Yeah PS5's one hour of recorded footage is really nice. Wouldn't mind seeing people's boss fights if they've got them recorded! I like seeing people's different builds and approaches.

I mean I can show you but they’re all pretty much this for the last half of game

Only the Melenia and last boss made me change it up

Haha wtf!

Spoiler

Cast Rune to stand in for bonus damage

Hat makes spells do more damage at higher FP cost

Staff makes spells do more damage at higher FP cost

Mixed Physika - one half boost spells, one eliminates FP costs for 10 seconds

So Rune, flask, FIRE HYPERBEAM

(HYPERBEAM would normally drain fp in a second or so)

Slow bosses like the tree are easy. Anything faster use a tanking Ash and position yourself for when you can have an opening for a good blast

I forgot to summon Nepheli for Godrick and killed him. Have I basically failed a quest line?

As others have said, no, but that reminded me of something I wasnt sure about - were npc questlines in the older FROM games contingent on summons during fights, and if so were they also contingent on having them survive the fight? It's been so long I forget. Pretty sure it isnt the case in ER though, right?

I believe so yeah - this was much more forgiving

So I'm thinking of respeccing, having just killed Rennala and currently a clumpy STR-focused melee type. It's decent, but I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of fun as I repeatedly jump-attack people with a claymore.

I'm a complete newbie to the genre, so you can't really use the word 'build' to describe my current state, since I put points in DEX originally that I now never use.

Question is, who has more fun? A DEXy dual-wielding katana type, a magic-focused spellsword (which would mean I could still use my +13 claymore, maybe), something else? FROM seem to have put tons of effort into the magic side of things, I'm constantly picking up spells and incantations that I can't use - so I'm leaning towards respeccing as a magic user.

Any views on the magic user side of things?

I'm a katana wielding spell throwing idiot. Loving it. You can annihilate some bosses and enemies but can get splatted yourself easily too so a lot of risk/reward and fun.

Lol I stopped using the kame hame haa as it made things a bit too stupid. Focusing on some of the other nuts stuff that mean fights last 20 secs but still not more than a 1 min or two haha

I'm late game now and running around a hidden city in circles for the last 90 mins with no clue what to do next. Ready to just quit playing.

It's the area with the godskin duo. Killed them. No clue what to do now.

Full mage only needs enough STR/DEX to wield your weapon of choice, enough MND to cast and everything else into INT - this is where your damage scales. If you want a hybrid then you probably want to go down the DEX/INT or STR/INT route to cover DEX or STR weapons that also scale with INT.

There are lots of OP sorceries later on with high INT requirements but the starter spells are pretty good and can carry you a long way. Mid-game sorceries are a bit disappointing IMO; you don't get the good stuff until later. Everything comes to those who wait I guess.

I started out as a full on mage glass cannon - enough STR and DEX to wield katanas (Moonveil and Uchigatana are very, very nice) and then pumped all my levels into INT. This worked for a while but eventually I had to put some levels into VIT as I was getting one shotted by pretty much everything. I have ended up as a battlemage I guess. High INT but some points in VIT/END/DEX for melee if I need to.

One other thing of note is that the Mimic Tear Ashes are OP if you are a mage. All the sorceries flying around can melt the bad guys (even some of the bosses) in double quick time.

you get one every time you successfully co-op a boss so it's easy enough to build up a big pile of them helping people out.

Yep, I've got 40 of them now. And the free level ups in every attribute make me hard to kill as well. That plus the talisman that increases attributes by 3 seem to work really well.

The mid game bow spell was great for sniping (damage wise it’s poor, the selling point is range).

Night maidens mist was a good send for Crystaline entities.

Yeah even as a mage my mimic tear seemed very durable while doing decent damage

Edit - Oh yeah and Stars of Ruin for any invaders. It’s bonkers how much love they gave magic in this game and how they fixed even it’s weaker points

From the room with the duo in, if you warp there, go left. You just follow it sort of down and around. Until you end up by the bridge, when on the bridge, thats the way to go!

Genuinely feel at a loose end now this is ‘done’

Have a few minor dungeons to mop up but that’s it.

Then tempted by either NG+ or NG a melee build. But…it’s such a immense undertaking and I’m worried I won’t like it without sense of exploration/discovery.(plus how do you access the inevitable dlc)

Maybe I’ll just horizon…

Yeah, I opted to make a new build rather than continue into NG+ just in case I walked away half way through the next playthrough as I want a character in a position to do the DLC if/when it comes out.

Decided I would start INT/DEX, as it's the part of the game I missed out on playing with this style first time round before respeccing later. It's quite fun starting again from scratch actually, I sprinted through everything in Limgrave before smashing through Stormveil, and then made a beeline for the Moonveil and was laughing my way through Liurnia and Caelid with it. I've just got to the same point I respecced last time - just after Radahn but this time I've decided to go for a Sword of Night and Flame build, which scales equally from INT and FTH. It's a bit weird - not nearly as versatile as the Moonveil's speedy specials, good poise breaking ability, bleed capability and range, but I am having a good time melting things from mid range using the beam attack. I've got talismans lowering FP cost of the sword skills, getting FP back on criticals and increasing magic cast time. The sword has an excellent guard counter that moves your character really far forwards which is excellent for getting critical hits to refill FP on lesser enemies. I take this off for bosses in favour of a +FP talisman. I'm looking forward to trying out some incantations too, now I've got some pretty high FTH numbers!

I'm finding the big sweepy flame skill on the sword a bit rubbish though. When facing a group I tend to get interrupted by range attacks before I can get it off. Guess I need to get bigger armour for better poise!

Yeah CFA (is it FCA?) is an absolutely awful zone. One of their worst. Shame it’s likely the climax of the game for most people

I'm really surprised people aren't enjoying this area, I thought it was one of the best! An incredible amount to explore in all directions, jaw-dropping art and some of the coolest encounters in the game. What didn't you like about it?

I can’t remember if you had to keep summons alive, but certain characters you definitely had to keep alive in combat like Siegward in DS3. I found that quest impossible because I did something in the wrong order and couldn’t get patches to show up or something stupid.

Thanks but it doesn't lead you to a bridge. I will keep running aboot

Lake of Rot

it is literal hell. I hate HATE it here.

It's just stupid. Seems a waste of time. I started out equipping items of armour and talismans to counteract the status effect. Non of them seemed to make much of a difference.

In the end I just brute forced it with health potions and a spell to remove the status effect.

Each time a just explored a different area and when my supplies were down I just warped back to the site of grace.

People who put messages next to the boss door should be shot. I don't mean in front of the boss door with handy information, I mean literally on the boss door where I want to quickly switch to a seal to cast Golden Vow, but instead it switches action.

Twice as many from what I can see.

What weapon is that? I tried melee Moonviel and it obliterated Margot in about 40s - even with me forgetting I didn't have a shield and just taking a few hits straight to the face.

Just the Uchi I started with.

But only if the weapon scales with arcane in the first place? For example, arcane won't help with Moonveil?

Making it into a bleed weapon adds arcane scaling on the bleed buildup.

Yeah even compared to the Demon's remake I'd have to say that the vast majority of people leaving messages are stupid, probably smelly, cunts.
