I’m about 50 hours in and currently exploring the Plateau.

I remember hearing early on about some underground place down a long lift but still haven’t discovered anywhere like this.

Could someone give me a hint as to where I should be looking, roughly? I expect it’s in Limgrave or Weeping Peninsula but sure I’ve explored every inch of those places but still not found it.

Yeah, it’s in

Spoiler

Limgrave.

Check around the

Mistwood. There’s a

Go take a look around weeping peninsula, near the erdtree. you can see what you're looking for on the map, you'll kick yourself.

I can't help but notice a lot of "i'm done with it" posts over the past couple of days? Have the semi-casual crowd who helped the game reach 12 million sales (thank you, seriously) reached their breaking point?

I would say stick with it, and use every tool at your disposal to hurt the game that will never stop hurting you. And it only gets worse towards endgame, trust me - theres no respite or easy way to see it through to the credits.

The later enemies hit so much harder than any other Souls game. Thats why 60 Vigor has become a must! And i hate pumping HP for the sake of it, but this game is HUGE and LONG and you have to stay on par with the difficulty curve for each new region.

But like all Souls games, there is no need to grind levels to get "stronger". Bumps in SL will only help in a minor way (like being able to equip a new weapon). The key is tailoring your build to the playstyle you enjoy. All of them are effective!

If you need advice, feel free to message me, and we can look through your gear and stats and see what we can do to optimise it and make light work of problem areas. :sherlock:

No, there are dungeons in which I can oneshot every enemy or group of enemies, and then can’t even see the boss before it oneshots me. What’s the point? It makes some sense in the overworld, but why should I piss through a boring dungeon with a tileset I’ve seen 20 times already to be rewarded with a fight I can’t win which bears no difficulty resemblance to the rest of the dungeon? And then the reward’ll be a spell, talisman, weapon or incantation I can’t use. Rinse repeat. Am I meant to summon? Unable to summon. For days now. Am I meant to summon ashes? Dead before I’ve rung the bell. All I want is an area I can go to and play the game which isn’t far too easy or far too hard (or both).

There are no bosses that will one shot you before you’ve rung your ashes bell unless you’re massively under levelled for them and take too long to do it. Also, if a boss is too hard, go level up some more somewhere else.

To be honest, though, it sounds like this isn’t the game for you.

@UziHave you upgraded your shield at all? I didn't really pay much attention to the guard boost on my shield, but every 3 levels you upgrade it, you get an extra point, and having higher guard boost means expending less stamina when blocking. This will make her Final Fantasy wombo combo much more survivable!

Also, are you still on Moonveil or have you gone over to the SoNaF darkside? I figured out a strat with the latter that trivialises the fight, pretty much... Vid in spoiler if you're interested!

Yep my current boost rating I think is 58 with an upgraded carian knights shield. Still on Moonveil + 10 and not gone over to SoNaF yet. Thank you for the vid, is it still viable post patch?

I've decided to get Mal a break anyway since I still need to do you know what at the forge so haven't gone past that yet as seemed like a point of no return (since you get asked if you are ready or not) ! At this point I feel satisfied moving the game forward!

Also, i didn't know this game was capable of actual turf-wars on a Monster Hunter World type level.

One Wyrm in particular i kited into two of those giant Octopi, and they gave him hell! It was glorious to sit back and watch. I'm talking Named Dragon type HP where you get 3 Hearts as a reward. They fucked him up to about 10% health then i rolled up and claimed the booty.

After seven attempts of them oneshotting me before I could finish ringing my bell (and two where the summon icon didn’t appear onscreen, for no reason, no I hadn’t used finger remedy) they decided not to attack me and I made quick work of them. Shrug. There was a checkpoint right outside luckily.

I gave in and went to fextralife, and discovered I was supposed to go to a building I’d have never found in a million years in the opposite direction to where every NPC had been telling me to go for the last ten hours. There I pressed R1 on a dragon’s tail 50,000 times and got 50,000 souls. Then I walked into a room and got grabbed through a wall by a small flying harpy which oneshot me. Then I found two huge upgrades right next to each other behind a rat. I finally got the other half of a medallion which allowed me to use a lift to get to somewhere I’ve already been. And I still can’t summon outside Radahn. 😂

I’m now running moonveil which is exactly the same moveset as my starting Uchigatana, but now I can equip ten or so devastating spells while using the same armour as before. Again, melee gets pretty short shrift in this even compared to Sekiro. Perhaps pure melee builds should be able to cycle through arts or gain new combos.

Yeah I’m feeling this.  I don’t know where I saw it but it was recommended to do leyndell before Caelid.  Today I think I’m ducking out of the capital to do some more caelid tickling and some more npc stuff

So I'm not done with it and I have played a lot of Souls. It's just - last week it felt absolutely essential and this week the shine is off a bit. I really don't need another tree demon spamming magic at me except in a constrained environment without a stake or grace nearby and I seriously can't be fucked with a Crucible Knight wandering about as a normal enemy or Jesus another fucking chariot. New areas are open and while there's great stuff - Windmills! - there's also a bunch of things that are a bit too copy and paste to what went before. Some visual variation in indoor areas would probably help. I can see why there isn't - the game is already impossibly massive.

70ish hours is probably about my first DS run. I haven't played a game that long since BOTW and have two games worth already. DS would have used some of the ideas here once though, while Elden Ring is running variations of them because it needs to fill an open world. I understand why and it works to a point. but I think it does become overstretched, particularly once you start hitting duplicate and doubled up bosses.

When I finished DS1 I immediately bombed in and did it again with a different build. Zero chance of me doing that here - it's too exhausting. Leaning towards DS1 remaining the best one due to tighter design.

You have to treat summoning like a heal - earn the opportunity or expect to get punished! Just dodge a couple of attacks if the boss won't let you do it when you walk through the fog.

Yep, the SoNaF run was one post-nerf, so it's def viable.

I did it the first time with the Moonveil, I've got a vid of that here:

Spoiler

It was pre-patch, so the Mimic was putting in work, but I think it's probably still viable now as it relies on just getting hits in to keep interrupting her moves and shooting off a quick beam when she runs away to keep her staggered. Good luck when you get back to it!

I just want to say while I'm thinking about it - I can't believe they reduce the cost of upgrade stones so much, they're stupid cheap now!!

Interesting. Clearly a From ploy to get me to update.

Hmmm. Cheap upgrades vs. un-nerfed Hoarfrost...
