things that could be improved and Sekiro is (for me) still the better overall game but Elden Ring really is something quite special. I expect Ragnarok to be my GOTY, plus I am excluding Sekiro and Death Stranding because they are older games, but this coming a close second is much better than I ever expected of it.

I am guessing I finally found miquella. I have seen a few memes about this fight. I was not quite ready to go in. So I am not sure this is indeed what I think it is. If it is miquella then I also found her alongside the best hint ever written.

She is Malenia, blade of Miquella.

As you definitely won't tire of hearing.

Ah makes sense. I might try this evening for the first time. But feels like I have a lot more to find in the area leading up. I found a square talisman which enormously raises damage negation. I wonder what else is nearby.

*Won't be doing that again! Was offered £7 off if I picked Post Office counter collection. They delivered on Saturday, 5  mins before the counter closed leaving me no time to collect. The counter is open 8:45am - 5:30pm which is after I leave for work and before I get home. And if I didn't collect before Saturday coming, it would be returned to Amazon. Had to ask to start work late this morning to collect it

The end is in sight!!!! OMG!

However ....

Spoiler

What the fuck do I do about the Elden Beast! - I manage to get phase 1 out the way with my mimic tear but by the time I get to the Beast I am nearly out of potions and my mimic is nearly dead.  I am yet to even hit the beast more than a couple of times.

I have gone through the entire game without using a human summon for help and would ideally like for that to continue - however after 160 hours if that's what it takes then so be it.  I have loved this from start to finish but the ending boss rush is a bit of a let down.
