To follow up on @df0’s confession - I’m pretty sure I haven’t dropped a point into the FP stat (Mind?) I’ve been attempting this final boss gauntlet and trying out some of these weapon skills but juggling my flasks to compensate for how much of my FP bar gets used. And I have a feeling that certain Ashes are outright unavailable because my maximum FP is less than the requirement to summon.

So when I next start the game I’ll respec: probably take some points out of Vig/End/Str (all around 60 right now?) and see what I can do.

Okay so I just had what's probably my best attempt at EB yet. Went in with 11 Crimson Flasks and one Cerulean Flask, got me and the Mimic+10 to pelt RotGO with the Watchdog's Staff projectiles and made it to EB with 7 Crimson flasks left and a nearly-full FP bar. So I went in swinging, and before my Mimic died EB must have been at 20% health. Tried to get a few clean swings in but also fluffed a bunch of my rolls. I must have died when it was about 15ish% health?

It feels less impossible now!

I guess i owe Patches an apology - i've been thinking it was him all along.

I also thought this and would have never even noticed or guessed if people on the forum hadn't hinted at it a while ago. I guess he's an alright guy after all :hat:

Later quest Patches spoilers:

Spoiler

I also think it's a brilliant joke that you can summon Patches for Radhan, but after about 10 seconds he just buggers off again. Cheers, Patches!

Hit seventy-three hours last night and I think I've rinsed enough to go into the Academy tonight. There are just so many structures in The Lakes that I can't seem to reach at the moment, so I guess this is where I have to go next.

I thought there was going to be more to Volcano Manor

Spoiler

I took a trip earlier via one of those enemies and assumed it was going to be a dungeon I had only seen a small part of once I had escaped. But it seems like the manor itself is just a few rooms. I've joined them so I can get some more side quests since I've read it doesn't make any difference to the story but is there no more to it than that? The journey to it was so long I assumed the manor itself would be more substantial. Or maybe I just have to think of it as the mountain itself being the dungeon in a sense

make sure to talk to everyone. Maybe rest at the bonfire and talk to everyone again. Read the floor messages

Actually got MBoM down to about half health first time before getting murdered repeatedly. Definitely easier with a mimic than summoning in randoms and praying for competence.

You red frog alien blood sex magic FUCKS. I won't forget this.

I've finally killed my nemesis guarding the Capital, die, you bastard!

I did a wee re-spec and as suggested put a few more points in Dex (now 39) which upped my damage a little, and crucially a few extra Vit points (now 20), which made all the difference because I wasn't getting one-shotted by every attack (though most of the hammer attacks did still one-shot me). It has still been a gruelling and tough fight though that took a few more hours to beat since the re-spec, but finally the way is open!

Here's the vid:

Spoiler

Also the video below was very unfortunate and had me with my head in my hands - I was sure my last hit would kill him so I hadn't mentally prepared for the alternative

Final boss progress:

Spoiler

GOD SLAIN.

Hands are shaking. Went with pretty much the same tactic as before, just faster. Tried to get as much damage done whilst my buddy was still alive, as risky as that is.

Also I found out you can actually crumple EB! I was doing lots of heavy attacks and jumping attacks with the WS and the mimic was getting in hits too, so I shouldn't be surprised, but I thought it would have infinite crumple protection or something.

Level 150; 197hrs. 50 Vig/40 Mnd/50 End/50 Str/14 Dex/9 Int/9 Fai/7 Arc. I'll see if I can get a video online later.

E: shonky low quality clip here :P

For lunch today, instead of continuing with any one of half a dozen locations I have things going on at, I thought I'd take it easy by making one of my occasional runs checking in on random NPC locations to see if anyone has anything new to say, anyone new has arrived, or if anyone is now mysteriously dead.

Spoilered as, despite not being explicit, I do hint at your Manor pondering as that is where I went today:

Spoiler

I started with Volcano Manor as that has three or four NPC's and that then took up the rest of my lunch hour as, yes, there is a bit more to the Manor than the few locations I also initially assumed was the lot.

