@robdood, or anyone else who knows: is the below correct?

Strike damage, from clubs, hammers, maces and the like, is good against hardened enemies, like the miners in the caves and anything...rocky looking.

Pierce damage, from thrusting swords and certain spears, is good against armoured enemies, like the various knights you find more or less everywhere.

Slash damage, from daggers and other bladed weapons, is good against more fleshy sorts of enemies?

I might go back to just using my longsword and then whipping out the morning star to kill miners whenever I go spelunking for stones. Most of the piercing weapons I've found seem to require high Dex, which I don't have.

Some have optional secret bosses though. I dunno, I'm not sure I'd want any more clutter on the map and it's easy enough to type "Murkwater Cave - Clear" on the notes app of a phone.

It is for some people :)

I should have started putting skulls where i nope out of a boss but i struggle with doing it consistently.

i guess the best thing for me to do is if i think i should have something now in the shop but i don’t, find or what gives you that to purchase in the shop.

Couldn't be arsed typing, so googled:

I'll put it in tags.  Generally I don't 'remember' this information across the board, if you can't tell when facing a new enemy, hit it and watch the numbers! :)

They’ve always done that except when they haven’t - BB and Sekiro. And I’d have preferred something that felt new and interesting here.

One of the things I like most about Sekiro is how unmagical it all starts off. Apart from you being able to revive, there’s not much fantasy or magical stuff and then it goes off in a very different direction to their other games.

Do you think? I don't see much difference between all of them, beyond themes and combat focus. I didn't really think BB or Sekiro felt particularly new, one dropped shields and focused on dodging and the other dropped summoning and focused on parrying. Everything else is iterative. Elden Ring is a grab bag of everything they've done before with the focus on exploration. Many of the best items in the game can be found by simply exploring. Which is great, but also leaves the game victim to "GET THESE TEN ITEMS IN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES" style videos. I've preferred to explore this one myself rather than have it be a collaborative process unlike the others.

I'm actually gutted they returned to stamina-blocking system for this game, I was really hoping they'd have kept Sekiro's posture but have it done with shields as well as swords etc.  Could've been really interesting.

Useful, but lacking cold damage, although you can usually suss it out.

I don't think cold is different to magic in that sense.  It builds up frostbite as well, though, which is a bit like bleed/posion, ie an effect you can trigger.

I see DS3 got FPS boost on Series x. Do you think I will get on ok with it since I beat Elden Ring?

Given this game has almost driven you to the point of mental breakdown, I'd say leave it a while.

You madman.

🤣

Just a couple sections.

Did some research and it seems all the trilogy are 60fps. Too many games to play right now and maybe it's smart to have a wee break.

Yep - in RPGisms it's a "status ailment". Probably only available as a special property on particular weapons, or in ashes.

just start as the knight in that! and, you can literally finish the game with the knights starting gear! But a bigger sword is more fun

Did your opinion change after playing the DLC? I've read it's easily the best part of the game but I've never got round to it. One day.

I also need to get into Nioh 2 again, a game I've played for about 80 hours and barely feel I've scratched the surface of. We're so fucking spoilt.

Yeah its the best DLC I've played for a game. Love DkS's but this was so, so good. My claim is based on the original 2, though, nor Scholar, which kinda ruined it for me.

But it does have the posture system, everyone has a hidden stagger bar which fills up through repeated hits until they're staggered and you can crit them. Jumping attacks, special attacks and guard counters do more stagger damage which makes mindless R1 bashing less appealling.

For the player it's not posture though.  I'm talking about having my OWN posture bar, that decreases at different rates depending on how well I block.

You could make it work in a really interesting way!  It makes defense so much more interesting.

Is there any way aside from the poisoning cheese thing of getting rid of this Sentinel chappy stopping me getting in the city?

He’s impossible

EDIT. I thought this hoarfrost thing was supposed to be amazing, even after the patch. Seems bloody useless against this guy, even though it’s supposedly a weakness.

No, hes right, you've given no indication of what the spoiler is, and then just given the end of his quest away!?! wtf?

you put a spoiler inside the spoiler indicating you are talking about the end of his quest, then people can judge whether they want to open it.

One of the worst enemies up to that point. Total prick. I cheesed him with the poison mist and didn't feel bad about it considering he can one shot you with unavoidable attacks. Will the poison mist not work with your stats? It's a boring but effective way of killing him.

I found him easier dismounted, rolling into his swings to trey to get around his rear/shield side for a quick hit before backing off from his counter bash. Fireballs you call sideroll, never did figure out any tells on the lightning strikes - fairly sure you just have to time it, no visual cues I noticed. That was the only bit that felt cheap to me, I feel like the lightning needs to give you, say, a building glow on the ground before it hits, like the yellow stuff does out in the field.
