I'm hoping that I'll smash through Radahn when I eventually meet him, as I've done the entire Capital first. Left it last night at what is surely an optional boss, given the insanely tense and convoluted route to get to him:

I've levelled up an absolute tonne doing this entire area, so I'm hoping I'm finally ready for Caelid...

You should start Ranni's questline if you haven't already.

He says, "we shall meet again, as many times as it takes" and just respawns the next time I warp in. No ball bearing to be seen. Suspect you have to be further along in the quest line

Oh I don’t know, sorry! By the time I went and killed him to get it, I’d already completed all the associated quests. That’s why I had to kill him - he wouldn’t speak to me so I couldn’t buy it.

what level where you when you go there?

Spoiler

The slitherin guys are really powerful and the horn blowers summon massive ghostly skellingtons that do massive damage

Another little journal update.  Coincidentally all entries this time are about repeating enemies and locations, so that's saved me some work.

I'm actually up to near the end of the Academy now (on 60 hours - pretty slow, right?), but my journal is way behind.

I'm on 63 hrs as of close last night and not even entered the Academy - was given a quest last night, sending me back to Limgrave. I'm just soaking it all in and enjoying the hell out of it.

I could use a hint on where to head next. I have come across a few boss roadblocks but with my underpowered build, its hard to know when I just need to level up weapons/my character or if I'm just somewhere I'm not really ready for yet.

Spoiler

I've just cleared the Prison town at Volcano Manor and roadblocked at the skin noble boss there, I'm not doing enough damage to him. The mobs in the town were manageable though. Likewise I did the whole route up the volcano but had to ride past and skip the star beast boss. Elsewhere I'm not doing enough damage to the Draconic Tree Sentinel guarding the capital entrance. Caelid still seems a bit too high for me with the big mobs there being very scary and having chunky health bars, I've cleared the fire village and pumpkin head dual boss, and done the tunnel leading back to Limgrave but that's about it. I've done the deer boss at Sofria river but yet to explore Ansiel river. Aside from that my only obvious options are the windmill village, a castle that's below the windmill plains in a swamp, and various dungeons/evergaols. Oh, and the portal to the Beastman in the Dragon lands east of Caelid, where the enemy guardiang his building put me off venturing further.

So should I tackle some of these options or just get levelling up and stick with the manor/capital? I have some special weapons at +5 and some normal weapons at +9 to +15. It may be my scaling stats like dex are too low, I think I'm on dex 22 and faith 25, with one of my best weapons being the winged scythe which scales with faith. My damage output is the main issue for the bosses I am stuck on. Cheers!

I think that weapon level is the most important thing in the game above levelling (is that right?) so hitting up as many mines as you can for resources is probably a good idea if you haven't already. Look for the cigarette burns on the map.

I reached the CFA boss;

Spoiler

First phase was pish, but then...oh dear. Is this the same guy from the beast place in Caelid who takes your death root?

The sentinel outside is an absolute bastard too. I can get him 3/4 down then he always pulls some red lightning inescapable AOE bullshit out the bag. When I finally get him he best stay dead, but I'm not convinced he will seeing as even the dragons respawn.

You gotta ride past all that shit, go up a hill, you will find a grace.

@Alan Stock I was having similar problems and definitely getting your weapons upgraded will help. I’ve got a cold uchigatana at like +20 and that, with a decent summons, made pretty short work of the Volcano Manor boss you mentioned. I’ve mainly been upgrading weapons and just putting all my runes in to vigor (+37 at level 78) and it’s really helped me get more space and time to take bosses on.

I've only really put stats into Vig / End / Dex so far.  A couple in Str and on Int to use particular items.  I'm about level 37.

I've noticed I'm getting more and more Summon ashes that need 100 or more FP to cast, but I only have about 70 or so.  Is it worth pumping up Mind a bit now, to get a bit more FP to make use of them?  I've barely used any Ashes of War either, so not really used FP at all yet, but figured it might start to matter more.  Last time I levelled up it seemed one level of Mind was only giving me about 4 or 5 FP, so it would take a lot of levels before I could use one of those new summons.

Are melee / dex builds making much use of FP later on?

I did 99% of the game as an unga bunga strength build with 10 points in mind. It’s enough to summon the mimic.

The best ash in the game (mimic) uses HP instead of FP. But it is fairly late into the game to get it and can be obscure to find so until then you can either level up your current summons that work or plop more into mind. If you picked up some headgear called noble cloak, that gives you 1 Mind state for free and looks cool too.

I'm in a similar boat. My FP is tiny. There are buffs and talismans which raise your stats however if you want to play around with increased FP without committing to putting points into it.

I just had a rummage and by putting on the Blue Hood, Cerulean Amber Medallion, Marika's Scarseal, and nomming a Rune Arc (with Godrick's Great Rune equipped), I was able to increase my FP from 74 to 113. That's with Mind at a base level of 12.

I wonder how many forum folk got swept up in the HYPE for this and then abandoned it, never to return.

I got swept up, have never played any souls games and just bought because of the thread and the cheapish VPN code (£30)

I'm loving it, have played 60+ hours and have been playing it every chance I get.  Can barely keep up with the thread!  Im coming up to considering my first respec as i obviously didn't really have a clue what i was doing. In still using the grafted broadsword and wondering is it time to shake this up as i start the altus plateau.

I ticked over into level 100 last night while exploring the top of Mt Gelmir. I took out the

Spoiler

Fully grown space rock bull thing on Torrent. He hit like a mother-fucker, but thankfully there was lots of room to dodge.

I also Torrented the horrible vomiting worm demon thing beneath the Manor, as well as yet another Ulcerous Tree Spirit, this one by the burnt up Erdtree.

I didn't have very long before bedtime to explore Volcano Manor, but it's all a bit creepy. I decided to join the 'Family' and got given the key, but that wasn't enough to stop me from being invaded by some Inquisitor with a comedy Catherine Wheel weapon on the first floor. A few Golden Ground Pounds did for him.

I've found the secret passage to 'Prison Town', which doesn't sound like an especially desirable holiday destination, so I'll have a poke around there this evening...

80 hours on the clock currently. If I finish this inside 120 hours I'll be surprised.

I'm you, but Strength. Most of my stuff has been dumped into Vig/End/Str, unless there's a weapon that only needs one or two points in something else.

I'm thinking that I can just redistribute my flask charges if I'm in trouble. But yeah, seeing FP requirements above your maximum is pretty funny.

I don’t know how anyone could finish this in less than 200 hours. I’m level 83, with 137 hours on the clock. I haven’t even finished properly exploring Liurnia, Caelid, Altus, or Mt Gelmir. And I dare say there’s still stuff to do in Limgrave!

I feel the same.
I’m at 100 hours, I don’t think I’ve extensively covered the areas you mention and I’ve still got multiple parts of the map to fill in!

Anyone know if the patch fixed the quest involving (NPCs spoiler)

Spoiler

Edgar?  He’s not showing at the Revenger’s Shack after the girl got killed.  And he’s not back at his post at Castle Morne either.

This means I can’t clear the blind girl’s questline either.