As always with these games it can often be rewarding to revisit older locations as I also revisited a random shack to find four dead people and an invader who dropped a nice +8 Halberd. Totally unexpected and a nice bonus for the chilled non aggro session I had time for (the non aggro bit fell apart somewhat in the Manor).

I'm at the final boss but getting more and more resentful and soured over the entire thing, which is a massive shame. I'm tempted to just 'do a Limmy' and summon in a bunch of OP lads in to smash the fuck out of it. Zero sense of achievement but I could move on.

Just do it. It's shit and I'm certain they'll fix it in the next patch.

Both my PC installs have lost Xbox pad rumble, seems to have happened to a few people but no solution found as far as I can figure. Tried several pads, Elite 2, One and Series controllers but no joy. Doing a fresh install on my old 1060 laptop to see if maybe an uninstall will do the trick. Feels weird playing without it.

Still a few unmapped areas, only a few but my god is this big. I'll still be playing at Christmas. Hopefully some nice DLC around then too.

Yeah, my mimic is up to +10. I have Tiche but it needs more FP to summon than I have (possibly respec time). I've just been dual-wielding two fully upgraded katanas (Rivers of Blood and Nagakiba) and I mostly spam the jump attack. I'm wondering how the Fingerprint shield +25 would do against the homing spell nonsense. I only really need to survive it before it stops but I'm not sure a shield would help since it's coming from all directions.

some fancy looking try hard invader popped into my game and killed me horrible sneaky style while I was involved in a big fight. Teabagging me the lot.

I thought I'd invade just to see if I could get him back, and would you have it there he was doing the same shit on some poor unfortunate souls.

Handed him his arse blight town style and saved the other guys. Got 2 bow's from them and off I went back to my world.

Lovely

I think I might become the invader saver.

In case you did not know, final boss is all about Holy Damage so any protection against that (certain talisman) can help.

Getting nervous about all this boss rush talk in the end game.

Is it a situation where once you've started the boss rush you can't go back onto the map to level/farm/cry? Are you locked into the boss rush?

Spoilered in case.

Spoiler

No typical Boss Rush no. It's just less than a handful of bosses in a row without substantial gameplay sections between em. There's Graces though :)

Enjoy the ride. Play how you want and ask in case you are confused.

Yeah, I was kinda kidding. First Souls-like, mind, so I might pop back here, or in the other topic when I'm thoroughly lost.

Expect to die a lot. It's how the can tries to teach you. That guy clad in golden armor riding a horse killing you over and over? Skip it and move on. The game does not tell you "hey, this one is too strong for you now", the game throws you in the deep expecting you to find the ladder out and seek out the proverbial kiddie pool.

Read item descriptions. Play how you like, there's (probably) no proper best build. When it comes to stats, VIG = HP, MND = FP (is the game's name for mana), END = stamina (green bar. All moves require a bit of stamina, if you run out you can't attack/dodge etc). STR = melee power, INT/FTH = magic power, DEX = "rogue" power (?).

edit: not sure if I am correct, but didn't @robdood do a newbie video for Dark Souls 3? Maybe he did one for Elden Ring as well.

Try spamming unsheath against both phases, use that Nagakiba, try using the poise talisman and some heavy armour it will help your mimic, this is how I got through it in the end. You also need to be prepared to tank a lot of damage so try and top up when the EB goes to the far end of the arena as you'll no doubt get hit with something. Good luck.

@Number 28Not sure if you can or want to replace the skills on those weapons, but Bloodhound Step massively upgrades your dodge (in distance and duration). The homing things can be outran, I start running when it's being cast just to make sure I'm not hit. I never know if it's my Mimic or me being targeted so I just leg it.

I did a mini series for Dark Souls 1, which can be found here:

/self plug.

I'd recommend at least the top 10 beginner tips, and the videos on upgrading equipment etc are still relevant, even if Elden Ring works not quite the same.
