I’m losing a lot of enthusiasm for this… I’ve found myself now just charging past things to find graces as I can’t be bothered fighting everything. Then I ran into the fire giant and got stomped *again*.

length wise, it feels like the game should’ve ended at the capital. At least the main story, of what there is anywayS I really enjoyed that area and going up to the tree but I feel as though I’m at the game extending triforce quest equivalent now.

Also, it very much follows the hero's journey, so no it definitely shouldn't have ended at the capital I feel. It's really putting in the final effort to see it through. (And level the hell out of your character.)

Another productive day yesterday as after a couple of days away I was able to immediately trounce Mohg, then conquered Godskin Duo (fifth attempt), Malkeith (eighth attempt) and

Spoiler

Gideon (first, punk)

before hitting a bit of a wall with Godfrey. His ridiculous AoE attacks are a pain in the arse, only managed to get to his second phase once. I shall not be deterred. Perseverance is the key.

I think this is because of the spirit ashes though right? I love that they're in the game and it's a really interesting development, but it does allow you to just power through bosses without really having to learn them or their movesets or anything. Some of the late-game bosses second phase movesets are really tough, VERY fast and punishing.

Take Maliketh for example. As soon as you hit phase 2 he's doing crazy fast huge swipes all over the place, a lot of which are not fully blockable and have subtly different timings and delays. And if you do get hit your max HP gets sapped. He can also fire projectiles which also have different timings depending on small differences. I think he has three different "slam" type moves with varying degrees/types of AOE that I never even really got the hang of spotting the tells for. And this is a boss that I don't even really think anyone talks about!

I am on board with the whole "balance doesn't always equal fun" thing, but it definitely felt like it was too easy with ashes, but too hard without by the end-game, for me.

Genuinely didn't find Maliketh that hard and I did him without summoning my ashes or a human player. All of the late game bosses up to the Elden Beast have been fairly doable. I've parked it at Elden Beast so I can mop up loose ends before going into NG+ so I've not had a proper go it him yet.

What has really helped me is parrying and Rotten Breath. If I'm outnumbered by multiple bosses then I will definitely bring the Mimic out, otherwise I'm trying to solo the bosses. For Fire Giant I did use the NPC summon and the Mimic, the trade-off for that was being unable to use Torrent. I did use the mimic for the Gargoyles as well.

I've died way more to those fucking archers in Ordina than any boss.

Not trying to flex because I am properly shit at FROM games. It's taken me over 200 hours to get this far.

Interesting! I found Maliketh really rough.. more so than Elden Beast to be honest! EB gives you a bit of a chance to recover if you make a mistake - but Maliketh one mistake could lead to death pretty easily. I guess these things are build/player dependent somewhat, but maybe no one else finds him that hard, and that's why I never really see him mentioned :). Just the pace and chaos of that second phase I thought was really something. Often when I first started tackling phase 2 I'd die without really knowing what happened.

I also clocked in at over 200 hours but I really did grind bosses towards the end (and throughout to be honest) and that does add up.

End at the capital? God no! That's like saying your favourite album should have 3 less songs because you... don't actually like the album.

Have you tried just playing a different game?

I’m 96 hours into it and really enjoyed most of it… I just think it’s dragging a bit now. I’m sure I’ll get over this hump and find a cool area to enjoy.

So far though, Limgrave remains the best area and Stormveil the best ‘dungeon’

Yeah, same here, including some blatantly obvious high level smithing stones that I'd somehow just walked past, multiple times.

Got the Night's Cavalry gear yesterday.

I’m gathering the items I’ve missed now following a guide and it’s crazy how much stuff I’d missed (talismans, tears etc). And I’ve got 240 hours on the clock.

I'm trying my best to not use any guides, I did have a quick look at the wiki to get an idea for how many talismans I'm missing - there's a bunch!

I finished Haligtree yesterday, what a stupid great area that was.  Melania wasn't too bad, though I dread the idea of fighting her without my mimic!!  Also felt a bit sad clearing out the last bit of the stage, I was just murdering dudes who just seemed to be paying their respects to gravestones.  What's the dealio?!

I've been revisiting things and trying to mop stuff up, finally beat Tiche and some other bits I'd forgotten to 'go back' to like the guy who teaches you beast incantations and the warp from weeping peninsual that takes you to the captial (how do you activate the lift there?! Actually, I STILL don't know how you activate the lift at the very bottom of Stormveil (isn't there a crucible knight there somewhere?  Never found him).  And I've got no idea where the dragon from Farum Azula has gone, he's gotta be there somewhere!!

And what about the dragon you fight at Ranni's Rise / Three Sisters - does it show up again somewhere?  And the one in Altus, though I don't pay attention to the names so may have already done it (or is it the same one that appears in Farum Azula?).

Is there a way to get into the coliseum at the top/back of the capital?  Ditto the huge jar place in Caelid?  Argh!  I kinda want someone to tell me, but I also don't.

Other than those handful of things though, I think I'm almost there. I've taken on the frenzied flame so have no idea how that's gonna pan out for my ending!

Almost there.  I don't want to finish.

Haven't they previously left certain information off the patch notes, specifically the adjustment of bosses? I think Redahn's nerf was adverstised, but not his re-buff. I wonder if anything has been tampered with.

Yeah, I hate the way the camera gets butted around by the scenery, especially in the Roundtable Hold in those tight corridors from the main table area. Hopefully that'll be gone now.

there's quite a bit of that in the game. I feel kinda bad killing people who are just sitting about, the big native american (lol) dudes in particular. It feels like you are just beating on dudes who's society has already been put to the sword. Not the singing bats though, those guys are ASSHOLES and should just sit singing instead of attacking me with poison and then flapping away.

you need to do it from the bottom of the lift. you get to it from the inside of the 'real' roundtable hold building but if the capital is all ashy you won't be able to get there now.

Spoiled in case you really don't want even a hint:

Spoiler

Start at the tower grace, go outside and look around for other routes, apart from the one that you would normally take to get down to the church.

If you actually want to know...

Spoiler

No, really.

Spoiler

Head in the direction of the birds, taking out the first three then look left. There should be some steps leading to an overlook of some description. You can drop down from there, and if you keep on exploring you'll find the knight and the lift back up. At this stage, I imagine you might just one-shot him.

Not true. You can still get there from the

Yes to huge jar. No to coliseum (that I know of, anyway - there's a similar one in Limgrave that seems inaccessible; I get the impression they were going to be used, or might be used in the future, as a PvP arena of some sort).

Got the platinum yesterday, lvl 150 and about 150 hours on the clock

phew, what a scorcher!  Really enjoyed it.  I definitely see the criticism that there’s too much of it, and I felt it dragged a little to the conclusion.  Equally, it feels a bit churlish to say there’s too much content.   Despite my getting the platinum there’s loads I missed, and such a lot of replayability available from different builds

My final ten hours were spent equipped with max Rivers of Blood + Milenia swords, plus Mimic or jolly co-operation, and pretty much breezed through end-game content.  Tried a few solo but naah, life’s too short.  Hats off to anyone with the skills (and perseverance) to learn the bosses that can near-instakill you :)

thanks to everyone in the thread for sharing thoughts and experiences, it has been a fab supplement so I can enjoy the game even when not playing it!! 💕
