Well that's 175 hours of my life that I won't get back 😛

What a fucking game!

Servers went down literally seconds after I beat EB and I got kicked out the game lol

But...

Spoiler

Kneel before your Elden Lord 😎

For the ending...

Spoiler

I was invested in the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending so I went with that.

I did save scum to then get the "generic" ending and then the battery on my controller died lol

I'll reload tomorrow to see the other ones

Stats for the interested

Also my first ever Platinum Trophy 😎

For context, the only other games I've completed to 100% are DS1 & DS3 on PC

I'm going to need some time to digest this. I've put a couple of hundred hours into the other games in the series (each) but that was through multiple playthroughs, not 175 hours in one go. I've still missed stuff e.g. I haven't done a single Heroes Grave and there's an Isolated Tower that I haven't been to so I have questions lol

NG+? Dunno, will sleep on it

Is it a bug? not really, as it makes sense that your line of sight being broken would result in the target lock disengaging. It also does this after back-stabs and viceral attacks and what not.

Whilst I am broadly in agreement that the lock-on is situational and part of the game is learning when not to use it, what would be the argument for disengaging after a back-stab or visceral attack?

Also, having right-click re-center the camera when lock-on is not possible is an utterly baffling design decision. Why Fromsoft why?

On a different note, perhaps this lock-on discussion should be split into its own thread?

In actual game news, I finally beat the Siofra boss (well, I died immediately afterwards but it counted so I'm calling that a victory), cleared out the next area apart from the boss.

Attempted to cheese it with arrows, got it down to about 10% health before running out of ammo and buggered up the finish. Ugh. What a waste of time (and arrows).

And done.

In typical From fashion, the final boss was way easier than some of the optional bosses - looking at you, Malenia.

Was that the case for the first Dark Souls? Gwyn was no pushover, albeit not the massive spike represented by Snorlax and Pikachu, but if you're including the DLC then yeah, Artorius and Manus were much harder to deal with than Gwyn.

Gwyn, Neshandra, Soul of Cinder and (apparently, I’m not there yet) Moon Presence are all known to be far easier than what came before.

I am just poking holes in the game that I can remember reasonably clearly, but the premise was that all of the final bosses are far easier than the optional bosses and if we're talking about the base game, I remain unconvinced. The Stray Demon maybe?

Suppose it depends, your mileage may vary and so on, but typically people find the last boss of a base souls game (not dlc bosses) to be relatively easy compared to the difficulty in reaching them and some of the bosses that preceded them. Based on having completed a lot of them recently, I’d be inclined to agree the that consensus.

Sometimes this feels like two different teams working on the game - the one that wants to extend an olive branch to you in the shape of a Statue of Marika for boss restarts, the other is the fuck-you old school DS crew - the ones that do bosses like

Spoiler

Dragonlord Placidusax

and the tedious 2 minute re-tread back to where you died.

Senior Level Designer. Been working at From for 20 years.  Too much clout for anyone to redo his work or tell him what to do.  Too long in the tooth to get with the new way of doing things.  Thankfully they only gave him a few areas to design, and only a couple of boss runs.

The Valiant Gargoyles are really good fun aren’t they? Particularly like the bit where they randomly spit poison at you because fighting two of the cunts at the same time is just not fun enough on it’s own.

they are absolute wankers

Indeed.

After 80 hours, they are my first Seinfeld.gif, fuck this, fight. Just can’t even do one of the fuckers with my spirit in tow.

Waited around for a co-op sign for a bit and managed to drag in some crazy powerful mage dude and we just just about did one of them but then he just got one-shot into oblivion.

Gonna give up for now and come back much later I think.

I persevered cos I’m stubborn like that and gave them a walloping with my big mallet but for a long while I just couldn’t visualise beating them at all. Just thought, nope, I’m not gonna be able to get past these guys 🤷🏻‍♂️
