What was your approach? Did you melee him? I've seen some solo no hit fights on youtube but that must have taken hours and hours of practice.

Strategy 1 yesterday was to whack him with my sword. Got him reasonably low and if I persevered might have been alright but the previously mentioned risk of getting hit made it difficult up close.

Strategy 2 was the dragon breath method. I fortunately didn’t have to respec as I had already put some in arcane for a dagger I wanted to try, had found the faith talisman and also had a slack handful of dragon hearts. Kept my distance and got him when I could. My FP meant I could only use the rot once though as then I needed to use a flask.

I was getting absolutely nowhere using my Uchi (like 5 or 6 backstabs on the magic one didn't break her shell). Apparently clubs and hammers and stuff are much better so I'm going back at lunchtime to smash them.

Slash/pierce damage does nothing to rock type enemies. Better off switching to a crappy weapon which deals strike damage.

If you've got magic Night Maiden' Mist shreds them

I’m really enjoying my Glintstone sorcerer summon. He’s really handy, especially if I can keep the focus on me. Few sneaky slaps but mostly dodging, whilst the mob gets fucked with blue twinkles.

I got this guy recently as well and he might be my best summon. He got me through the hell of the manor grounds, and best of all, unlike the other ranged summons I have, he's actually quite tanky. A great summon for clearing out areas slowly.

One thing that really annoys me about ranged summons though is that they don't try to reposition if they aren't hitting the target. And you can't even push them into better spots. Its so frustrating to get up to high ground with a sniper type summon and then watch them stand back a meter from the edge and shoot the ground at top of the cliff instead of moving forward 2 inches to get the angle. Its doubly frustrating because you choose a ranged summon for exactly this type of play and you might as well have taken a tanky melee instead. It wouldn't be so bad if you could just re-summon but you can only summon once per checkpoint.

Anyone else occasionally getting booted to the main menu? I'm trying to work out if it's the game or one of my wires/homeplugs. Cheers

Had this about 3 times last night. Not sure what was going on.

Just finished this! My heart was pounding so much on the last fight when I knew I was going to do it. Took 101 hours, level 145. Got the

Spoiler

Age of the stars

ending. Used sword and board with my trusty Grand Epee thrusting sword and Brass shield for almost the entire game, only whipping out the Grafted Blade Greatsword for the occasional fight. Always used Mimic tear or Ancestral Follower summon. 45 vig, 40 end, 71 str, 28 dex.

Quite simply one of the most incredible games I’ve played in my life. Others in the thread have detailed why this is so god but if anyone is still on the fence due to (like me) not getting on with other souls games, then I would still highly suggest you give this a try. It really clicked for me after only a few hours and only got better from then on.

I've grown tired of boss fights. It's for me where the entire experience falls flat. The same tired old tropes: very aggressive boss, very big boss, two bosses at the same time. Been there done that numerous times by now. For all its faults Dark 2 did something new with for example the poison boss. Or Dark 3 with the plunge attack. Demon's and Dark 3 with the whole Wind Blade Sword thing. I know Radahn has a neat mechanic but I'm not giving that prick any praise.

I love the exploring, the sneaking about, discovering new stuff. That's all fantastic. And then there's the golden fog gate 😒

Hit 100 hours last night, level 51 and only just poking around the Capital. Savouring every single second and loving it.

Hello fellow meanderer. 85 hours here. SL60. Still not into the capital. Spent a couple of unproductive hours last night throwing myself against Draconic Tree Sentinel outside. I assume I have to kill him to get inside. Either way he dies tonight.

Aye there are a few boss fights that I did not enjoy in this. I think sometimes it feels like the bosses were designed for Bloodbornes or Sekiros faster combat.

The thing that got me the most was the re-use to be honest!

Only when starting from having turned it off without shutting the game down properly

This has shifted 12 million copies already. Bonkers numbers.

Great to see such an uncompromising and visionary game hitting COD numbers. Brilliant for the industry.

Flippin ‘eck! Those really are incredible numbers aren’t they.

I get this all the time (as in probably once a day), it can also take a couple of attempts for it to log in.

I am not sure if its a networking problem though as I am also getting a network error pop up on my TV so maybe the home plugs.

Maybe homeplugs is the common theme here?

Then suddenly a message popped up on screen - 'message appraised' - and I got a little heal, then the blood loss procced and did a ton of damage, and he went down.  Magic.

Since entering the rllmuk passwords for multiplayer, whenever I see a rllmuk glowing message I always take the time to positively appraise it in the hope that it helps a fellow adventurer out :)

(not saying it was me that saved you in this situation, but I'd like to think that it was)

I'm the same.  Always give a positive to any rllmuk message, even if it's rubbish.

Another thing I noticed last night.  I saw the message saying that someone had defeated a boss (can't remember the wording), and I had the health up buff applied to me for a while.  Is that a thing?  Someone in the password group beats a boss and everyone else gets a health buff?  It wasn't anywhere that helped me at the time, but that's pretty cool.

So Castle Sol then. Its a bit difficult isnt it? Like the standard enemies are way tougher than anything up till now.

This is where I am. Grinding has got me just about strong enough to handle most of the mobs...the boss on the other hand. I'm going to need some cheese. Right now I've resigned myself to going elsewhere first.
